Just a great barber shop. They just moved into this space so it's a bit rough around the edges but they are working hard on remodelling to make this space great. All the hair cutters are friendly, they offer shaves and wet towel treatment. Very happy with my haircut, too.

Well I'm going to assume 5 stars, I know not fair to all. I say that because I took my son in for haircut. The barber was by himself with a booked calendar for the day. I should have made an appointment. From what I saw, the place is clean, the barber was professional, and I made an appointment for the following Friday. Was friendly. Will come back for the appointment. The only part I don't care for their is no direct entrance. Have to walk through a building to get to his place. It's a building with a bunch of medical offices. It won't stop from returning, just a slight annoyance. My son is 2, so will see how he does. Myself, I just need a shave and beard trim, since I shave my own head. I am looking for a barber to take my son to on a regular basis for haircuts and a future father son dates.like mom's take daughter's to a salon. I remember my father and I going to the barber. I'm happy to see the trade still alive and well.

I traveled to Nevada City for a wedding and needed a last minute haircut. I found Lather & Steel in Grass valley, only 6 minutes from where I was staying. First of all, I took a big risk getting my haircut from anyone other than my own barber - but I can say with great satisfaction that this place did me RIGHT! Not only was it literally the best haircut I've had in I can't remember when, but the service was phenomenal. David cut my hair, a fellow Sactonian, and I felt right at home. I didn't know what to tell him other than a zero-fade and he saw that I didn't know exactly what I wanted (low/med/high, as my barber knows exactly what I tend to get and I've just forgotten over the years). I'm not from the area, but from the experience and knowledge David has - I feel like Grass Valley really has a hidden gem there in terms of haircut and style. I've also never had a "vacuum" which was perfect since I was going to a wedding - no hairs lingering around, no itching. I mean even after the haircut he took a straight razor and cleaned up the back and sides, threw a hot towel on, and activated an electronic back massager whilethe towel sat. Seriously one of the best experiences I've had an it's not even in my hometown. I'm more than half-tempted to take the hour and a half drive ever couple of weeks to get another haircut. 10/10 David is a true artist and easily one of the best barbers in Northern California.

Best barbers in the county. I walk out of the shop looking and feeling like a million bucks every time. My Mrs.is always very happy too.

Worst haircut I’ve ever received. Doesn’t know how to fade. Doesn’t know how to execute a proper slickback. Still had hair on my neck and around my ears. Faded the back of my head two inches above the sides. I gave them one star because I couldnt give them no stars at all.

Not really a place for women. Went on a friend's recommendation not knowing that they mostly do men. Didn't do what I asked and barely did a trim and changed me$35. Friendly and diligent but it really is a men's place.

Superior barber shop experience and it works for me because I can make an appointment (and their app even shoots me a notification and then a reminder the day before). I got Brentton Yu the first time I tried the place and I like the new look he gave me while keeping my cut short, like I prefer, and cutting good lines for my beard. He's good with the straight razor. I've stayed with Brentton because he's done great, but it seems the other barbers in the shop are tops, too.
