Kalahi Bakery, Walnut CA

I have heard about this bakery from my Filipino friends many times. My friends always order a party tray of fried bananas. I decided to pay a visit.
My friend and I bought 5 different desserts, and they are all pretty good.

The big baseball-like friend coconut balls were my favorite. 4 in one skewer. (Sorry I don't know the name.) It's crunchy outside with a thin layer of sugar coating, so it won't be soggy even when it's cooled down. Inside is the chewy coconut, the texture is like Boba.

Fried Banana: This is wrapped with spring roll skin and deep-fried. It also has a thin layer of sugar coating. The tartness of the banana filling and the sweet and crunchy skin is the perfect combination.

Ube rice cake, sell-by small box: The texture is chewy but not with a strong Ube taste.

Bamboo cup rick cake, sell-by big box: this cup cake's cup is bamboo leaves. So these rice cakes have the aroma of bamboo leaves. The texture is more like a honeycomb cake but chewier.

Halo Halo (drink) : This drink is so colorful, but not my favorite. I was expecting to have a coconut milk base drink, but it's a condensed milk base drink. Inside has cut papaya pieces and some jello-like stuff. It's not bad, but I prefer coconut milk drinks better.

這家菲律賓人其實這家是老店了。幾乎問菲律賓人都會知道。每次party只要有菲律賓朋友，都會吃到這家訂的炸香蕉。
下面講一下我今天試的甜點
先申明一下我甜點的名字都亂取的，因為也看不懂，但是會盡力忠於原味，所以去買不會買錯)

超大顆圓圓炸椰子球 (4顆一串) : 這個因為很大一顆，看起來炸的就很好吃。外皮是炸的脆脆的再裹上糖衣，裡面是像波霸那種口感的椰子球，QQ的。這是我的最愛。
紫色的發粿 (一盒賣) : 樣子就真的是像發粿，但口感卻也是QQ的。紫色貌似是Ube，但吃不出來。但是是口感好吃的發粿。

炸香蕉 (一條條賣的) : 炸香蕉是用春捲皮捲的，之後炸脆脆也裹上一層薄薄的糖衣，所以放涼了吃還是脆脆滴！這個口感已經不用說，脆脆的很香口很讚，而且甜加上帶有一點點酸味的香蕉內餡 (可能是偏綠的香蕉還是會不會是芭蕉呢? !) ，可以一次吃三條不會膩。

粽葉杯子米蛋糕: 這個顧名思義就是用粽葉做成的杯子考的米蛋糕。這裡面的口感雖然也是QQ的，但裡面的發酵貌似不同，所以有如蜂巢一樣的洞洞，像白糖糕那樣，而且帶有粽葉香。我個人覺得好吃但還是偏好脆口的東西。但這是我朋友的最愛。所以得試試才知道哪個是泥們的最愛囉！

Halo Halo (飲料甜品) : 照片五彩繽紛的，所以我跟朋友忍不住也來一杯。結果跟我預期的不同，因為我以為這會跟越南餐一樣，裡面加上五顏六色像是果凍、脆圓內類的東西。但裡面是木瓜塊啦！一塊攪了很久也化不開的紅豆團、吃起來像台灣的蜜餞四果冰那種蜜餞 (疑? 這樣會不會反而圈粉.) 最重要的白白的底不是濃濃的椰奶，而是煉奶牛奶水。這會是不愛椰奶味的人的選擇。

In terms of Filipino food authenticity, Kalahi rates 5 stars. The look and taste of their Filipino pastries and other delicacies are very good. Their Turon, in my opinion, is the best. Crispy and lightly sweet outer skin with a sweetly ripe banana inside. Because they do their offerings right, Kalahi has become very popular over the years. But as their patronage has grown, they have remained a small operation. This has resulted in their juggling of orders or worse, missed orders. It is because of this that Kalahi is not getting 5 stars. But if you're looking for authentic Filipino treats, Kalahi is the place to go. But go early.

Delicious will be back when visiting California. Still yummy waited an hour for turon so worth it.

Today was a bad day to go at the last minute.
Though it was the case, the workers were quick and efficient.

They always give your order away, no matter how long in advance you ordered. Once there, they make you wait 20 minutes to pick up the order you scheduled

Buko pie for the win! If you're Pinoy (or you lived in the Philippines long enough), you know what that is. Really good.

Crunchy sweet turon, fresh hot pan de Sal, yummy empanadas! Loads of choices for delicious Filipino merienda fare.

Good selection of Filipino sweets and pastries. Some things are a little overpriced in my opinion but that won't stop me from enjoying the quality they provide.

Nothing like GOOD filipino bakery and treats. Best Turon, babinka, pandisal and all the UBE treats in town.
They put nothing but love to all there food and treats that they sell.

The best pilipinos food esp their varieties. Desserts are amazing esp the sweet rice. Staff are very helpful and informative as well as well mannered.

Been coming here for over twelve years. I honestly can not get enough of their empanadas, and turon. Especially when they are freshly made. They have such a good recipe. I have not found any other location that is as good as here. I have bought them for my family to try multiple times. They always want me to take them a dozen of each whenever I visit.

I absolutely love this place. It is so delicious and always fresh. The turon is my favorite and also the Carioca is delicious chicharon is mouth watering.

Best Chicken Empanada this side of Los Angeles.
