La Costa Family Dental and Implant Center, Carlsbad CA

I am very disappointed that I have to do this but I wanted to warn others. I paid my co-pay in full after my service. Not long after I received a bill with no explanation other than I needed to pay it. I said there must be a mistake but still the bills kept coming. I told them how I am unemployed now due to an autoimmune I found out I have and do not have an income. They could careless they wanted their $30 something they strongly insisted I owed them. They must be financially hurting because they sent it to collections for now $60 something. How sad, that they would be so uncompationate and desperate. I will keep you all in my prayers. I would not recommend La Costa Family Dental after this experience.

Best dental I have ever had. I am 55 years old and over my entire life of other dentists La Costa Family is TOP NOTCH. I will stay with them as long as they are around.

Been going here for years. Very happy with the doctors and staff. Had a recent emergency and they took great care of me.

I was nervous about having a new dental hygienist at my last cleaning at La Costa Family Dental, but Jayme did a great job. Dr. Dharia reminded me to schedule an appointment for a needed crown. About a week later I met with Dr. Jason Garland to replace an old crown. He and his assistant (sorry I forgot her name) both did a wonderful job keeping me calm and comfortable. I returned a few hours later and my new crown was ready to be fitted. So much better than the old days when you had to wait for days to have the crown made in an off-site lab. Dr. Garland carefully fitted the crown to make sure there were no high spots and that my bite was correct.

I will try to keep my review to-the-point. After a month of struggle and having given many opportunities for this office to redeem itself for leaving a bad taste in our mouth, this is it. I wanted to share our experience, so every potential patient/customer can be aware.

Positive first:
- Hygienist is probably the best from all the ones we've come across in the area. Very thorough and friendly, but it doesn't offset the below experience.

Negative:
- The front office / management is dishonest and rude at times (not only to us), see details below.

Longer story:
- My wife was asked to pay upfront for deep cleaning (was not provided with a breakdown of service). She knew it was covered by our insurance and asked to confirm. She was told it wasn't. She then paid, (mis-) trusting this was the case.
- Immediately after deep cleaning, she was then given the breakdown, with it saying the deep cleaning was covered, while only irrigation wasn't. She realized she had paid $250+ for a couple sprays of anti-bacterial mouth wash.
- She complained, said she would have refused irrigation and just went with the covered services, office manager said: "Why are you asking me this, you've already signed and approved this service". (when no detail was given about what they are charging her for, and they made it sound like she was paying for the deep cleaning)
- After she got home, she was very annoyed, wrote an email to them. A few back and forth exchanges with no resolution - not even an apology or offer to rectify the situation.
- We emailed and requested for a full refund and requested to speak to the doctor/owner to resolve this. He never bothered or have the courtesy to call us back.
- Instead, a customer service lady called and said that she talked to the doctor and agreed to refund AFTER they get the insurance claim (but why? Thought it wasn't covered.)
- A couple weeks later, we got a partial refund on our card, so we called to ask why. Apparently the insurance did partially cover irrigation (!) This raised another, more serious red flag
- So, if we hadn't complained, they would have gotten the insurance money AND our portion.getting paid both ways.

To date, after over a month, we never got the differences back after numerous exchanges (promise for full refund) and more excuses (e.g, can't refund the rest with credit card, etc.) No words from them from the last email sent.

Really, it's not the money, but the principle of this all. The run-arounds and just terrible, terrible customer experience.

The last straw was us finding out that they got insurance payment while telling the patient that services aren't covered. This place has some serious ETHICS issue.

I’m from Phoenix, Arizona on a 5 week vacation. I decided might as well do my teeth cleaning while I am out here. I can’t not say enough good things about this place. This is a great place for people with dental anxiety. From the front desk woman, to the hygienist, and dentist; they all act extremely empathetic. Everyone is truly caring and going above and beyond to provide quality care. I think by hygienists name was Jen, but she was so sweet and caring. Thank you

This location gives fast and comfortable cleanings, always well organized and on time. The staff is great too.

In town and experienced a dental emergency, they accommodated me immediately and made the experience so much better than literally every other dentist i’ve been too. They really provide great care.

The text hotline was excellent, very helpful and they got me in quick to remove wisdom teeth that were causing problems. Highly recommended!
