$14.99 lunch bento box is deliscous and a GREAT VALUE. 18 at dinner. Crisp lettuce salad with yummy dressing, Soup, 3 pork gyoza potstickers, rice, beef terriaki very tender with carrots and zuchinni perfectly cooked and Five tempura.a big shrimp, carrot, broccoli, a mushroom, sweet potato. Clean. Eat and then grocery shop next door

I was passing through from the Bay Area looking for a chicken teriyaki lunch. Found this place along my route, being conveniently located off of the 5. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. The portions we're generous. It came with a house salad with a delicious dressing, a solid tasting miso soup, tempura vegetables and shrimp, rice, teriyaki chicken, and to my surprise three gyōza. Everything tasted great except for, ironically, the teriyaki chicken. I wasn't crazy about the sauce or how it cooked. This dish needs some work, but considering everything else tasted great, I have hopes the chef can make it happen.

Wow! My wife and I came here on our anniversary and it was delightful. San prepared our entire meal himself with no assistance in less than 15 minutes. Our table was full of fresh tasty sushi and hand made potstickers. The store was clean and beautifully decorated. He treated us as his guests, he lit up the runway with something from his personal collection, as far as I know It is the only one in existence.

We're new to Redding from SF Bay Area. This is the best Sushi we've found here in our 8 months. They've got a few unique flavors just as many places in the Bay. The owner/operator is really nice and they've been here since 1992. We've tried a lot of Sushi here and we've been fairly disappointed tbh, we're so happy to have found Kampai.

The sushi was great! Definitely try the food. They need a good ventilation system in place to get the grease smell from the air.

Server was gang, food crisp af, there was a crunch with every bite. Did lack some seasoning but beggars can’t be choosers.

Popped in on a Saturday afternoon. Only one guy working. One guy taking orders, waiting tables, making and serving the food. 4 of us and we each ordered one roll of sushi and one lunch meal. Not super busy. Took about an hour and a half to get our food. I feel bad leaving a minimal star review but that was awful planning on whoever owns this establishment. Sushi rolls were amazing! Meal was blah. I'm sure when they're staffed correctly the experience might be different but super off putting when you're popping in for a quick meal on a road trip.

Food very slow. Had family to spend time with, so wait was o.k. If by myself, I would have walked out! Spicy dragon roll not available. I had teriyaki salmon.

I am nee to the area, have heard bad things about this place. But I LOVE IT. The food is excellent. The owner -chef served us and anticipated our needs. Such a cute and comfortable environment. I highly recommend giving them a chance.

I tried this place multiple times over the past few years and the food is delicious, the, but I've never once gotten to eat what I ordered. They always get my order wrong after 45 minutes of waiting and I always accept the wrong dish rather than wait 45 more minutes. I thought it might be a dine in issue with the workers stressed about getting orders done quickly, so last time I ordered ahead for pick up to give them all the time they needed. I arrived when the owner called to say my order was ready, but then I had to wait another 20 minutes while he berated the chef for not having the last item of my order completed before he called me.

With how rude the owner is, and how incapable this place is of serving me the correct dish, I will not be going back unless there's a change of ownership.

This is a family run sushi restaurant that consistently delivers great quality. There are lots of menu options available.

I don't really like to leave negative reviews. But this experience wasn't the best. I took my daughter out for sushi and our calamari tasted like burnt and old oil and everythibg my daughter ordered (a bento box) was bland and kinda gross. Even her soda didn't taste right. She didnt eat much of it.when my sushi came out it smelt ROTTEN. I couldn't figure out the smell was. But it was something in the food. I still tried to eat it and the sushi itself tasted fine but I ended up just not finishing the rest. I'm pretty sure it was the ginger but I'm not sure. I'm not the type to make a fuss so we paid and left. I feel like I should of said something but I just felt really uncomfortable It just wasn't a good experience. Luckily we didn't get sick. The man who greeted us was kind and friendly. And I just kinda felt bad. I'm new to the area so I didn't know if they were just falling on hard times. But it's just felt sad. I will not be returning. I was just surprised at the quality especially for how much it ended up costing. Which really is a bummer because the photos looked amazing and I have read other reviews of people having great experiences.
