Happy Jack's Pie 'n Burger, Bakersfield CA

Everything in this place is hands down a 5 star. Food, service, definitely recommend you try. Be ready to pay cash only though.

Coffee was okay. The rest was weird to say the least. Two ladies working. One, with darker hair said she was the owner and that she worked there since the opening of the restaurant. She was being constantly VERY rude to the other older lady with lighter hair. The owner did not like anything that the other server lady did, was very vocal about it, letting everyone in the establishment know that the lighter haired lady does not know how to do anything at all. The owner was so ignorant and loud we felt embarrassed for her. Food was very, very average. I will not be coming back.
For those who may doubt my review, please look another person posted very similar observation about an extreme rudeness of the owner just recently.
I also want to add that the owner was rude to me as well. She asked me where I was from. I told her the general area, she insisted to know the city. I again told her the general area, trying to change the subject. The owner response was to tell me (along with everyone else in the establishment, as she was speaking loud) that She, compared to "Others" is very mush proud of where she is from and that I must be embarrassed for where I am from and that's why I am not telling her the name of the city.oh yes, and they also only accept cash. Seems like this place exist in some other dimension where emotional intelligence does not exist and where rudeness and entitlement is served along with your morning coffee.

I finally got to try Happy Jacks and I didn’t realize how tiny the restaurant was and was asked to move out of seats due to customers needing to sit there since we were ordering our food to go. It was uncomfortable for us and probably the people sitting a couple inches in from of us. The burgers were good but I asked for change so I can give a tip the lady just gave me fives so I guess it was a Five dollar tip for two burgers, maybe no ones but since not much customers service was there I just was trying to be nice. But no I wouldn’t eat there again

I wish I could get some Burgers and pie, but this place is always closed. I think it's just a front for the Mob.not an actual restaurant.

I haven't been to Happy Jack's for years, but stopped in today for lunch while we were running around downtown. Looking for a place that was open later and Yelp said it was open until 8 PM. We arrived at the restaurant at 3: 40 PM. We waited for a few minutes before our order was taken because the waitress was busy. We both had burgers and we split a piece of strawberry shortcake which was excellent.
Our waitress was sweet and overworked and very helpful.
The unpleasantries started when the owner came out from the kitchen. She began to berate the waitress for some thing she didn't like. We sat and finished our dessert and chitchatted for a few minutes afterwards. We had no idea that they closed at 4pm. It was about 415 by this time. The owner told us that they were closed 15 minutes ago and that she was having a meeting with her attorney. So we jumped up ready to leave and felt bad that we were taking our time. The Owner then told us that we should never have been served because we came in later than 345, but that the waitress chose to serve us anyway. Again, none of this was communicated to us. But she told us we should've noticed because it was posted on the front door. She was very rude to us and her employee. The waitress was busting her butt trying to keep up and make everyone happy. The owner could've nicely told us that they were closing in a few minutes, but she was so rude in shaming us and her employee. I can't believe a business Owner would treat customers like this. I don't care how good their burgers are. We won't be back.

This is my all time favorite place to get burgers, I usually get a bacon Ortega burger with a side of the country potatoes and a pie to top it off and I've never been disappointed in the 13 years I've been going. Sooooooo good.

Delicious. Best burgers and the Jack's potatoes are great. Homemade pie with flaky crust. Melts in your mouth. But be prepared because they only accept cash in $20 or lower for payment.

Small shop with counter seats only. Coffee not so good. Brekkie was really good. They will cook to your preference. Nice and quiet.

I love this place every one is so happy and helpful and makes you feel like part of the family! Simple and tasty food just remember to bring cash, no cards accepted. Francis and Ruben are so nice!

Good chili size though it was the chili with beans style. The Rudy pie was extremely good, the pb flavor actually stands out. The service was fantastic as it's a very hometown/family vibe from all the servers. The only down side is they only take cash or Venmo (even Venmo they're on the fence about). I understand the costs of using credit cards but it's just a necessity in the modern world now. The ATM I withdrew money from at the local liquor store charged 8$ (it says 2.50 or so but then your bank has its own fees). Not doing that again.

So cute. Old school counter seats/stools. Super nice service. Burger was the best I've had in a long while.

Nice little place for burgers and pies, we were so full from the burger that we cold not try the pie. Jack potatoes not bad but I think a bit over priced.

Please do not eat here. My daughter worked for this couple and witnessed how they wash off the ham and reuse it for meals. Shady in all their tax right offs had my daughter working straight through most of the time with no break. Please don't eat this so called food. You've been warned

My experience in dining is to read the reviews. Every poor review had to do with the owner and her treatment to customers. That the reviews are consistent tells me that it's true and I therefore respectfully decline to try your establishment.and I just read an article on your 60 years in business and was going to be passing through Tweekersfield next week. I'll do what I originally was going to do and blow through the armpit of Kern county. But congrats on your anniversary anyway.

Only reason I gave it a star was so I could write a review. Walked in and was looked at and address as if there was something wrong with me and my husband. Services was ok by the young girl. Walked in 2 mins after breakfast was done serving. So had no choice but to order lunch. More to say but I will leave it at that.never will go back. Nothing to write home about.

A decent burger. Bring your own ketchup, though. Pie was good, but not miraculous, as the reputation of this place suggested. Waitress was friendly & attentive. Owners do A LOT of beneficial things for the community.
