Great service! From the Valet Parking gentleman to the front desk agent. Everyone was friendly. The hotel is at walking distance from many restaurants, museums, convention centers, and the amphitheater. The hotel was clean, in great condition, and very charming. Great history and still in good condition considering it is 137 years old!

I wanted to stay in the Gas Lamp district and what better place to stay but at Horton Grand Hotel. It felt like we went back 100 years years. We had a fireplace, a balcony overlooking the courtyard, complimentary drinks for the bar Salt & Whiskeys. There was only Valet service but it turns out it made our lives easier. We werenso close to the bars and restaurants and in the morning, the street market. I would go back again but stay longer

We had an amazing stay at the hotel. Our room was very comfortable, the location is key, close to everything, the beach, downtown, bars, restaurants. Also the service was great, everyone at the hotel was very kind and happy to help and give recommendations during our stay. The drinks and food at the hotel’s bar were also great! We would definitely come back!

Charming old hotel, can use more upgrades, excellent location, kept clean, friendly staff. My room was very small and felt very crowded even with minimal furniture and no fridge. My room was very noisy, lots of noise from the street and restaurant/bar downstairs, I couldn’t sleep without earplugs. Basically it’s not a good option for everyone but definitely a unique hotel experience if you can tolerate all the noise.

A wonderful hotel! Excellent location, service, and the rooms were quiet. (We were above the bar and while we could hear bar chatter, it was still quiet enough to sleep easily.)
My only complaint is there is a ~$25 per day Destination Fee that I did not notice on the website. The price is still worth it, but I think the fee should be included in the price up-front to avoid surprises.

When I checked out, I was not given an invoice after I asked the hotel directly, as this was supposed to be handled by Booking. Now I left the hotel without the bill. In the later inquiries at Booking, it was said that the hotel was responsible for the bill. My written inquiries to the hotel (by email) remained without any reaction. I really don't think that's right. Next time I will look for another place to stay in San Diego.

I would’ve given this place 5 stars because of the gorgeous rooms, beautiful center patio with greenery and adorable balconies for each room. But my husband and I stayed two nights and requested maid service our only full day via the provided door knob placard. When we returned from trekking around San Diego, we found our room looking exactly as we’d left it. No made up bed, refreshed coffee, etc, but the placard had been moved back inside our door. When I called down to the front desk to tell them, they said that we needed to request housekeeping at the front desk, but didn’t mention this when we checked in. They were gracious and did apologize, but housekeeping had one opportunity to make a good impression because we checked out the next morning. Just a little bit of a let down there. Otherwise this is a gorgeous hotel in the heart of downtown San Diego and steps to everything the city’s nightlife has to offer. The decor and furniture are vintage feel and tasteful. Just make sure you request housekeeping!

This was a really nice place to stay. The hotel had a great deal, and you could tell that this place was old but was clean and nicely renovated. I made a mistake when booking the room and Adee at the service desk went above and beyond to correct it for me. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

A classy hotel. Great service. All rooms are differently decorated in antiques and fireplaces. Nice entertainment by the bar lobby. Some haunted rooms. Historic hotel. A popular hotel for receptions and private events and parties. Within easy walking distance to many stores, shops, bars, nightclubs and theatres.

Very historic and located in the Gas Lamp district. Short walk to anywhere. The rooms we got were amazing, especially for the price.

There is a courtyard that weddings I think are held at.

Does not have a view of the water, but can easily be walked to. It also has a restaurant and snack bar on the inside.

A convenient location in the heart of the convention zone. Walkable to restaurants, convention center, waterfront. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms are quaint but comfortable. Great linens, comfortable bed, pillows. Would stay again!

Bad experience over 5 nights. I really wanted to like this place, has a lot of character. Room smelled bad, shower was dirty (soap stains from previous occupants) with barely any water pressure, sheets were old and scratchy, they made up the room by putting in new towels and doing nothing else. I told the staff when I checked out, and they were unhelpful and didn’t seem to care. Would not stay here again.

Historical hotel with a beautiful lobby and restaurant, staff gave me extra blankets and coffee pods and were very professional and nice, rooms need some updating. My only real complaint is the destination fee which makes no sense since there's nothing but homeless people begging for money in the gas lamp district. That extra money which was 25 per day could go to the badly needed renovation that the hotel needs

Kathleen/Cathleen was SO helpful and kind. The third party we booked through messed up and booked us a one bed for three people, when the booking was for two beds. This gal displayed amazing customer service and was able to place us in a room that could sleep all three of us. The hotel itself is definitely haunted which is super cool, and it was clean and we had an enjoyable stay.

Absolutely adored this place. We stayed Christmas Eve, the security guard and woman at the front desk were beyond welcoming and kind. The room and view from our balcony was amazing. And to top it off, I accidentally left my grandmothers necklace there and they were so quick to locate and keep it until my friend could go get it for me. Anytime I’m in San Diego this is where I will be staying! Highly recommend.

We enjoyed such a wonderful stay at the Horton Grand and would gladly recommend it to anyone. The beauty and spaciousness of the room (we stayed in a Premier Suite) far exceeded our expectations and was an incredible value for the price, even exceeding rooms that we have paid twice as much for in the past. The location was wonderful and we were always within walking distance of anything we could possibly need (grocery, shopping, restaurants, clubs, and Seaport Village). The staff was courteous and helpful when needed. The room was more than spacious, clean, modern, and beautiful. We were in town for an event and are not typically "city folk" - generally preferring open spaces and fewer people - but our experience with this hotel has changed our mind and we already plan to come back. Thank you for a wonderful anniversary/holiday party weekend!
If we had any constructive feedback, it would be that there was a lot of noise (there was even a child singing/screaming at the top of her lungs below our room at 7 am in the morning one day, and nobody stopped her!). This didn't bother us greatly, but could have had we intended to sleep in. Noise through the walls was a little bothersome. A little more instruction on the Nespresso coffee could be helpful, particular to the sizes of the drinks you would have at completion. We were 4 mornings in before realizing the machine produced different sized cups according to pod selection. Lastly - a slight upgrade to the showers would go a VERY long way with the overall aesthetics of the rooms. I would prefer a tile shower to a step in bath any day. Also, the water was barely warm enough even at full hot. That's all just me being picky! No place is perfect, but this place was nearly so. Highly recommended.

Wanted to stay couple days at this hotel- nice location. Arrived 12/29 and tried to check in earlier- at 1 PM- wife was tired. Rude guy at reception- don’t remember his name- usually he seats at right side inside the reception- big fat guy- he said that the rule is- check in at 4 PM and it’s too early to check- is room ready or not. Understandable. But not understandable why he is too lazy to check room possibility. Came back at 2.45 PM and asked about room again. He told me that room is ready but we are too early again) and he can get room key for 75$ (early check in). 1$-1 min till 4 PM). Unbelievable and very unprofessional- good luck with this kind of service- moved to another hotel next day. Also), no coffee, sugar, milk etc- they didn’t have it at reception. Also), to upgrade the room cost 50$) - to wait 1 hour 15 min- 75$). ;Don’t recommend this hotel for whom who wanna spend good money in right place- beautiful historical place and that’s it- nothing more

We spent a night at the Horton Grand Hotel since we were going to be staying out late in downtown. The architecture and historic vibe of the hotel is awesome. The room was furnished with antiques which contributed to the historical feel of the entire hotel. The entire staff was polite and accomodating with the valet being very convenient due to the limited parking downtown. The attached restaurant had great breakfast and the location of the hotel was close to everywhere we wanted to go.

Broken elevator door crashed and banged all night and morning. The floor above squeaks, which is our ceiling. Bed is way too soft for most human spines. Parking rate is absurd. Nice general area ambiance and an ok price, that's about it. Don't plan on sleeping.

Came for our wedding anniversary, from the beginning it was great. We were greated by a very sweet lady behind the counter. She explained how everything worked and made us feel really comfortable. Parking is a bit difficult specially overnight, but that was expected. The hotel does offer over night valet parking for about $50. The hotel also has a very nice bar for a quick drink to get the night started along with a small restaurant in the patio area. Not to mention the location! It is right in the middle of downtown and you can easily walk to restaurants and bars. Our stay was overall amazing. Definitely recommend!
