Hourglass Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection, Bakersfield CA

The hotel is so clean and clam. It is worth the price.
The rooms are really good, parking in front of it.
I would recommend it if you are looking for a hotel there.

Stayed 2 nights. Great rooms, beds and renovated facilities.
My only issue with the room was the TV system… like an android tv box from a number of years ago that is outdated and apps wouldn’t work.
Service was. One adult in our party has a broken foot and when we asked about a first floor room due to lack of elevator… the response was pretty short. Same with checkout. The people working were not very friendly. I may have caught them in a busy moment, but still…
I would suggest making sure the second floor is full before the first to accommodate people with disabilities. Also since there is not an elevator, the reservation should clearly mention the lack of elevator so people know.
For the price, the breakfast was the only disappointment. I was expecting a breakfast like at the Tru by Hilton… or similar places.
The other reviews mentioning the grab and go breakfast are correct.

Was overall very pleased with the hotel. Check-In took a little longer than expected. Only had two people working the front desk with about 5 people in line. Ice machine near our room was broken, but no big deal. Just went to another one further away. Would come again.

This hotel has been recently remodeled and is great! The rooms are clean and big and many have balconies or patios that face the pool.

Very comfortable room, breakfast was only yogurt and coffee. And we came for the electric car charger and it was broken.

I would normally have rated The Hourglass 5 stars. But I was not here for pleasure. I caught my girlfriend here with another man. This does not reflect on the Hourglass in any way. It just happened to be where it happened. Other than that, I have stayed here many times. Always a great time and a great stay. I would recommend this business to everyone.

My stay was for 3 nights. Overall, because of the clean & spacious rooms, I will likely stay again I just hope their pool and ice machines work.

THE GOOD:

THE BAD:
-Pool was closed after the first day and had a huge lock so no one enters.

- lawn was dying! I've never seen a hotel with dead grass

-zero ice machines worked

-Hot tub was under construction

-Key card system is a headache. You need one key to enter the building from the outside (which only worked 40% of the time, no fun when you're locked out in 100°+ weather) and another to enter your room.

-It was my first time here so I didn't know there was no elevator. I kindly asked for a bottom floor due to a disability and the manager was very annoyed stating firmly that they are busy and can't go making any changes we want. (I mean, it was a yes or no question). Things worked out.
-The manager had a short temper, but everyone else was super friendly

-sliding doors are very old and beat up

very tasty cookies.

Coffee is very good. Very large rooms.

What is served here as breakfast cannot be considered
Call breakfast. It's not a real breakfast. The hotel
smells like moisture. We got two bedrooms
instead of a bed. All the cables underneath the TV are just hanging.

The Hotel has been recently renovated and is very comfortable. They have a nice pool, the spa was closed when I stayed. The TV was nice and I liked how I could just cast my phone to the screen. The hotel was modern and clean. It was quiet and the surrounding neighborhood was quiet as well.

The hotel has a good base because their rooms are very nice and the beds are super comfortable. The location is pretty great with access to the main road that goes through bakersfield and some good food options nearby. However the hotel seems unfinished, the hot tub was not open and there were no towels at the pool area, there is only one functioning ice machine in the hotel and there are few plugs in the rroom close to the bed. The breakfast nonexistent with only danishes, fruit, yogurt, and some juice. All the hotels around it have such great breakfast options that its a better idea to walk to the Double Tree or Hilton for your morning grub. If they make the necessary improvements by improving service, having the spa open and fixing the ice machines, this could be a great hotel. For now it isn't worth a stay for more than a day and there isnt enough for families.

Room in a terrible location with a view of the wall and waste bin, on the ground floor, very damp and smelly carpet, as written in other reviews. Not chosen by us but by a travel agency in Parma.

Very clean rooms. What everyone writes about the comfortable beds is true! I slept like a log! Rooms are really big too with balcony’s overlooking the courtyard area. I was passing through but I would go out of my way to stay here again. Seemed very safe too.

According to the advertisement there is a continental breakfast, but this is not available at all, if you offer grab and go, you must also advertise it as such. The left charger for the car still appears to be broken after months and the jaccuzie was closed and unusable.

Love this Hotel have stayed in the past back again today! Quiet, clean big rooms, safe location, nice pool and gardens. Staff are friendly and helpfull.

Recently renovated hotel, close to the motorway exit and with several restaurants you can reach on foot. Quick check in. Spacious room, double bed with comfortable pillows. Coffee available 24 hours a day. The swimming pool is excellent, very large, with different levels of depth. Too bad there is no breakfast, only packaged snacks and fruit juices. Air conditioning too strong in the common area

We asked to check in earlier in half a year they wanted to charge him money for it from the moment we arrived at the hotel we felt humiliated and unwelcome because we are from Israel they tricked us with the ticket to room 5 twice they gave us tickets that don't work here I won't come back and I won't recommend to anyone The room itself is good but the service is repulsive

Don’t recommend this place cause it all depends who’s working and how they’re feeling that day. That’s going to tell how your stay is going to be. So that’s not good at all

A pretty cool alternative to the other basic chains.definitely pig with lipstick, but hard to complain for the convenience and room size (our room was downstairs, the king bed w/living room was great size and had 2 bathrooms!). Outside looks like an upgraded travelodge, inside looked newer, but still had that old kind of feet smell- but not so bad that it still bothered me after about 2min.major complaint is the access/security.the exterior rear door (freeway side) wasn't shut all the way on multiple occasions, leaving it wide open for anyone to enter the corridor, it required force to close- same with the pool gate.but the pool area was great and the other guests with kids were awesome and friendly.my kids had a blast.great location.but, no freezer and ice machine was broken.quick and easy continental brekkie and surprisingly decent coffee.

If you stay at a lot of hotels like I do it's nothing special. The breakfast is really sorry, Which in all honesty considering I stay at a lot of hotels, A good breakfast is how I decide whether i'm gonna book there again or not. To be honest best western breakfast.

Stayed here 2x with JW convention. Unfortunately BOTH times they had the pool getting worked on. First time was in 2019 and 2nd time was in 2023. Checked in and they said it would be guaranteed to be open the next day. It never opened. I'd say if you have kids, find another hotel because what are the odds they every time I stay here, the pool "needs work done" to it? Otherwise would have been great.
