Himmel Haus reviews
24 Authentic great tasting German food served by a caring staff in a delightful setting. One of us is of Austrian decent and we have visited the Austrian relatives several times. The husband is well known chef so we know German food.
This is our 5th annual visit to Himmel Haus, we own a week at a time share and that is why our visits are on an annual basis.
Must try the pretzel and sauces, and ask about their hard ciders. They may not give you a kiss menu, but both the cheesy spaetzel and the grilled cheese are lovely.
Wonderful food! If you're looking for good Bavarian fare, look no further. Delicious food. Great beer selection. We sat outside in what I think is a new biergarten. Ausgezeichnet!
Lived in a German immigrant town for 5 years through college. The food here was incredibly bland. Had the schnitzel and the spaetzle and were super excited about both. Way under seasoned. Everyone we talked to raved and rented about how good this place was and it was a huge let down. Besides the fact that the food was bland, the wait staff was pathetic. Went on a Thursday night at 530 and it wasn’t busy at all. Had to beg for attention from our waitress to get refills on drinks. The beer was delicious as well as the Belgian frites.

- Overwhelmingly the people we talked with while in Tahoe recommended your establishment. It has a good following and you should be proud of that. We did not find it delicious and in talking with friends and family, authentic German food is typically quite bland. So you nailed the flavor profile. Just wasn’t what we were expecting and left very disappointed. Beer was good, cheers!
Great German food, perfect for apres-ski. Lots of beer. Good Covid compliance. Love the sprouts, kraut, and currywurst!
Delicious food, delicious beer and great service. They forgot our appetizer and gave it to us on the house for the mistake.
Love the food, they have the best pretzels! Delicious brats, we'll definitely come back whenever we're in town.
HORRENDOUS SERVICE- I was beyond disappointed about this place given numerous recommendations I received from various people. I made a reservation for sunday night at 8: 30 and when we arrived we leaned the kitchen was closing at 9. My group and I tried it put our orders in and learned only after we placed our appetizer and drink orders in that basically their main dishes were sold out and they no longer had chicken schnitzel. Fine tried to make the most of it and placed out of it but when a “gentleman” (very loosely using this to apply to this person since he was far from being one) asked if everything was ok-I informed him that we were disappointed to learn that basically everything wanted to order was out. So he then asks what he can do to make it right and I informed him for starters when taking a reservation at 8: 30 you should advise your guests that the kitchen is closing at 9 and that there would be a potential that things on their menu would not be available especially since it is a pretty small dinner menu offering only 5 entrees. He then again asks how can we make this right so i asked him you tell me what you can do? He then says to us “well if you expect to get your whole dinner for free it’s not happening” I responded “that’s not at all what we expected”. He then says to us “well if there’s nothing we can do then you can just leave. ” We were so taken aback by his sarcastic, rude and caustic demeanor that we chose to leave instead. What is most shocking about this exchange that the “gentleman” we later learned was named Patrick and was allegedly the manager.
The service and food was excellent! Patrick saw to our every need and all the wait staff were kind, caring, and helped ensured we had what we needed.
So many good food choices here!
Was there for a wedding party. The chef was fantastic and accommodated for me and my vegan partner.
Great place! Fantastic food. Was there for a wedding and the chef made me and my partner up some vegan stuff. A+
Terrific hidden find in a "forest" german restaurant. Our hostess server Susan gave the best description of entrees - we had one of each! We love food - good food. Beers, Bleu cheese and apple salad, Roasted Brussel Sprouts, Curry bechamel sauce on Cauliflower, Spatzle, Sausage Platter with variety of cabbages, Pork Shank, Pork Riast, Tender Lamb and strudel with ice cream. Please try this place for yourself. Well worth the drive!
Himmel haus has amazing food, tons of beer options and great staff. My boyfriend and I went in for dinner tonight and had a great time. We ordered the fries and pretzel with the expectation of ordering entrees after but the apps filled us up! They also had an amazing black Forrest cake that was made from scratch. Overall the food is simple but wonderful and we will be back again soon!
Great vibe. The food is excellent and the service leaves you as if you made a best friend. So bring family, friends, and even a date. Will not regret the decision
My wife and I love this place! It is the best german restaurant I have ever been to. If you are in the Lake Tahoe area and looking for a very authentic german restaurant, you can't beat this!
Stopped here on our trip to Tahoe, and the food was great. We had the pretzel and sausage platter, and both were very good. I imagine this would be perfect after skiing or snowboarding, but was still a good summer dinner!
Oh man. Where do I start? The food was great. Pork melted in my mouth. Sausages were phenomenal. Prices are reasonable. Service was pretty good although things got a bit confusing but we were with a big party. Great location away from the crowd. Ample parking. Nice if you are renting a tudor in the local neighborhood or skiing.
Absolute wonderful time had at HH with some very good friends! The service was outstanding, the food authentic, over-the-top delicious and the beer.well the beer put much bigger smiles on everyone! Thank you Matt & David for your generous hospitality and helping make a special celebration even more so! Until next time, the foosball guys:)
This place is literally the most amazing food. Definitely a hidden gem up the mountain and off the beaten path but worth the trip. Plan to stop back home or at your hotel before heading out for the night because the portions are giant. Great service and overall great experience.
Lecker war es. Und das Bier nicht überraschend sehr gut. Food was very good, in a way I sometimes miss in Germany. And the beer was delicious, of course.
