Hooked on Sushi reviews
19Great weekday lunch specials! Sweet servers and fast service. Don't forget to sign up for their points program (Tuesdays are double points). Enjoy!
My favorite place in North County. I first visited the Carlsbad location in 2010 and I've been hooked ever since. Love the owner, he's great!
Service and atmosphere is still good but the food quality/taste is not. We keep coming back hoping the previous disappointment in the food was just that day. This was a third visit that the food was not what it was as in the past. I am willing to pay increased prices that all restaurants have done in support of the business as long as the food quality/taste remains. The past three visits the sushi rice tasted like it was made the day before and when used to make the rolls, condensation made the rice mushy. Also, the unagi bowl is not worth the price with paper thin unagi slices served in a super deep bowl of too much rice. At least we got to bring home the over priced left over rice. Even with all the above said, we will give Hooked on Sushi Encinitas one more try hoping for a better food experience after this review.
Pretty good food for the price. Service can be a little slow sometimes, but otherwise, everyone is nice and everything is clean
The service and atmosphere was excellent! The food, especially the sushi, was very good, and they have so many options to choose from! They also have a great combo deal where you can choose from a list of appetizers, entrees, and sushi rolls, you can get 2 or 3 options for $16-19. The portions are very large! Our food came out very quickly, too.
Delicious, well priced sushi. Very friendly, quick, and helpful servers. High quality sashimi. Lots of specialty rolls to choose from (and the menu includes pictures if the rolls!). Definitely give this place a try if you haven't.
I love the concept of this place and having multiple different rolls. I understand they have an extensive menu and there are options outside of their special rolls but everything seemed to have tempura in it or deep fried. Didn't love that aspect of food.
I wish they would get rid of the TVs on every wall and add more maki options back to their "pick 2 or 3" entrees. Otherwise my whole family enjoys it here.
Lunch special is a great deal. Lots of good food options with big portions. I sat here for a few hours working and everyone was very nice about it. Would definitely go back!
Sort of disappointed - the homeless roll is renamed to homie roll but it doesn’t taste as good as how it used so I don’t know if they changed their recipe. The homeless roll used to be insanely good so I was a bit disappointed during dinner today when the roll was so-so.
The sashimi was fresh as always and the spicy sesame chicken was very flavorful.
Very nice staff and our waiter was attentive.
The sushi here is pretty good. The dumplings and eggs rolls were pretty unimpressive. We are from out of town, but if we were in town regularly we would probably not eat here again.
Hostess asked us to wait in the car or outside when the restaurant wasn’t even busy. The temperature outside was around 50 or colder. Here attitude was unbearable so we left the restaurant and will not be returning. Don’t waste your time
We had a few rolls and their spicy tuna was not good, also their crunchy calamari was minced like pate and not good. I like a little texture and taste when eating sushi. Now on a positive note, great service, and good vegetable tempura.
Old fish but clean atmosphere and okay service. But I wouldn’t eat raw here. The fish has a very off taste they tried to burry with sauce and a heaping amount of Sriracha. It’s my personal belief any sushi place that covers their raw goods in sauces to disguise the flavor of a fish isn’t a staple sushi place. Not to mention the sushi slices we received were thick little steaks that should have been served with a knife and fork. Which is a big example of low quality execution at the sushi bar. I don’t recommend I won’t be back. Very disappointed.
I wanted to like it.very disappointed! My 'crunchy' roll was soggy and didn't taste fresh at all.
Asparagus roll was terrible! The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the Tempura Veggies were very good.
Had several sushi rolls.all of which were very good. In particular, liked the Marilyn Monroll and the Carlsbad Lagoon rolls. Excellent service as well. We'll be back.
We always come here and love the food but this time Tuesday around 2: 45pm, there was an annoying employee singing opera to the background music that was playing. He was so loud and out of tune we just wanted to get out of there. Please don’t sing just do your job and act your age.
One of our favorite sushi in our beautiful town Encinitas. It is located in the shopping plaza and we love going there. Our favorites are Homi, Bruce Lee, Mexican gone wild, their lunch specials and bento boxes are also fabulous… many many more, try and you won’t regret.
I always order the same roll from here. Last night I did the same and had to dispose of the whole roll! I was extremely disappointed. Seems like someone was angry at the world while making my roll! They put an over exaggerated amount of chili sauce in the roll and in the spicy tuna. I almost chocked on my roll! Take it down a notch son! Geez! You guys are trying to kill people. Not a happy consistent customer. Train better! Consistency in cuisine is what keeps a restaurant a float.
