I grew up in an Israeli family in L. A.and have never been satisfied with Israeli food in San Francisco until now. This is easily the best in town.

After long time that I am looking for good Mediterranean food in sf, I Finally found it.
Nice Owners, And amazing food
Best Hummus that I ate in all California.

I really enjoyed the fried items on the menu (schnitzel, falafel and fries). The hummus was creamy but not to my taste. Likewise, the pita was quite unique and different from what I expected.

Not only is the Sabich totally and completely fire! This is also, the best hummus I’ve had in the states.

First off, Sabich (they call it fried eggplant on the menu) is an Iraqi Israeli dish. You never had eggplant like this I’m telling you. It’s unique, and incredible. It also comes with a delicious savory hard boiled egg. The plate had Israeli salad, and incredible cabbage salad as well.

The hummus comes with homemade pita, and you get a big heaping bowl, I’ll got mine with falafel, which also good. The pita was warm, and bubbly and I’ll be dreaming of it for weeks.

The most unexpected thing was the dessert, they are all parve, (meaning no meat or dairy) the Malabi was delicious, so good. But the real winner is the halva mousse. I will be dreaming of if. If youve never had halva…it’s a candy sweet made from sesame seeds. This mouse is creamy rich base and has a thick coating of a halva topping that reminds me of a Carmel syrup in consistancy.

I highly recommend this place. Also as a bonus…. It’s kosher. And the prices are in line with normal SF prices, maybe even a tiny bit cheaper than some areas, and for being kosher, it’s a deal.

Great fresh, tasty authentically kosher food - falafel balls were crispy and hummous tasted just made - will definitely keep coming back

Excellent hot and crispy schnitzel was delicious and fun after a long time without finding meat food

Their entrees are underwhelming; schnitzel way too greasy & overpriced. Pita bread is flavorless, way too chewy & probably microwaved. Stick with hummus & falafel and take it to go; these two items are actually very good here. Very slow service.

It’s been closed all 3 times I’ve gone during the open hours posted on their website. No idea.

Edit in response to the owner's comment: Thanks for responding; I went last Sunday (Oct 1) at around 2pm, and two Fridays earlier this year both at around 1pm.

We used the restaurant's site for a delivery. Food arrived cold and tasteless.the order was incorrect (water instead of pomegranate juice, really). Hummus is decent and falafel is good but we will skip it next time. Disappointing.

I loved their location in SOMA before it closed. Bread and Hummus was amazing, but for some reason they don't freshly cut the shawarma off the spit, instead keeping a large amount of lukewarm chicken that they then reheat on the flat top.

WHY? WHY GO THROUGH ALL THE EFFORT TO MAKE ROTISSERIE AND THEN LEAVE IT COLD AND UNDERCOOKED?

Seriously, owners: PLEASE have employees cut fresh meat off the rotisserie. If I want reheated chicken I can go to every other diner in SF, why do israeli food half-assed like this?

It may have the look of a 'fast food's but I assure you it's anything but. I showed up a little early meeting a friend and they were totally cool and understanding even though they were busy. When it came time to order and it took a few min. They said, and I quote 'perfection takes time'. I got crispy ck salad, my friend had a stuffed pita. I wanted to eat both. I only withheld the 5 stars because last time I got the ck. Salad I could cut it with the plastic fork, last night maybe a little on the crispy side but the flavor was still there. My friend and I inadvertently closed the place down, you know how it gets when you have great conversation, not a peep from the staff no ' hey we're closing' they just asked us if we needed anything else and let us enjoy a breezy Richmond SF night. Going back first opportunity.

Hummus as a main dish is pretty weird, but eggplant salad is amazing!
The place overall is not welcoming, ordering takeout makes more sense

Excellent hummus, so creamy and tasty! Excellent falafels. Excellent exploded eggplant salad. Excellent fresh baked pita, soft and fluffy and hot out of the oven. I would come here every day if this place were in my home town!

Got the tel aviv plate. It was okayish, with the fried eggplant being way too greasy, and the rest of the stuff being more or less flavorless. Only the fries and hummus were good. It would also have been nice to receive more than one pita bread. The food prep also took a good 20 minutes.

Amazing food and large dishes.
Great service from the guy. Only downside is that is a bit pricey- but the food worth it!
Best Kosher food in SF.

This was our favorite kosher spot in San Francisco. The hummus is among the best I've had outside of Israel. The schnitzel was extra crispy in the best way.

Another delicious visit to Hummus Bodega. This time for a Kebab Pita Sandwich.

Always better when visiting with friends too.

One thing to note is the homeless encampment on the sidewalk at the corner of their building. Not a great experience outside at the street tables. But just move inside and you'll be fine.

Service was as expected and good.

The menus this time was poor. Why? Just slap your palm over most items because they weren't available. No falafel for lunch? Sad. No Shashuka at all? Almost a sin! Fortunate for me I am omnivorous.

But don't let the possible menu dings dissuade you from a visit. Hummus Bodega serves us good Kosher food, for what's left on the menu that they can still make and serve.
