Tex-Mex Restaurant HomeState reviews
19What a great spot was just an LA for an extended layover at the airport. We were tired of airport food and this spot didn’t disappoint! Everybody was so NICE and went out of their way to refill our coffee and chips. The food was excellent we went with breakfast tacos and a Misa (which was a lot of stuff packed into a dish with a tortilla on the side). Also grabbed a side of potato’s and lil queso which was fantastic. When I’m in LA next I will definitely come back!
It’s a pretty good spot for a brunch. I tried the Potato, Pecos, and Don’t Mess with Texas. The taste of the tacos are fine but the size is small for the price. It adds up since most people will need to order at least 2 to be satisfied. The drink prices are pretty reasonable.
Great food and service. Pricier than a smaller taqueria, however, with one taco costing $5-$6. Tasty af, though
This is my favorite Home State of the 3 locations I have been to. More elbow room, easier parking, nice area with the same great food. And the tech bro watching is almost Bay level!
Quick service and great food. This place is a no brainer. We liked it so much we went twice in a span of three days.
I spent three weeks in LA and sampled a good few tacos. These were the best by far.
Bit of a weird area for such good tacos but were very delicious!
Best breakfast tacos with authentic northern Mexico tortillas! My mexican family loved the tacos specially the brisket, trinity and pecos. Also the eggs are very fresh, soft and juicy
There's usually a line to order but it moves fast so the wait is not long
The only annoying thing is that if you have to go to the bathroom you have to walk a bit through the kitchen, the staff kindly moves asap to let the customers through but I imagine this is just as annoying for them
Usually not a fan of Tex Mex, but these guys are making delicious stuff. The homemade flour tortillas are a must. Great breakfast and lunch tacos. Location is a bit meh - office complex so it’s dead during the weekend. Still worth a drive there if you’re in the area though.
The atmosphere and service were great but the food didn't deliver. As I was born and raised in Texas, this is not a Texas kitchen. Breakfast tacos are pretty pricey but very small. Plus, you should have a choice between real or vegan eggs. Food had no flavor at all. I had to drown it in sauce to eat it. Big miss for me.
What’s not to love about Home State? We shared the loaded queso, and got $6 margaritas during their happy hour special from 3-6. Parking in this area is awful though.
Parking is not cheap. You will more than likely have a bit of a walk to get to restaurant. Lines were long but moved quickly. Staff was busy but still friendly. Food arrived quickly and was hot and delicious.
If you’re looking for some good ole Tex mex- this is the spot! Never had a bad taco and highly recommend the queso.
THEE best breakfast tacos I’ve ever had in my life, bar none. The only thing lacking at the Playa Vista location is parking. I usually get mine to go, so I park in a red zone, run in and get out. Worth it!
We had the Pecos and the trinity soft tacos. They aren't too big, and my husband had 2 and was comfortably full. Get the queso to dip your tacos in! I also enjoyed the green sauce, which had a quick, but not very spicy (for me). Wanted to try their iced coffee, but they were out. We sat out on the patio with our dog, and other patrons did the same. They keep it very clean. Will have to come back to try other tacos and the coffee!
I usually go to the Pasadena location, but found out this spot is right around the corner from home. The food and Margaritas never disappoint!
Outpost of popular taco spot from Texas. Came here for lunch with a couple of friends who work in Silicon Beach, and there was a line but it moved quickly. Indoor and outdoor dining available. Restrooms available in the back. You order at the counter and receive a number. Credit cards accepted. They do serve alcohol. Breakfast tacos served all day. I got the Trinity and Neches tacos, which were very filling. Our table also split a small order of queso (and even that we could barely finish). There’s self-service water across the counter. The indoor tables were more conducive for big groups, but plenty of people were coming in just for takeout.
One day I woke up and realized I visit HomeState in PDR weekly. So many good things to say about this place - even when busy there’s always a spot to eat and fast service. Margaritas are strong and fresh. Brisket tacos are worth every bite and queso is the best in LA. Plenty of free parking across the street and friendly staff. In fact, maybe I’ll stop by for a drink and a taco right now.
Very delicious Mexican food, first time visiting the restaurant but my son and daughter-in-law often go to eat something that I really like. The waitress who served us was very friendly, the only difference from the others is a highly recommended place.
It is a staple for whenever we’re in LA (which is often because it’s our second time in 2 months). We came straight here after landing in the airport and might even make it our last stop before we fly out. The eggs are perfection, so pillowy soft and cooked well. The flour tortillas give me life and are always made with love. The brisket so tender and flavourful. The service so friendly and kind. It truly does feel like home (even tho I’m not from Texas). The queso don’t even get me started. I would drink it. I would bathe it in. I might name my future children after it.
It does not get better than this.
15/10 would recommend.
