Lake O'Neill Campground reviews
17We always enjoy ourselves when we are here. The campground appears to under new management and it is evident by the cleanliness. The staff provides excellent customer service. The restrooms and showers are clean. During the summer it can be warm but it is a 15 minute drive to Camp Pendleton Del Mar Beach. There are various water sport activities at Lake O'Neill, such as fishing, paddle boats, miniature golf, and much more. Several large playgrounds with jungle gyms that keep children entertained. Walking trails around the lake and very dog friendly. Bring your bikes and sporting equipment. Enjoy.
I love the view of the Lake. If you choose you can walk around the lake. I prefer to sit around the camp fire and relax!
A walk under the shady canopy of trees alongside the lake makes this campground special. Only a qualifying military ID gives access to it though.
Beautiful, well kept, small lake area on Camp Pendleton for camping and bringing your RV. They only have a handful of sites with a full hookup so be prepared to haul your shower water depending on your tank capacity.
Great Park. The area was clean, it's a large space for multiple kids to play. The soft rubber under the turf is great too for those clusmier little ones.
They cleaned out all the trees on the west side of the lake. Now there is no shade there. I wasn't catching anything, but a bunch of kids came up and were catching lots of blue gills.good sized too. I just wish it wasn't catch and release bass here.
Pretty awesome place! They have great amenities. Clean showers and restrooms. Great place to camp with the family. Safe.
The views are decent. The playground is excellent. Bathrooms are exceptionally clean. My kids enjoyed the nature trails, the dock, and putt putt. The price is incredibly low for the amenities. We'll definitely be back.
I am an old Marine and I love to stay at Campo Neal it's right on the flight pattern the end of the runway at Marine Corp air station I think the prices are too high and they should give us all Marines a discount I have three purple hearts and I'm suffering from agent Orange and I don't have much time left but I can't seem to stay away camp Pendleton is my home I like staying there with the Marines it feels like home to me although the Marine corps has changed drastically in the last 60 years but it's the only place that feels like home to me I just have to be close to my fellow Marines I'd like to come visit with my old outfits like 2: 11 my third Marine Air Wing hmla 369 the gunfighters and forth thanks and 1.9 first.battalion 9th Marines. I guess I'm just an old Marine that wishes he could go back in time.
Getting pretty pricey to camp here now. 2 price increases in the past year with no increase in services or better campsites.
I wouldn't recommend staying at the campground if you are stuck next to a barking dog that starts barking at 6am every morning and barks all day. We tried moving but the park is completely full. The policy states that dogs are not to be left alone in the RVs. The neighbor dog is there, by himself from 6am until around 6 or 7pm, and nothing has been done about it. Other than that, the park is fine.
Great little camp ground aboard Camp Pendleton. Has laundry, restrooms, water and electric. Prices are good, and its close to the PX.
My girlfriend and I had a really good time here! My only complaint was the vast amount of swarming mosquitos. The good news was that they were only bad at night, but once we got our screen room up, it was no longer a huge issue. Just make sure you bring plenty of citronella candles and bug spray! We will definitely go back regardless because the vibe was awesome AND we met some great people and even exchanged phone numbers.
We loved camping here! The bugs were a bit of an annoyance, but the weather played a huge role in that. We'll be back
It's great if you can get the spot or close to that you actually want. Making a reservation and not knowing before you get there is a bummer. It is pleasant to be able to stay on base. So many are living in the campground now and have to change spots every 14 days just so other people can have different spots. My biggest problem right now is that when you come in the GPS sent us somewhere else. Thankfully we had been there before. We do not know what that was about. Also the road you turn in on, the sign is a few feet before it and pulling a trailer is difficult because you cannot stop on a dime. They need to move that sign back. We ended up going past and having to find a place to turn around. We watched other people do it from our site.
There are many dry campsites available for tent and RV. There are few sites that have water/electric, and only a handful full with full hook-up. This I think trims down the amount of people willing to stay here because your required to haul your waste to the dump site.
It is was enjoyable for the most part during my stay. Keep in mind this is a military installation and there are helicopters and other aircraft flying over the campsite often throughout the day and early evening; yes it will be loud. I recall reading a review complaining about that which I think is absurd considering the campsite is on a military base. There will also be sounds from explosions and gunfire; so this may not be the place for some.
Aside from that the only issue I encountered was one site running an open frame generator all day and night on one occasion.
Bathrooms are clean, incorporate shower facilities, and have a seperate room for laundry. It cost $1.25 for washing machines, and. 25 for fifteen minutes in the dryer.
There are several portable toilets throughout the site that are maintained at least once a day (basing this off of having a site next to one and seeing the company tend to it daily).
The location is ideal, it is not crowded like Del Mar beach, only a few minutes drive from the beach, and main exchange. Plenty of places to walk the dog (unlike the San Onofre RV grounds) and go on hikes.
The dry sites seem to be widely available but the vast majority of them do not have tree cover.
Sites 19 through 22 have a slope but are in a very nice location. Site 22 in my experience is a large site with shade, water/electric and is right beside a trail with a narrow view of the lake.
Good little campground for military and associated with base access. Be sure to reserve boats ahead of time if interested. Tent spots are often open, make sure to reserve trailer spots.
