H Lorist WatchMakers reviews
8 I have a Linden wall clock that needed repair. I was told by the owner to bring the clock to him, 5 weeks later I was told it was ready. I went to pick it up and was told all it needed was cleaning and no new parts. It was $345.00, it seemed high. Competitors charge 1/3 of that. I asked did you replace anything? No he said. He lost the original back on the clock. He then tried to blame me for it. He put a piece of cardboard on the back. I ask. Him, " how Much is the clock worth? " He says $900.00. Found out the clock is worth $350.00. Not good person, zero character Crook
.
Went in the A. M.to have my Hamilton repaired. He quickly diagnosed the issue and had my watch repaired and in working condition just a few hours later. Reasonable price, fast, and knowledgable.
I went in asking for a value of watch. He asked if it's battery operated or self winding. I said I didn't know. He proceeded to open the back of the watch and said "oh it runs on battery". He said "that'll be $10". I said "what? You didn't tell me it's going to cost $10! ". He said "you think the labor is free? ". I said "I didn't ask you to do that". He said "$10 regardless, you want the battery or not? ". I was in disbelief. I said "if you're going to charge me $10 for nothing, put the battery in". We had been there many times before but I will never go back there again. I should have gone to the police.
This is a fourth generation watchmaker and repair shop. From the minute you walk in the door you know that you are at a true artisan's workshop. It takes an hour and a half to get there from my place, but if I ever need a watch or clock repaired, I'll drive the distance.
Hank is truly a craftsman he loves what he does and it shows in his excellent workmanship. I drive 25 miles, one way, just to get him to put batteries in my watches.
PS. Definitely not a ‘crotchety old man’ he is absolutely delightful with tons of wonderful stories!
Doesn't get any better than this. Best ever for your clock and watch needs. 1st class
What more can a guy ask for? I walked into Hank's shop and was greeted with a hearty hello and introduction. This shop is as legit as can be. Hank is a 3rd generation watch and clock guy and his 19 year old grandson works side by side with him while Sinatra is playing in the background. I brought my Dad's old chronograph watch in for a new battery and once over and my 1980 Citizen Automatic Dive Watch in for a complete overhaul. The job was done perfectly and when I came to pick up and pay, Hank and I shared some great stories and lots of laughs. He's a straight shooter and calls it like he sees it. I miss that type of character in men today. If you're a snowflake, this might not be your shop. But if you're cut from the stuff people who built our awesome country from, this IS your shop and Hank IS your guy! A+
Wonderful experience! Thanks to Wendi F’s review saved me going anywhere else. There are some other reviews out there that we total disagree with about the owner. He was nothing but great with us! My 95 + Mom’s decades old Mickey Mouse watch needed repair. He got her watch up and running – complete with painting Mickey’s hands red to improve her ability to see the time. We took her down to pick it up.and he had her in tears as he put it on her wrist, and she saw it was repaired. Followed up with bring an antique wall clock that had been damaged in shipping. Back to working order and cleaned up.
Highly recommend – worth the drive to Jackson from El Dorado.
