I think we found our new favorite sushi spot. This restaurant doesn't have plenty of seats which I honestly like because it feels more intimate. The service was great. They were very attentive and always asked how were doing.

The food? Incredible. The sashimi plate was so fresh. We also really enjoyed the hamachi kama and their special chawan mushi.

We are definitely going to visit again! I highly recommend this place.

Came here with my wife since the sushi place we usually go to is only taking reservations, and we are glad we stopped in! This place has a pretty small menu, but has amazing specials. We ended up getting the Hamachi Kama and Sashimi Plate and both were delicious. The service is great and we will definitely be back!

The food was delicious and very authentic. Every dish that was ordered had beautiful presentation and the meal quantities were incredibly generous for the price. All this combined with the cozy environment made for a very enjoyable evening.

Went here a couple weeks ago with my fiancé. The owners are incredibly kind & accommodating. There was a bit of a long wait for our food, but the portions were ample, and they were amazingly delicious. I frequent Mikuni, but I thought the quality was better here at Hito Yatai. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and you need a reservation to sit at the bar which I thought was odd. Definitely short staffed, & I kind of thought they forgot about our food at one point but the kindness of the staff and the high quality of the food outweighed the small negative aspects. I think this restaurant will only get better as it grows! Keep it up. Will return!

Fairly new sushi restaurant that recently opened in the Carmichael area. It does have its growing pains long wait times and it will take some time to turn into a beautiful butterfly until they button things up and hopefully improve on their customer service. Otherwise there is potential and the food was pretty tasty. My tip would be to eat a snack prior to coming here and expect the long wait. The wait is worth it for sushi
Will return and hope to give it a fiver ️

While I rarely give one-star reviews, our experience at this restaurant was quite disappointing. Despite the initial excitement from the positive reviews, our visit didn't live up to expectations.

We arrived at 6: 10 pm and were promptly seated. However, what followed was an hour of waiting without any drinks or food. The initial server took our drink orders, and another server came later to take our food order, but it seemed like there was some miscommunication, possibly due to the noise in the restaurant.

As more customers arrived and were served, we noticed that we were being overlooked. Eventually, we saw our order being handed to another table, and when it finally reached us, we suspected it was the same one we saw someone else touch. Waiting for an hour for something we saw someone else receive in a minute was disappointing.

Throughout our wait, it was difficult to get the staff's attention due to a person who seemed to be a "family member" going in and out of the kitchen, which created confusion.

Though we didn't receive any food or drinks, the staff did apologize, and I appreciate that gesture. We might consider giving the restaurant another chance in the future, hoping for a better experience focused on the food itself. "

Hito Yayai opened up recently near my house and my bf and I decided to try it out yesterday for the first time. The food exceeded our expectations, we got 3 sushi rolls, the rainbow, dragon and dream fish. The dream fish was the best out of the 3 and the best roll I’ve probably ever had, the other two rolls were delicious as well. We also tried 2 different types of nigiri, chefs choice so he made two rolls for us and brought them out personally and told us what they were. Both were very good. I also ordered a white peach sparkling yuzu and it was wonderful!

Now the only issue I have about this place is how long it took for each thing to come out, check included. It’s a small place and there was only one woman working the front while we were there, she was delightful, but by the end of the night had so many people to help that it seemed she couldn’t keep up with it. When we initially finished our 3 rolls and wanted to try some nigiri it took me 10-15 minutes to even get her attention because she was busy with other people and never even really looked in our direction. Then it took another 15-20 minutes to actually get the nigiri which we finished in 5 seconds because it’s only the one piece. It was incredibly hard to get her attention for the check and after I finally did get her attention (she charged me immediately because I got a notification) we ended up waiting another 10 minutes for my card, but she had seemed to forget about bringing it back and I could see it just sitting on the back counter so we had to stand up and go ask her for my card back so we could leave.

Really like the dream fish roll. No rice and light tempura, GREAT! Service was great tonight. Will definitely be back to try more items.

The nigiri was amazing especially the golden eye snapper and scallop. Cameron-San made great recommendations and the fish was very fresh and seasoned perfectly.
Shige is a tough act to follow, and the new chef is just as good. I’ll be back soon!

Was impressed with the quality of the food we ordered, as well as portion-size and pricing, which was perfect! Front of the house was helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and described items on the special board for us! Altogether, our experience here was great, and would not only come back here again soon, but recommend it to friends and family!
