J & M's Family Restaurant, Escondido CA

First off the star rating is based on just the food. The staff and especially our waitress was great and attentive and very welcoming.

The food was just okay. I got the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and veggies (carrots & broccoli). My husband got the chicken fried steak with the potatoes and veggies.

He said my chicken tasted better than his beef and the broccoli felt way over cooked and looked old, the carrots were so so.

The disappointment was the mashed potatoes, they tasted just like Idahoan Instant Mashed Potato. I’m pretty sure the gravy is also from a package instead of freshly made.

This place is great for breakfast and they have great carrot cake. I’m hoping with the new ownership they will change to fresh food and not instant stuff that I wouldn’t even make at home. But I do want to reiterate that our waitress was really nice and attentive!

Excellent place for breakfast, lunch or dinner, INCREDIBLE, WONDERFUL staff.
DELICIOUS food, portions are quite large.
A very cordial, respectful and very familiar atmosphere, without a doubt a place that I love to go to every chance I have.
Personal recommendation, the omelettes are very delicious

J&Ms Family Restaurant has the BEST French Toast in Escondido… in the County of San Siego They are my favorite because they are classic, the way my mom used to make homemade french toast. I LOVE and appreciate their home-cooked style. They have many of my favorites foods like chilaquiles, fish and fries, Alfredo pasta with shrimp or chicken, and desserts! The battered fish is absolutely the best, super fresh and crispy. The fresh and warm Cinnamon Rolls are to die for! Better than donuts! The hosts, managers, and cooks are all very attentive and warm. It really fells like home, family. Super clean Restrooms Love the booth seating space: Its private with nice window views. They have a private indoor space to host very large groups for birthdays! And also a beautiful outdoor patio I would want to host a birthday in the future.

If you think the photos of the dishes look good, the food tastes better. The servers are friendly and the cooking is exceptional. We love to go here for breakfast any day of the week. You’re guaranteed to see a room full of J&M’s fans! We loved the tender packages and the non-traditional dishes. Everything is cooked the way it should be and the great flavor is the proof.

I didn't really like this place! In hot rainy day my family and I decided to relax and have fun in this Restaurant. But we were absolutely dissapointed. The staff was so rude with guests, and what about the food - it was awful. I ordered a piece of meat, and it was overcooked. Our table was covered with crumbs.

This is the place we’ve been looking for! After The Wagon Wheel closed down (off Mission and Center City) we have been wanting a yummy family restaurant nearby and happened upon this little gem. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was easy with our two loud kids. Our server, Kimberly, was attentive, sweet and had a smile the entire service. The proprietor came to our table to say hi. The only thing I would gripe about is the food prices (but nowadays everything is expensive). We will definitely be back. My two kids had pancakes (and wouldn’t stop talking about how delish they were) my husband and I each had a burger, fries/onion rings and a small salad.

I always drive by here and my husband and I decided to stop by for lunch on a whim! First impressions was the interior was a little dated, but it was really clean. I didn’t get the sticky maple syrup seat feel like I get at Denny’s. Service was great and the prices looked pretty good too. My biggest issue was the food. I ordered the ground beef steak with gravy and onions on top and my husband ordered the meatloaf. The ground beef steak was REALLY bland, like it just tasted like cooked ground beef. Not even adding salt would make it better. The gravy on top tasted like it came from a package because it tasted really similar to the package gravy I use at home. I returned the ground beef steak because it just wasn’t enjoyable to eat. The waitress was very nice and took it back and took it off our bill. I instead shared some of my husband’s meatloaf which also needed salt, but it at least had other seasoning in it. I get the feeling this is more of a breakfast place, but if a dish isn’t good don’t put it on the menu. To me, if I can cook something on par or better than what I order, then it’s not worth going to. That was our impression after eating at J&M’s.

My 3yo daughter and I chose here for waffles (she loves them) I ordered and our waitress offered a fresh cinnamon roll, and she said they're made fresh, and WOW! This place has fresh food, in hoise made treats and that cinnamon roll was huge, fresh and delicious.whenever we're in the area, WE'RE COMING BACK!

We were at the cage 8pm Sunday. They were a bit understaffed. Everyone was very pleased with dinner. I ordered the rib eye Sunday special. It was juicy and tender. Loved it. The wife had the Franciscan sandwich and it looked very good. The staff was very personable. The gumbo was bland for me, but my companions enjoyed theirs. The atomosphere is pleasant and clean but basic.

First visit at this restaurant was today with my granddaughter. I had a taco salad which was larger than I expected, (with plenty of sliced guacamole!). My granddaughter had fruit and half a grilled cheese sandwich which she enjoyed. Our waitress along with who I think was the manager were very pleasant. The atmosphere has a 50's feel.
We were blessed to have another customer to pay for our meal!

So that put the cherry on top of our visit!

It was good. We just had breakfast and it was everything I could ask for. Great service. Our server was very attentive and friendly.

The food was great. The only thing is the price is high. If you so get anything, get the cinnamon roll.it's delicious

Very comfortable, friends & family, setting. Prompt service with wonderful waitresses whose memory of large orders is impeccable from waters to desserts. You leave with a smile on your face, a warm heart, and a happy belly!
