Kimpton Canary Hotel reviews
19I just stopped in to see my sister and brother in law. It was a great visit. The place is beautiful. The rooms are lovely. The lobby is nice.
First room standard size, chipping paint and old, second room was suite - super large. Front desk staff not great - one person kind of creepy. Oddly the hotel did not provide housekeeping - even after calling twice. So room although large remained uncleaned.
Very nice Hotel but the front desk service was terrible to say the least. Not worthy of the Kimpton name.
Great central location in downtown Santa Barbara. The room was clean, spacious, and had a decent view of the happenings. The rooftop pool is small but there is a great view of the mountains. The sunrise and sunset are also beautiful from the roof.
Close to a grocery store, CVS, and a dispensary. State street is around the corner. There are tons of restaurants and bars within a 5-10 minute walk. Paul is valet/bell, was great and provided fabulous recommendations.
I gave 4 starts because the onsite menu was very limited. I didn’t try any food onsite. Some of the staff were okay not exemplary.
I remember this place when it was great. What a let down it has been. When they mean 4pm check in; it’s a buzzer beater.
Secondly, realizing they were severely understaffed, I offered to take my luggage up. They said the valet needs to because I checked it in. 30 minutes later after 2 phone calls, I got it.
The furniture is “beat up from the street up. ”
And here’s the punchline… Over a thousand a night!
Terrible. I been here twice already and who ever handles reservations is completely unprofessional. For starters we had to wait for our room to be ready. We waited two hours on the rooftop, missed our spa appt, and the woman handling reservations HUNG UP ON ME. She never called me back. I called again, and no one answered. This place is ridiculous. We came for a wedding and the staff here is ridiculously unprofessional.
We started our PCH drive with two nights in Santa Barbara. Chose the Kimpton Canary because we like their properties (recently visited their Salt Lake and Manchester, VT locations), and wanted a hotel near State Street for shopping and restaurants. Very pleased with the hotel, service and enjoyed watching sunsets over the mountains from the sixth floor pool area. They also have a fireplace on that level.
The valets (Paul, Emerson, Sebastian and Jackson) were great. Offered advice on restaurants and things to do. The hotel includes use of Gold’s Gym (confession: we don’t work out at home so vacation doesn’t stand a chance. Our exercise was walking 1,000 steps to McConnell’s Ice Cream for the Banana & Salted Caramel in a waffle cone). The rooms are large and beautiful. The shower was a tub style with a head similar to a rain shower but not my favorite. They have a restaurant on site (Finch & Fork) but we opted to eat at Chase on State as well as the Boathouse on the beach. We did eat breakfast at a quaint place called the Scarlett Begonia. Would recommend this Kimpton and looking forward to the rest of the PCH and Yosemite.
Everything was good however check in was a drama and it just wasn't what you need after a 5 hour drive. Over an hour later than expected
I booked two rooms here for a birthday getaway. Everyone in my party was pleased with the room product. The property is beautiful and centrally located to a lot such as shopping, dining, etc. There’s a lot of charm to the rooms with the Juliet balconies. This is definitely my favorite hotel in Sta. Barbara. Kaylyn, Bobby, and Grant at the desk were great.
Their very nice and helpful. The valet service area is overwhelming. I was delivering food and was stuck in between cars for over five minutes and the valet on hand wasn't too worried for me. He saved himself at the last minute when I was literally about to explode in anger and he finally moved the car in front of me. They should have two valets on hand for busy nights not much the guy could of done by himself.
Not really any bang for your buck. On a weekday, the standard King room is $350/night and that seems relatively reasonable for a hotel of this calibre. However, weekend rates are almost doubled and we paid nearly $700 for a 1-night stay (that's Ritz territory). Regretfully, this hotel does not hold up to that kind of price. While the location is top-notch (super walkable downtown), the room was doing little to justify its $700/night price tag. Bed was big and comfortable, but furnishings, fixtures, bathroom and mostly everything was outdated and showing significant signs of wear and tear. While the circa-1999 TV in the bathroom was an intriguing artifact from the last millennium, it did not distract from the fact that the bathroom is in a desperate need of a remodel.
Unless you teleported to the hotel or possess the ability to fly, you will pay an extra $36/night for parking. Alternatively, you can battle it out for metered street parking and drag your luggage to your luxury 4-star hotel.
Overall, if you want to be as central as possible and explore SB on foot, this is a good choice if you can snag a weekday rate and plan to spend most of the day out and about. Just don't expect serious luxury.
The Canary has done a great job of using their roof area for covid compliant outdoor dining. The space heaters were great for me, and when my wife asked if they had lap blankets blankets were provided. The food was great, per usual. I especially liked the salted Carmel milkshake and the church bites. Yes, I ordered two desserts.
We just checked in today, and I have to tell you - it was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. The team here is absolutely phenomenal. From the valets, to the front desk, to the managers, everything was incredible. On top of all of that, the room was gorgeous. They also treated our dog with the utmost care. I cannot recommend this hotel enough!
Just beautiful! Treatment is exceptional. Rooftop pool at night is a dream. Cleanliness is extremely obvious. Highly recommend.
This is a beautiful hotel with the only real fine dining restaurant in town. The bar is gorgeous, and staffed with a deeply professional team. I would not dream of staying anywhere else in town. Downside? It's not on the beach. Do you care about that? Really? Why not stay here away from the tourists, and take a nice walk to the beach instead?
This place is remarkable without being pretentious. I was debating writing a review at all because I would like to keep it to myself.
Great hotel. Friendly staff. Was upgraded to a very nice corner junior suite as an IHG platinum. If you have a car, I’d suggest the parking garage right next to the hotel instead of valet. It’s much cheaper.
As a former hotel general manager myself, I can wholeheartedly endorse this property. Top rate cleanluness and condition, prompt room service, and a great location. We did have a small problem while we were here, and the staff handled it professionally. This is the best measure of service at a hotel, and in this area, the hotel excelled.
Take it from someone in the industry, this is a great place to stay.
The hotel is beautifully designed and room is quite comfortable. My only complaint was that it was quite warm, at night, in the room even with air conditioner set at 65 degrees.
