Katana Sushi & Japanese Restaurant reviews
17The place is nice and clean. The food was great, to be honest better than other fancy places or very well known restaurants in San Diego. I lived in Asia for almost 6 years and I am very acquainted with Japanese food and I can even cook it. The food is not going to disappoint. I highly recommend this place
Let me start by saying the service was wonderful. The sashimi was fresh and delicious. And the hot saki, hot and perfect. Everything else was not. It seems the premium rolls are made from old fish, rice and seaweed. My boyfriend and I ate here on a Sunday night and was disappointed with our meal.
My advice, avoid everything except the sashimi.
The owner refused to sell me a side of rice with my meal because it wasn't profitable for him
Ordered a couple of rolls I forgot what the name of it was but it had heel in it on the special and they were $12 each. Actually not bad I would say that this is a good solid middle of the road sushi place with a nice atmosphere not a great location but once you know it's there it's there so eat up.
Mediocre, average American Japanese food. They also serve some Korean dishes. Too expensive for such quality. Would not recommend coming here, unless you are super desperate for Japanese food. Sushi is so-so.
The food is nothing to write home about, the fish was somewhat dry.
The waiters might have been Chinese and hardly spoke English, but were overall pretty fast to serve the food.
The tables are a bit small for numerous groups.
Overall an ok experience for a mall center sushi
In a town of great sushi this is just not good. Mass produced. Over sauced. Just lots of salt and goo. Skip this.
Tonkotsu Ramen
Service: friendly but inexperienced. They had to ask to confirm order several times and didn’t know the menu well. They placed the food items to the wrong people when delivered.
Food Review:
- The egg was HARD boiled completely and should’ve been runny.
-The toppings (mushroom, red onion, cabbage) were odd an inauthentic
-The soup base was rich, but not of bone broth but rather chicken flavored top ramen flavoring
-chashu was more like bbq. No rich-melt in your mouth texture in the meat.
-tonkotsu is usually with firm round noodles. These noodles melted in your mouth and so they were too over cooked.
Had a good experience here. Quick service and lots to pick from the extensive menu. I had the Alaskan roll and it was really good. Not a deal breaker but they don't have a brown rice option to substitute the white rice. But only have the brown rice as a side.
The food was terrible. The fish is not fresh. I have never had chicken teriyaki this bad in my whole life. The chicken was chicken breast shaped like jerky, hard, dry and tasteless. The service was slow and not well trained staff. They were not that busy but they seemed overwhelmed. Korean owned Japanese restaurant, not authentic at all.
Overall, quite nice. Not the best sushi, nor the best service. But clean, friendly, and with good sized portions.
We use to visit often but the service really went down, bad service and customer service, definitely our last time in this place!
Went to Katana on a Sunday evening at 5: 45PM. No problem parking. We were seated within 5 mins. The restaurant looks about 80% full. They have good business on a Sunday evening.
Service: 2 stars. We ordered our dinner and got our drinks within reasonable time. Strangely, the waitress thought that we can’t finish what we ordered. Our food took quite some time to arrive at the table. The table behind us came later but got their food 15 minutes earlier than us. The waitress never bother to come back to our table to 1) refill hot water for the hot tea nor water glasses; 2) check on us if we wanted to order more. We actually haven’t eaten much all day and wanted to order more.
Food: 3.5 stars. The Katana boat C: the sushi rice was soft and fresh. The sashimi was fresh but was cut thinner compared to another local sushi restaurant.
The overall experience at Katana was just OK at best.
Excellent non-rice sushi rolls! I have tried non-rice sushi rolls at many different restaurants and they all seem to be flavorless. The non-rice sushi rolls at Katana have the *best* flavor combo. This is my new fave sushi restaurant! Also service was excellent. There are many comfy booths to sit at and we got our sushi very quickly. I had been in this mall and have walked by this restaurant several times never knowing how good the sushi is here!
If you are looking to satisfy your sushi craving and at the same time not make a dent in your wallet, this is the place for you. They offer many rolls at half price throughout the day. Some of them are quite good for the price. I was there last week after not frequenting the place for a while. Some of the rolls we ordered were tasty! You do have to remind them to go easy on the mayonnaise souce because they tend to smother everything with it.
Best sushi rice I've ever had. Delicious tender sashimi. My family all loved it. I dined and also ordered for pickup. Everything was amazingly delicious.
