It is unfortunate how a great start to a process ended in total disappointment. I am helping my friend J to enroll in a in-house detox program for alcoholism. I contacted Hoag Hospital and spoke with Rebecca who helped guide me to the ER as the best way for J to be start her evaluation for entry into the much needed program. I brought J to the ER and notified the staff that the purpose for the visit was to enroll J to detox. Everyone at this point was very professional and efficient. After check-in I was notified by Susan that J needed to answer 100 questions over a 30 minute time period. Unfortunately it was a one way converstion with someone more concerned getting off work in 30 minutes and not listening that J was in the middle of getting her blood drawn and not in postion to do a phone conversation. We were then visited by a doctor and I requested that the pre-entry evaluation be done in person instead of over the phone. We continued to wait and were finally notified by the doctor that there were no more openings at the detox center. What? The doctor provided referrals to other programs. What? We are here at Hoag for your program. Very disappointed that a person with awesome insurance and in much need of help was turned away because nobody wanted to take service to the next level by doing an in-person interview, that's what I think, that's my opinion. J was let down at a most critical stage of her life. Not Good!
