I am a long time coin collector but have never really been involved with online purchasing or auctions regarding coins. This past year, upon advice from a very large Third Party Grading company chat board with which I am involved, I was told to check out Great Collections (often just simply referred to as GC in the Numismatic industry) for some graded and slabbed coins I was interested in. Well, I cannot tell you how happy I am that I took the advice of my fellow coin collecting friends. GC has been nothing short of exceptional in every area imaginable regarding online purchasing, auctioning and bidding on coins. Ian Russel, the owner, has reached out to me several times in the past to check on me and to offer any help that I may need. I have fortunately won several auctions from GC and I could not be more pleased with my coins I received. Their packaging is first class and their shipping is very fast. Very professional company. I've done business with many auction houses as well as ebay. Great Collections is a great way to buy or sell your coins. The most important aspect of GC to me is the incredible service. I am so tired of modern businesses providing horrible service. It's almost expected today. For example, try and pay for a coin with a credit card at Heritage. It's absolutely ridiculous to me that Heritage doesn't accept credit cards, also irritating is the misleading verbiage regarding making offers to buyers of previous sales. I've fallen into that trap a few times. Plain deception in my opinion. In my last experience selling with Great Collections I mailed my coins to GC but received no confirmation that the coins were received. I emailed the company and was amazed to get a return email on a Saturday from the president of the company Ian. He assured me that the coins did arrive safely and that I had mistakenly turned off the email communication tab on my account. He turned it back on and all was well. Can you imagine Heritage sending an email on the weekend? Good luck. Service is king for me, even if it costs a bit more. My coins sold for an above average price and were marketed well on the GC website. The check for the proceeds was mailed in a timely manner. Don't hesitate to use Great Collections, a great company in my opinion.

I spoke with a few different people in multiple positions at this place. After being put on a desk for 2 weeks as a side note. I asked for my whole lot back as I was told Not to expect what the guidance was telling in the guide. Sent 16 PCGS Plastic boxes worth graded 320 PCGS graded coins. Got back my 320 coins after waiting and finally speaking with someone in Red Card board boxes wrapped in bubble at least. Was So disappointed in this Whole situation. Was told 1 thing by 1 person and a complete different thing from another. And felt As if I was taken advantage. Will never recommend them even quit buying graded coins cause was told value is not what I am being told. Then where do we get guidances of Value? Sad Mad and Dissatisfied!

Wow did I take a swing at the Great Collections sales pitch when I consigned a coin.
Best estimate was it would go for mid 5 figures. Thought I was going knock it out of the park, maybe a grand slam at best, a solo homer at least. Instead a drag bunt.
Unfortunately went for 25 percent less than the rosiest estimate proffered by GC.
Wish GC would update their photo process like other big auctions houses and long time dealers. Photo GC used did no favors for the actual coin, which looked way better in hand than the image GC posted. Oh well.

One of the best coin auction houses! Always a wide selection of coins each week. Find a rare coin or one not so rare. Prices are fair for both buyer and sellor. Shipping is always fast and with echeck you can cut the commission to 10%. Good service and a great selection of coins each and every week. The only place for a serious collector.

I just had my first experience with Great Collections and have to say I am more than delighted with their service and knowledge of rare coins.

I only recently became really aware of GreatCollections (even though I have seen them advertised in Coin World for many years) when I decided to sell my collection of Spanish Colonial Gold and Silver coins. I was offered less than $7,000 by the very few dealers who wanted to buy them (even though there was a high-grade type set of 8 Escudos gold doubloons).
What did I end up with through GreatCollections: $13,581.40.
That is a bit of a difference!
I then decided to check into what was being offered and I have successfully bid of several amazing coins.
One (pictured) was an 1895 $20 gold piece graded by PCGS in an Old Green Holder (OGH) with a Gold CAC sticker (indicating the grade on the original PCGS label was lower than what it should have been). This coin was clearly way above MS60 and looked like Proof-Like surfaces. We'll see what it comes back as when I have it re-graded.
Suggestion: I have seen some negative reviews and I can only say if you are new to coin collecting (I have been doing it for 54 years) and think you can make a lot of money quickly buying and trading, you are probably rather naive. You need to buy quality and think long-term.
GreatCollections does not charge commissions on coins sold for over $1,000 (which saved me a fortune), and their commission for lower cost coins is incredibly reasonable. I especially like the almost instantaneous emails indicating whether you are the high bidder at the moment, or if someone has outbid you, so that you can jump back in and raise your bid.
How much do I like Great Collections? I have spent over $28,600 in just the first month of bidding and I will continue bidding until I complete my goal of having a rather amazing US and Mexico gold collection.
Is there transparency? Absolutely.
I have found Ian and Raeleen to be completely honorable business people and I will continue to go back to GreatCollections rather than the other auction houses I have dealt with in the past who were less than forthcoming.

Ian who is a honest, kind intelligent business owner. I had the good experience with him. I sold my American eagle coins to him many times for the last 10 years. Ian gave me the fair price. I am very happy with his service.
But his clerk needs to improved the customer services skills better. The customer service is horrible

I have been dealing with Ian @ Great Collections for several years. I must say that they are great to deal with and their staff has always treated me with the utmost courtesy. I think his business model works well and I prefer to consign my items to him as opposed to the competition. Turnaround on settlements is quick and their website gets a lot of attention, which results in very active bidding. Top notch people and top notch service!
