Many higher-quality providers I'd prefer to go to don't accept HPSJ; the providers who DO accept it are the bottom of the barrel. For example, after waiting 13 days for an appointment, my now-former HPSJ primary care physician (not even a physician but physician's assistant) wrote me an incorrect referral THREE TIMES, which caused the *urgent* referral to take nearly THREE WEEKS instead of 1–2 days. Even then, it was still wrong on the third try. How do you repeatedly forget to put the relevant body part or diagnosis code in a referral? Anyway, I filed a state complaint against this plan, which will be heard soon by an administrative law judge. (BTW, the so-called 24/7 nurse line ISN'T answered by a nurse; it's answer by a receptionist who just takes a message and has a nurse call you back SEVERAL HOURS LATER. I'm sure that's exactly what people expect when they see "24/7 nurse line" printed on their insurance card. I hope some class-action law firm sues this health plan for causing untold harm to people who've waited much longer than they should've to talk to a "24/7 nurse. ")

Anyway, I eventually switched from HPSJ to the only alternative available to me: Health Net Community Solutions. Thus far, it's been a better experience, but I won't get my hopes up just yet.

Very hard to find providers who accept this insurance. Medical and dental are affected, hold times to speak to a representative are over 30 minutes. When you do get a representative, it's a waste of time because they can only give you a 'list' of providers they 'claim' to accept hpsj. I've been a member since 07/1/2022 still have not been able to get wellness exam or a PCP to call me back. I've utilized the app with the same results. Not sure why people do not take this insurance here in stockton.

On December 12,2022 my daughter was experiencing ear pain, so I did what I normally do and emailed through the patient portal Dr. Mallorca. I called and left a message after not recieving an email confirmation from the portal and the staff member confimed recipt of the message. After no response from the doctor I called again on 12/12/2022 and was unable to leave a message due to a system issuse with the doctor's telephone system. I waited until lunch time to reach the oncall service and proceeded to leave a message for a call back. The doctor called me back and told me she would send in ear drops to the pharmacy. I called Health Plan of San Joaquin to inquire if it was possible to change the insurance through medi-cal to Kaiser since I am a Kaiser member. The health plan representative asked me why I wanted to change and I explained that I was having a hard time reaching the doctor and that since I was already a Kaiser member it was easier for me to navigate Kaiser with my disability. Unbeknownst to me the representaive filed a complaint with the doctor. I recieved a copy of the complaint and called HPSJ and asked why this was a complaint. They told me it was policy. On 1/3/2023 I recieved a certified letter from Doctor Mallorca stating that she was dismissing my 5 children and knowning full well that I am due 1/23/2023 with another newborn and it is a high risk pregnancy that would require care once delivered. This is borderline patient abandonment and is very unethical for a physican to take such harsh approach to a secretarial inquiry to ones health plan nonetheless very negligible knowing that a newborn would be requiring care because "her feelings got hurt" is what the staff member stated when I called to inquire about the dismissal.

I absolutely hate this insurance. Luckily my husband will have health insurance through his new job in February so our daughter can see a KP pediatrician.
Our daughter originally went to Sutter but since HPSJ did not renew their contract with them we were no longer able to see her wonderful pediatrician. Dr. Daisy Jones was a great doctor and my daughter absolutely loved her! I even had her as my pediatrician growing up so I felt completely comfortable with her care. However because of HPSJ we were assigned to a different clinic, the first one being Eaton Pediatrics. I was not impressed with this office but unfortunately because I could not choose my daughter's doctor we had no choice but to be seen here. This was horrible for us as our daughter has been terrified of men since infancy and the only doctors at this office were men. However she was only able to be seen twice until we got assigned a new pediatrician, Dr. Urbano. I had to send over her entire medical records from Sutter and Eaton to Dr. Urbano's office which was time consuming as I had to sign medial release forms, download the records, and call to have it faxed over. Dr. Urbano also did not respond to my emails through MyChart, which was disappointing and aggravating. Our daughter was only able to see her one time until she got assigned to a NEW clinic again, this time CMC on grant line. I once again have to forward all these documents to this new clinic. It is completely infuriating as a mother that my daughter, who is already terrified of most doctors, now has to be seen by someone else. The pediatrician at CMC is Dr. Abid whom we saw once after Sutter and unfortunately she was not very thorough with our daughter's initial exam. My toddler cannot develop any rapport with her pediatrician because she has consistently been assigned new ones before she can get used to them. If I could give this health insurance negative five stars I would. They are completely inconsiderate at the fact that their inability to retain pediatricians under their plan is hurting children and parents. I am now willingly paying out of pocket for my daughter to see a pediatrician of my choice, regardless of the fact that this would forfeit this garbage insurance. I will be looking into how I can report HPSJ to the ombudsman for this negligence and unprofessionalism. Good riddance.
