Hakka Restaurant reviews
18Great Hakka food although some more tune consuming dishes need to be pre ordered. The stuffed chicken and the soup.
Every time we come to San Francisco we make sure we eat there. Easy location and can go down to the beach to eat, Food is away freshly cook.
The food is delicious, we like it very much and highly recommend tasting it. We will come again.
I ordered 3 items and waited over and hour to find out that they were not taking door dash orders so i never got any food.very disappointing
We order via Ubereat this time, so we don't know if the ambiance changed. The past few times we went in person, the staff are nice and the restaurant is fairly clean.
-House Special Pan Fried Tofu: 5/5
this is our go to order, the tofu is soft and taste delicious with the shrimp paste and house sauce
-Mongolian Beef: 2/5
this is the first time trying this, the sauce is sweet and doesn't really match with the beef.
-Clams Spicy Salt and Black Bean Sauce: 5/5
Another one of our go to orders. The meat and black bean (it's not a sauce, it's more like black bean and chili fried with meat) is a perfect match with rice and we always eat an extra bowl!
House Special Pan Fried Tofu, Mongolian Beef and Clams with Spicy Salt and Black Bean Sauce.

Truly a hidden gem. Tucked away in a typical Richmond neighborhood is this word-of-mouth Chinese restaurant in SF. With its old-school florescent yellow and red sign and photos of "point-to" dishes plastered all over the walls is an amazing little place called Hakka.
It was my first time here, and every dish was a winner - I would order each one again without question.
Did the inflation cloud completely miss this place? How does a party of 6 order multiple quality dishes and all walk away satisfied for under 200 bucks?
Tip: Order the stuffed chicken first when you walk in the door, then view the menu because the chicken can take up to 30 min to prepare.
I had never had Hakka food before, but this meal seems to have been a good representation. I will repeat.

No frills typical Cantonese food, although technically this is supposed to be from the Hakka region.
It helps to speak some Cantonese so you can communicate and get better service. The menu has lots of pictures.
$18.95 Frog Fried with Salted Yolk
$14.95 Pan Fried Seafood Noodle
$14.95 Spicy Salt Pepper Spare Ribs
$15.95 Seafood Tofu in Clay Pot
Total price $70.60
Honestly the food was mediocre and maybe this is what burger and fries would be for some people who just want their creature comforts. I would skip the claypot and panfried noodles. I've definitely had much better elsewhere. The best dish was spicy salt pepper spareribs. Salted yolk was tasty but oiler than other places. I won't be coming back.

Delicious early dinner tonite! Everything was fresh. Had the tofu, sticky rice with Chinese sausage wrapped in lotus leaves, fried pork and string beans, gai lan (Chinese broccoli), bitter melon and catfish cooked in black bean sauce. One of our favorite restaurants to hangout for dinner.

Staff was a little put out because we arrived after lunch time and the whole establishment was eating their meal communally. Other then that delicious, large portions and good prices!
My mom really loves this restaurant so she'll try to book it for us to have family dinners. They have great pork belly and the waiters are alarmingly friendly for it being a Chinese restaurant. All of their food is really good! They have pictures to help you pick if you have a hard time choosing since their menu is extensive. We always get the salted egg yolk fried pumpkin and my cousin loves it.
Parking in the area can be tough but doable! Try to make a reservation if you're coming with a big party.
Street parking. Wheelchair accessible. Plenty of tables but close seating. Vegetarian options.
It used to be a great restaurant 2 years ago. My most recent visit was terrible. 3 dishes for 2 people came out at $105, and it was not helpful at all when the receipt didn’t list out the items’ price. Not to mention portion size went down by 1/3 compared to a few years ago. Inflation is one thing but i felt ripped off, not to mention how servers pestered me for a higher tip.
Great Chinese food with a large menu. There is always something new to try. Most of their dishes are good but my favorites are their eggplant, chow fun and their fried rice.
I wanted an authentic restaurant and I got exactly what I wanted. I knew I'd like certain food (like generals chicken) from this place so instead I got some food outside my comfort zone and it was delicious. I couldn't pronounce what I ordered but it was a claypot (never had one before) and the food was savory and tender. Upon entering they gave my friend and me our own teapot instead of water and it was a great tea. If I lived in the area I would definitely go back to try more foods. I highly recommend this place.
If you haven't tried Hakka cuisine, it's really worth your visit. The dishes are savory and I can understand why the portions has gotten smaller during Covid, but I can't understand the gauging of a plate of sauteed big-bean-sprout at $24! Where other Chinese restaurants recently charged $15-17 a plate when it's listed as a seasonal dish. Even upon our inquiry, the woman owner maintains that $24 was correct for a dish of vegetable.what a rip off!
They charged me $1 for getting a to go box.plus i just checked the credit card statement and they charged me twice on the bill, i am calling credit card company for this event and will check with the store tomorrow morning
The food was really good. I had the Sticky Rice. The portion is good enough for 3 people. Good staff and not too busy when we were there.
Pork belly (aka Chinese bacon) with mustard greens, tofu house special, sticky rice w shrimp and pork, spare ribs
I thought I had covid after eating here because nothing had any flavor. Turns out it wasn't covid and just bad food.
Panda Express is better is better*shrugs*
Good, filling hot food. Not a fancy place. Ordered sticky rice in lotus wrap, pineapple spareribs, and beef stew over rice. Parking on street. We will return to try other dishes.
A hidden gem! This has become The place that we go to. Everything here tastes great the portions are big. We especially love the Hakka specialties from the first couple of pages of the menu. The people here are so friendly.
