HICKORY CLAY reviews
7I love the feel and ambiance of this space. What is really important is the flexibility and access the school offers to the art studios at all hours of the week to practice and work on your projects. I took classes with both Todd and Didem and they are so amazing, patient and thoughtful in their approach to guide you as you work on enhancing your technique.
The studio environment is pretty good. As the new studio, a lot of members are trying to sign up for it. I like most of the things here. But, there are a couple of things that need to have big improvements. (1) for classes, they charge $50 for each section without providing make up classes. If you miss your class, you are still paying $50 for nothing. The owner, Ashley said you can use studio free as a compensation. However, as the new student, if I don’t know how to throw clay and miss the class for that week, what is the point to spend $50 for looking people around in the studio? (2) Ashley’s (owner) attitude. I got a couple of chances to talk her regarding the rules and cans& can’t in the studio. Clearly, she is rude and doesn’t want to deal with people. I mentioned to her certain instructions during new student onboarding is not well explained. Her response was she cannot do anything if people don’t read the instructions well. YOU ARE RIGHT ASHLEY. You may create beautiful clays, but your attitude like this won’t get your business long.
Visited for the Friday Night one-time Try-It pottery wheel class for date night and honestly had a blast. Ashley is a great, clear, and patient teacher, the studio's vibe is very relaxed, and even though most of us hadn't touched clay before it was very easy to get really into it.
They were generous with the clay and my boyfriend and I made a few pieces each. The studio glazes and finishes them for pick up in three weeks. We're excited to see how they turned out. Highly recommended!
I LOVE Hickory and I'm proud to be a member here.
The space is great, the owners Ashley and Daniel are not just amazing potters but kind and patient people who are always ready to help and share their knowledge with a smile on their face.
Thanks so much for Hickory, it’s a gem!
Hickory is an incredible studio. Ashley and Daniel are amazing potters and have built a beautiful, functional space and a great community for anyone interested in pottery. My favorite studio in SF.
Amazing! Both Ashley and Dan (the Co-owners) are extremely kind, considerate and patient. Dan is an extremely talented teacher, explaining concepts and sharing subtle tips to allow a true beginner to create basic bowls in just 30 minutes.
The space is beautiful, spacious and full of sunlight.
Highly recommend!
