Great place to stay. Near major amenities, good comfy bed. I'd stay again. Very good value for money. They even provide you with a reusable water bottle.

We don't travel too much so we took a chance on this hotel and boy did it pay off! The hotel itself was clean, well appointed, and fun! From the reusable water bottles to all the branded items, it really felt like a little experience by itself. The bed was very comfortable and the double duvets is a stroke of genius. The location also can't be beat for the gas lamp. Lastly, the staff we interacted with were absolutely out of this world (looking at you Hope). So kind, friendly, and helpful. Got to know my wife and my name in a single day and asked about our day when we got back. We will definitely be back.

We had such an amazing stay at the Hotel Z during our winter break last year and e me joyed all the unique pineapple and experience. The room was cute and warm with everything pineapple theme. The ropes were extremely cozy. The location is perfect within the heart of the Gaslamp Quarters. Each of us got pick our favorite drinks and they served cute and yummy pineapple cookies every afternoon for free. What a memorable experience for the holidays!

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Z very much. Friendly staff, clean rooms, lots of coffee. The location is perfect, right at gaslamp quater and at the same time in walking distance of the convention center. Can be reached easily from the airport via the 992 bus.
If I visit San Diego again, this will most likely be my first choice.

What a wonderful unique experience! First of all, staff was so great and even wrote my wife a personalized note wishing her a happy birthday. On top of that, they offered many things to us, such as a pack-and-play since we had a baby with us. Aside from the great service, the hotel is so cool and unique! It is a smaller hotel, so don't expect to swim in an Olympic size pool next to a fancy large restaurant, because this is a more small personal hotel experience. Many great places to eat and walk around to. Will definitely come back here in the future!

It was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. Very comfortable. Very good location. Enjoyed the amenities. Service was exceptional. I can't say enough about how great the front desk people were. We hope to say again!

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, it was clean and spacious. The location is amazing, steps from amazing restaurants and Petco Park. Wish they could provide extra duvet for our son who slept on the sofa bed. They did provide think blankets but not they did not have extra fluffy duvet for the extra guest. Note that they only clean every other day, which was not a problem for us. Overall, highly recommended.

Great service from the time we walked in the doors. "Wolf" was helping us with checking in and having great conversations. Will stay here again soon. Very convenient and close to everything downtown in San Diego. 10/10

The bed and the way the sheets are organized was the most comfortable I have ever felt in regards to cleanliness in a hotel. It's the people that make this place. I have also never felt more at home at a hotel.

I booked this hotel for my husbands 30th birthday vacation trip to San Diego. It was one of the best decisions I made. The staff alone made this stay incredible. So big shout outs to Allen, Hope and Debra! Thank you for everything! They were kind, attentive and gave great advice on restaurants and adventures. The room was also great. We stayed in the king suite. Comfy beds and comforters. Extremely clean. I love that you get little things with your stay as well like free water, cookies, and even bikes to roam around in the city. Not to mention the location of the hotel is right in Gaslamp and near all types of restaurants. Overall amazing experience. Would definitely recommend or stay again myself!

LOVE this hotel. Straight up the best sleep I've ever had. (They give you info to buy their mattresses, pillows & bedding but not in my budget yet. SOON!) This is the second time our company has stayed here for a yearly convention; after the first year we stayed we booked before we left to guarantee rooms for the next year. The proximity to the San Diego Convention Center is easily within walking distance, restaurants & shops also with a CVS right around the corner. The rooms are not your typical hotel style, more Euro, no closet, hanging rack w/drawers. Plenty of plugs in the desk area, large wall-mounted flat-screen TV, lots of lighting, walk-in shower w/great water pressure, wall mounted shampoo, conditioner & bath gel in the shower and wall mounted soap & lotion by the sink. BIG thirsty bath towels! AC works great, perfect for turning down nice & cold then snuggling down under the European comforters (yes, there's 2 singles). Bottled water f/the front desk every day which I use in the single-serve coffee maker. Signature pineapple cookies when you check in, Happy Hour in the lobby in the evenings. The STAFF! Is absolutely excellent, always friendly, quick to address any issue you might have and appear to actually like their jobs. I deal a lot with the Corporate Sales side also and they too are friendly, professional and again address any issue quickly and efficiently, making my booking job a lot easier. I stayed here on business but look forward to staying at other Staypineapple properties in other locations for pleasure. HIGHLY recommend this hotel in the GasLamp Quarter.

UPDATE, A YEAR LATER: Can't post a new review, so adding on to this one. Everything thing I said before still applies. LOVE this hotel and still the best night's sleep I've ever had. (Still working on getting that mattress.) As I book several rooms for our company during convention week there are always issues with people changing their schedules or last minute additions & cancelations; the staff of this hotel chain makes those changes easy and pain-free, and when you're dealing with close to 20 rooms that's saying something. So thank you again, Hotel Z, for making my & my company's executives, engineers and German counterparts stay in the GasLamp enjoyable, comfortable and truly accommodating. Still recommend and will still be back whenever possible.

My friends and I planned a weekend in SD, and she decided on StayPineapple Hotel Z San Diego. I used to live in SD and frequent the area but have never stayed here before. Since I'm fond of pineapples (Hawaii Home), I was excited to see how the accommodations were going to be.

We checked in late evening, and it is required to have a key to enter, or someone at the front desk will buzz you in.

The check-in process was smooth, but we had a mishap with the FD staff. I told him my friends and I were traveling together and we'd like to see if they were able to accommodate us on the same floor. Yay, he confirmed that we were on the same floor. I did call the night before to inform them of my requests and that I wanted to change the room type because a friend of mine wanted to stay with me in my room. According to the front desk agent who answered the phone, the upcharge would be $215 for changing the bedding type from king to 2 beds. I said, "That's OK because I don't want to spend $215 a night. We hung up and decided my friend would not stay in our room.

While checking in, the front desk agent had my ID, and he was inputting information. I then asked what credit card I had on file. He gave me the last 4, and umm, it doesn't sound familiar. My friend who was sitting down waiting for me to check so she can check in says that sounds like her credit number. Well, apparently, the Front Desk staff started changing my friends reservation, updating the address with my address/information. Apparently, it's possible that he looked up her reservation when I told him I was traveling with her. Yikes!

We went into our room and I was very pleased. They had 2 beds for me. Yay. I quickly called downstairs to ensure that I was not charged for the upgrade. Unfortunately, my friend who wanted to stay with me ended up going home (lives in SD) because i thought I i would have a single bed. Anyway, the beds were so comfy, and the water pressure in the shower was also awesome.

On the last night, my keys no longer worked. I went downstairs to the front desk, and the supervisor came up and tried what she could but still was not able to open my door. She says she does not have any maintenance on-site that they are there between 9-6pm. I told her I was leaving for dinner and to please call me if someone (on call maintenance) is able to change my lock. Later, she called me and said no one would be able to change my lock/batteries until the AM. I said ok, well, someone will have to let me in when I return. " When we did return, the Night Auditor couldn't open the door, so we waited in the hall while he went to get something else to let us in. He finally got the door open, which I was annoyed at this point.

The next morning, I didn't want to leave my room because I knew that I didn't have a key. So I had to wait until someone in my room was awake. Again, it's annoying. Finally, someone came to repair it, which took only 2 minutes. We were able to leave with no restrictions. Now, why can't they have the overnight worker (night audit) learn how to do this repair in the event it happens to someone else. I was furious when we left, and I was ready to email the GM about my experience. I received a survey and an email asking for feedback about my accommodations. I responded to the email and expressed my negative experience, and gave them feedback. I was later contacted by Alan, Rooms Division Manager. We discussed the situation, and he made it right with me. At the end of our phone call, I was a happy customer. Many thanks to Alan for listening to my concerns and frustrations.

Overall, this is still a great boutique hotel in the heart of downtown gaslamp. When I'm in SD, I'll probably stay here again and will recommend it to all. P. S. It's a pet friendly hotel with bikes you can use.

Small rooms. They didn't do the room except for one time in four days
HOPE (ESPRANZA) from the front desk was terrible, unkind.
Good location
