K&L Wine Merchants, San Francisco CA

I came to K& L Wine seeking a bottle of rice wine and plus some ppl I know recommended this place. When I walked in the building, I was immediately asked if I had anything to pick up, which I declined. I asked the gentleman at the cashier if they had any rice wine. He began huffing and rolling his eyes and told me they only have sake and had this energy to not want to help me at all. I walked to the back where the fridge was and spotted the guard walking towards the front but nodding his head to something that was behind me as if the person up front was signaling him to watch out for me.

I ignored it and continued shopping. While I was in the fridge looking at sake, the guard was about a few feet watching me but not anyone else but just me. I left the sake and looked at the tequila. I saw something that I wanted but needed to get a basket because I wanted to get a few bottles of wine. I picked up a bottle and placed it at the front and asked where the baskets were and were told where they were. When I went back to place the bottle in the basket, one of the other cashiers told me they will hold on to it. I declined and said I will place it in my basket because I'm still shopping. He insisted that he keep it at the front with him. I said okay and walked towards the red wine area. As I'm in the wine area, two of the staff (1 female and an older man) were around watching me and the guard a row behind, I felt sick to my stomach and racially profiled because I was a black man trying to spend my money in this establishment. I felt gross and I left. Not a moment or more, I stepped foot out the door and heard “were good! ” SO FREAKING DISGUSTING AND I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. This place needs some training on how to treat customers, especially people of color.terrible!

Big wine store in San Francisco! Hugh inventory and good selection! Parking convenient and staffs are friendly! Only minus point is that they do not have too many top wives (first growth) in stock! Recommended

Best extensive wine shop in San Francisco. Knowledgeable, helpful staff. Web site is great, maybe too easy to order! An adult candy store. They hold for pickup or delivery.

Whatever your budget k&l staff will recommend a great wine. Subscribe to their emails. You wont be sorry.

I love this place. They have a great selection of wine and spirit, a friendly staff and a webpage that let's you sort wine by price and rating. Yeah, I think I will grab a bottle of the Pinot Noir under $20 with a 90+ rating from Wine Spectator.

Today I went to buy a few Bordeaux' and was assisted by "John". He not only found exactly the five I wanted - at the advertised price online - but recommended a couple extra. All were within my price bracket; he did not try to oversell me. Exemplary knowledge and service w/out pretentiousness. Commendable, I'll be back. PV

Been shopping here for over a decade and it's still the best place in SF for wine and liquor. I've purchased in store, had them ship, I even used them for my wedding. Love K&L

Wow! What a selection. There was an employee at the door to show you right to your purchase and prices were very reasonable. The store was modern and clean looking. I would definitely recommend

Wide selection of alcohol from the hard to the classic thru the simple. I love this place always great customer service with curbside convenience but u will want to browse the selection in store for new wines the staff is very knowledgeable! Highly recommend

Cool wine and spirits shop that has a good selection of almost everything. The individual name Scott was very friendly and helpful. I was able to find a bottle that I liked and hopefully will be able to come here again next time I'm in the area.

Tl;dr - The best neighborhood alcohol shop a San Franciscan could ask for! Reasonable prices, great service, and wide selection right downtown!

Service - Friendly and knowledgeable service.

Parking - Parking is easy in their private lot, and they also do car-side pickup for online orders.

Prices - Prices are consistently reasonable - not usually the cheapest, but not overpriced either. If you want run of the mill alcohol, you'll definitely find it cheaper at Costco, and maybe Bevmo.

Selection - But K&L has a much wider selection, and you'll get rare items for much less than other specialty stores. They have an especially large wine and whiskey selection. They also have a small selection of glasses and accessories, but that's not their specialty.

It may not be the cheapest, but the service and selection are very good. If there’s anything specific you’re looking for or have any questions the staff are very friendly and also very knowledgeable.
