H Salt Fish & Chips reviews
17 So happy to find an H SALT place bc I grew up eating them since I was a kid.
-excellent and fast service
-fresh tasting fish, patters and onion rings
-good portion
-huge fresh piece of fish
-clean restaurant
-plenty of parking
Had he given out some decent malt vinegar packets it would have been good but no he gave some watered down vinegar not good rice vinegar. You have to buy a bottle for 5.99, their prices are good though and some like their food I'm not sure I'd go twice though.
Kinda slow on service and atmosphere but the fish and chips make up for it. Only thing missing is the newspaper wrapping it. Oldies will understand that reference
Their fish is the bomb omg you have to try it you will love it and their onion rings are the best out of every where.
Given where this place it's located, one would never guess their fish and chips are some of the best and tastiest to eat. The service was good, the portion size, just right and the taste.very delicious. Would definitely recommend finding this hidden gem in downtown Sacramento
Food was pretty good. Not crowded. Two people diner w/ sides under $45. Clean & quite + well lite.
I'd like my fish fried alil bit harder, but all in all, it was quite decent.
I will be back.
This is a blast from the past. I haven't been to an H. Salt in decades! Like most of Sacramento, this building is historic and preserved in its authentic original state. The whole experience was retro and brought back many memories of days long past. The food was excellent and the prices were GREAT! Got enough food to easily feed 3 or 4 people for about 25 bucks. Can't beat that.
The man who took our order was very hard of hearing and got our order wrong, and then he almost gave me the wrong soda.
Fish and chips was hot and tasted great. Onion rings have a tempura batter which makes them crisp and light. Very tasty. Prices were very reasonable for portions and quality. The dine in space is small but clean. Service was precise and the couple that work there were very friendly and kind. It's worth the trip if you are looking for tasty fish and chips.
The fish was plentiful and tasty, but the clams were sparse. Although the food tasted good, it took a while (24 mins) to get my order after placing it. With a fifteen minute walk each way, that was my lunch hour (although I was able to eat it back at my desk). My recommendation is to add MORE clams to the orders.what I got should be considered a half-order of clams at best.
The owner Frank and his wife are outstanding a great service very friendly excellent food reasonable price
Good spot for some fish and chips… would love some homemade tarter sauce or something but yeah pretty good for what it is
My favorite fish spot I always go with my boyfriend to get the catch of a day, can of soda and a beer. Very friendly, family owned with best fish in town!
My mom used to eat at H Salt Esq. Fish and Chips in San Francisco when I was a child. I told her that I tried this one in Sacramento while I was waiting to get my windshield repaired from a rock that popped up from a truck hit my windshield and caused it to crack. I walked around the area of the glass shop and saw H. Salt Esq. I tried their Prawns, Onion Rings, Hush Puppies, Fish and French Fries. Food is great. Wouldn't have minded adding a little something to lighten up the taste test like a little coleslaw or something bright.but, the food is good. Mom has stories to tell about eating their food whenever I mention this place.
H. Salt Esq is one of those last remaining remnants of my childhood that could very well be here today and gone tomorrow. It is for that reason I try to go here when I can, despite not being a huge fan of fried foods in my older age. The decor is dated and from a bygone era, heck, they even have a 13inch tube TV attached to the wall, but that is part of the charm. The taste of the food also gives you an insight of a far gone time. It remains pretty much as it used to be from what I remember from the late 1970s and 1980s. How many times have you eaten a food from your youth only to discover it has been tweaked for the worse due to modern times? How disappointing is that? I ordered the seafood combo which comes with a large piece of fish, 2 large shrimps, clam pieces, scallops, French fries, and onion rings. ($13.99) Each type of seafood has its own specific batter. Everything is made to order to you need to expect to wait about 10-15 minutes for your food. Did I mind? No way, there is something refreshing to have your fast food made to order which makes it worthwhile. Too many fast food places now seem to prioritize speed over the actual quality of the food. This outlet is one of the few remaining H. Salt Esq outlets and is run by a super sweet hard working elderly Asian couple. Don't make yourself regret not having a trip down memory lane by waiting too long before this one closes and becomes a mega Apartment complex.
