Hotel Abrego, Monterey CA

Loved our stay!

Rooms were reasonably sized, nothing extraordinary about them, but nothing to complain about either. The fireplace was nice (dad and I enjoyed drinks by its side), linen was clean, beds were comfortable enough.

Complimentary wine was a nice touch, the breakfast was better than what you get at other hotels of similar price (bagels were great, breakfast burrito was decent). As far as the kitchen goes, their Seasoned Fries were tasty, Fish and Chips was decent.

Service was surprisingly good. They have room service available - apart from food, they delivered ice to our room. They even gave us free ice cream one night Overall, the staff was very helpful and friendly.

Did not try their Jacuzzi. Saw some people enjoying the hot water but the weather overall was too cold for us to dare a dip.

Would definitely stay here again when we visit Monterey. Great hotel at a reasonable price at a perfect and quiet location that is hardly 8 minutes walk away from Monterey downtown.

We stayed in a two queen room, it’s was very clean. The room had plenty of room, we were able to put up our pack and play with enough room to move it around. The fire place made it nice and cozy, and the breakfast was great! They had scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, hard boil eggs, toast, milk and cereal as well as fresh fruit. Enough choices for my 6yr old picky eater to find something to eat. Would stay here again!

The hotel looks nice from the outside but their rooms are quite different than the pictures posted by the official website. The ones not in the main building are more like motel rooms - doors facing hallways and there is no table. Nonetheless it is pretty comfortable and clean. The bathroom is really nice too.

However the service is terrible. We booked through a third party website and they were unclear about what charges they would put on my card. They first said that my card would be charged an additional $20 for amenities until I told them that was already paid for. The next day, a hotel person came knocking on the door before check out time, and we had do not disturb sign on. I answered the door and he said "checking out? " When I asked the front desk person he said my room is under a different person's name and they checked out. It was a bad experience for us but nonetheless it is a nice place to stay.

I really wish my stay was better here, but I will not be returning to try again. We upgraded to add a fireplace, but there was only one lounge chair where only my husband or I could sit, we could not sit comfortably at the same time. Not very romantic so don't waste the money.

The toilet kept running all night (jiggling the handle did not work).

The pillows are extremely thin, felt like I was sleeping on the mattress.

I was up listening to people stomp around from 430am-7am. I see that there noise complaints in other reviews, with responses from the hotel, so ear plugs should have been provided.

You will be charged a $20 reort fee for complimentary wine that tastes like it has been open for far too long and a continental breakfast that is not worth the extra fee. My husband and I got down there at 9am (an hour before they closed), they were out of oatmeal, eggs, as well as milk, cream and half and half at the coffee station. Just a heads up, there wasn't an option of protein (sausage/bacon) and no make your own waffle maker. Because of all the options provided at their restaurant for dinner, I was expecting more.

Lastly the staff didn't even ask how are stay was when we checked out, which further shows that this hotel is only phoning it in.

Pros: Good curb appeal, convenient location, good parking, a glass of wine upon check-in & a hearty free breakfast. Cons: Reception staff was cold, not welcoming, and our ground floor room was dark and a bit noisy.

The room was so spacious, and it had a fireplace and a huge bathroom. The bed was comfortable. The shower had 2 shower heads. It was in a great location, close many restaurants and stores. The night we stayed there was a farmers market which we really enjoyed. We will definitely come back and stay again. There is a $20 fee which covers parking, breakfast for the room, and they give you their wine to try and the glasses are filled up to the top during their happy hour where you can purchase other drinks and they also have food. We didn't order food but I did try their lavender lemonade which was delicious.

Prices are very fair but this is a motel not a “boutique hotel” as per the marketing. Majority of the rooms are external with doors accessible from the street. We did not feel safe. After taking our luggage to reception we had to carry it back past our car to the other side of the car park. We possibly got unlucky with our room but the shower drain stank, as did the AC. Room was right above some noisy vents and the garbage truck came at 5am. All in all not a great stay.

This is what you would expect from a 3 star hotel, but the rooms are loud. The rooms are very loud in fact. We heard everything from the people above (enjoying a honeymoon maybe) and there is a very busy street outside so it can get noisy (garbage men, loud motorcycles)
The receptionists are not welcoming, rude if anything and hiding behind the desk.
Breakfast staff was nice, and food choices- oatmeal, egg sandwiches, toast, breakfast burritos were good.
House cleaning service is by request and they were friendly and cleaned well.
This hotel is not worth more than $200 a night.

I have mixed feelings for this place. Half of the rooms are like a motel the door is straight out to the parking lot. They hide the fact in the pictures of the place. The towels had holes and were very ruff. Definitely past their prime. Good location and friendly staff.

We stayed here four nights in September 2022 and it was a very pleasant experience at a reasonable price. The hotel is within walking distance of the harbour, wharfs and restaurants. The room we had on the first night had an AC unit that didn't cool the room enough so reception moved us to a better room with very effective AC and gave us a refund of $100 for the first night. In the second room the bathroom extractor did not work but overall the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The $20 extra fee per night is well worth it to get free parking, internet, a free glass of wine and a substantial free breakfast. All the staff, especially on reception and in the bar were friendly and very helpful. We thoroughly recommend this hotel if staying in Monterey.

Really friendly staff on reception and bar. Worried at first because our room was close to road but nothing can be heard of the traffic at all and it's not busy. Huge room. Very comfortable beds. All good for one night on our road trip.

The room we had was quite comfortable and had a nice little balcony to enjoy. The wifi was fast and reliable, the pool and hot tub were great and it is located within walking distance of a number of shops, bakeries, cafes & restaurants, historical sites, the pier, and a dog park. It's a very short drive to Cannery Row.

My sister and I stayed at this hotel for 5 days this past week while we were in Monterey to sightsee along the PCH. We had a wonderful stay here! The look of the hotel outside and inside is very warm, cozy and inviting, the beds and pillows were very comfortable, the staff was so friendly and helpful, the bathroom was spacious and very clean (actually everything was very clean), the WiFi was fast, and it was a perfect location; within walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and the wharf. The front desk staff was awesome, especially Ernie who first checked us in. They accommodated all our requests and made us feel welcomed. We truly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Abrego and will definitely recommend to family and friends. Can't wait to go back!

So happy with my decision to stay here. The staff was a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond at every opportunity to make sure my stay was perfect. The hotel and rooms are beautiful and there's plenty of parking and tons of things to do within walking distance. The two Ernie's working the front were incredible and are a huge asset to the team at Hotel Abrego. Thank you for the wonderful time.

Wonderful place to stay! Staff was so helpful and friendly. Rooms were very clean. Pretty close to Fisherman's Wharf, Monterey Aquarium, and Cannery Row. Complimentary glass of wine in small bar area with light fare menu. Wonderful complimentary breakfast unlike any other place we've stayed. Oatmeal, breakfast burritos and sandwiches, pastries, hard boiled eggs and yogurt fruit cups. The luxurious accommodations were well worth the price.

My family and I, (one is 9 years old, one is 5 years old), stayed for one night on 8/2/2022. In the middle of the night someone took the key and opened our door. When we were already asleep, my husband yelled to put that person Scared away so we couldn't sleep through the night and I was so worried about scaring my kids. We asked the front desk the next day and it turned out to be because they gave other guests our keys. Then put me in touch with Expedia and said they refunded me $50.0 and gave me my phone number, but no one answered me when I dialed the number. I was very angry because my husband had to drive for a long time the next day, but he didn't have a good rest at all because of the hotel's mistake, which affected our state and psychology the next day.

I loved my stay! Along with your stay you will get a complimentary glass of wine for each guest, breakfast and access to the pool/hot tub, and gym. The breakfast was good, the gym was small, and the pool area was okay. But the staff was friendly and accommodating. Ernie at the bar/restaurant was a lovely server. Very kind and welcoming. The location is walking distance, 10 minutes, to the beach. It is also so close to everything. I would stay here again. Highly recommend!

Booked a non-refundable room at a decent price, when I arrived to check-in they charge you an additional $20 for "parking, wifi, wine tickets, breakfast. " and other things that are typically complimentary. This hidden fee was not mentioned anywhere while booking the non-refundable room, so if you want those amenities you are essentially forced to pay up when you arrive. The price of the room was decent, but this extra fee just felt like a cash-grab.

The room was clean and very spacious. TV was a bit small and outdated. Location is pretty good, only a few blocks away from downtown Monterey and the wharf. The Chinese restaurant across the street is really good. The "free" breakfast was decent.

Worst staying ever. The checking in man does even know where the room is. If you coming late you probably get a basement room even there's a regular one free. Be aware, there are a lot of better options around.
