Excellent food and service within its market niche. A good place to go when one wants good food served promptly in a casual and friendly atmosphere.

I am from Texas and was wanting some good breakfast tacos. The bacon, potato, egg, and cheese taco was good but everything else I tasted was not. Queso had some overpowering taste in it almost like I was eating beans. The chorizo was not good. Stick with the basics I guess.

We have ordered a variety of their tacos for our son's b-day party. It was a big hit - everyone loved them. I was worried that we have ordered too much, but almost all the tacos were gone at the end of the party (I wish we had more leftovers)! I had a great experience communicating with their staff (I talked to Mia) who made some great suggestions!
I highly recommend this place - either for eating out or their catering service for your party!

Was staying in the neighborhood on a work trip. Holy cow this place is a gem. Great good and the friendliest service. Great vibes and reasonable pricing.

It has become our regular place to eat dinner since we have a therapy nearby. The food is good, it's fast service and the price is reasonable.

Whenever my partner asks if I want to go out, HomeState is the first restaurant that pops into my head. I love the casual vibes, cozy patio, always great playlists, fast service, and tasty salsas. I always order a frozen margarita, potato tacos (on flour tortilla), and a chips and queso. I recommending doctoring the queso with a dose of hot sauce, it's on the mild side.

Food was surprisingly good. Ambiance was great. The drinks are my absolute favorite it’s very hard to find a place that provides good food, service & drinks but Homestate does just that. Keep up the great work! I will definitely be going back.

Had a rather unfortunate dinner experience at this restaurant recently. My boyfriend and I ordered both of their veg taco options (potato & bean) and most of the tacos were ice cold. As if they were pre-made, put in the fridge, and then taken out to serve to us later. Cold, soggy potatoes and cold hard tortillas are not appetizing or worth $4+ a pop.

We brought it to a wait staff's attention, and although pleasant, they told us that next time we order, we need to specify that we want our tacos "hot" because they typically don't make the veg ones that way. The real kicker was that they brought us replacement tacos and they were just as cold if not colder than the ones before! First, we've ordered these same options in the past and never had them served to us ice cold or even room temp for that matter. Second, never did we think in a million years we'd have to specify wanting WARM/HOT tacos. Shouldn't that be a given? This is LA after all!

We'll be taking our business elsewhere where the food is actually fresh and worth the $. I did learn a lesson from all of this though.never take warm tacos for granted!

So…this is a weird one. I don’t really want to slander a local establishment but my experience tonight was just kind of bizarre. My boyfriend and I went to HomeState (honestly because Villas Tacos was not open) but it’s typically a decent option for a margarita and some tacos. We ordered the potato and bean tacos and sat down and got our food pretty quickly, but when we opened the tacos (they typically come wrapped nicely in tinfoil) we found both the contents and the tortillas to be FREEZING. Like, cold to touch. We each took a bite and looked at each other and realized the cold tacos were just not going to cut it.

So…I ended up flagging down one of the staff to ask if we could have our tacos heated up or get replacements because they were cold. Here’s where it got interesting. The staff person, as nice as she was, verbatim told me “we would be happy to get you new tacos, but for future reference when you order the vegetarian or vegan options at the front you need to make sure you specify that you want HOT tacos because there’s no meat. ”

I’m sorry…what? In what world do you order cold tacos? !? ! I almost asked her if she would eat a cold taco, i guarantee the answer would be no. However, I will never be rude towards staff and in the moment I just said hmm…okay no problem, but when I stopped to think about it, sure, okay, the lettuce and veggies won’t necessarily be hot but the tortilla and the potatoes, as well as the beans and cheese, should ABSOLUTELY be hot. In any case, my boyfriend and I got new tacos delivered to us (probably 15 minutes later) and much to our surprise and dismay…THESE WERE ALSO FREEZING. We ended up walking out with a bag of four potato and bean tacos that will probably be thrown away because they’re cold and soggy. $25 down the drain, as we had a total of four bites combined:/.

All in all, this was a very disappointing dining experience. Based on what I was told by the staff about how to specify my taco order…I will absolutely be getting my tacos elsewhere moving forward, as there are wayyyyy better options in Highland Park (Villas, Charlie’s, Nativo, to name a few) and elsewhere in the great city of Los Angeles.

The tacos and guacamole and chips was delicious! My husband had the brisket too and all so good! Great service, smiling faces, great atmosphere and good drinks!

Good food that is perfect for a casual and quick breakfast. Will run you a bit of if your appetite runs on the large side (or you are with the family). Sweet old alley that has been converted to an outdoor patio to enjoy the wonderful southern California weather. Lots of seating and plenty of room for larger parties, though you may need to do a little mix and match with the chairs.

Great ambiance and decor. The tacos and drinks are blend of Texas Mexico breakfast. Some tacos are better than others but they do it’s job.

National Geographic photo icon Gerd Ludwig took us yesterday for lunch. I follow his recommendations as he sure has seen the world. I f***ing loved their flour tacos. Can't wait to go again!

If you go - the entire street is worth a visit, make sure you visit the barber next door, and if it's just to sneak in, I tell you, it's worth it (however, they have other locations too, and no, they are not one of these chain restaurants).

Back to the restaurant: would I make a 30+ min detour just to dine here (mandatory in my rating scheme to achieve five stars). You bet!

Any street taco stand is going to be tastier, but they do use quality ingredients here and the prices are reasonable. Try the queso. I like this place, but wouldn’t say I love it.

Truly nothing special. Most tacos are soggy. Not sure what the hype is all about. Luckily it’s cheap — but you get what you pay for.

$2.50 for a side of sour cream? They also took the free salsa option off of their DoorDash. CHEAP. After years of loyalty I’m out ️

Palomas were very good, some items such as texas toast brisket sandwich and frito pie were very tasty, but others such as picadillo and chicken were under seasoned. Portions are smaller than expected for the price. Service was great, both at the counter and seating areas.

Homestate is excellent. The brisket taco is by far the best of the meat based items, followed by the potato. I'd preffer if they tone down the cumin a bit, but it still very good. Breakfast options are great as well, though I almost always stick with the above. Get a paloma and rock on the Boulevard!

Besides the 30 minute wait for a couple tacos while dining in, the food was great. The best part about the meal was their queso, yum. Neat atmosphere. They could get more organized in the kitchen though.
