Le Central reviews
17Delightful little cafe that could be tucked away in Paris somewhere. Really loved it. The cassoulet was lovely. Mondays are 50% of bottles of wine.
Went for the Valentine's Day Prix Fixe Dinner. 4 choices for appetizers. My husband had the Escargot and I had the Shrimp in Sauce. I should have taken notes as the sauce was exquisite. Entrees we selected were a New York steak and stuffed sole. Again delighted with the selection. I paired my dish with the recommended white wine, delicious and buttery. Deserts were a chocolate flan and poached pear, paired with a Sandeman port. It was a wonderful and romantic dinner for this couple 39 years married.
I went today with some friends to celebrate some achievements and I cut my tongue with a piece of glass inside my boeuf bourguignon.
They only discount 3 plates from our order and they said sorry.
My throat hurts and I left all the napkin with blood. Didnt complain much because we were celebrating and I didn't want to ruin the moment.
This is something that I never thought in my life, a $50 dollar plate with glass.
Perfectly fine French fare but nothing particularly noteworthy. Service was ok, and it did feel like a proper brasserie.
Food is fine but overpriced. Service was mixed - the host would not give us a table even though we had a reservation, but the bartender was nice. Overall I would not go again as there are far better French places in the city.
Rude manager, my friend and I got turned away from the door (after the MD said we may sit at the bar and wait for a table) just 12 minutes from the evening session beginning at 4pm because they "had to clear out the lunch guests", even though there were plenty of empty tables and empty seats at the bar. So we spent good money round the corner.
Small french restaurant within easy walking distance from several hotels. We stopped in our first night in SF. The group had the crab and oysters for appetizers. Entries were great and paired well with our wine.
First time visiting, and we were very satisfied. Our waiter was great and the food was amazing. The Cassoulet was outstanding, and the duck was juicy with crispy skin. The Ratatouille was savory and delicious. Great place we will be back!
We went to Le Central for lunch, the service was really really bad. No plates, no silverware. We eventually got frozen bread after asking for it multiple times. We sat for 1.5 hours and we were only served soup. We asked for the check and left. Not even an apology from the staff.
We were hungry on a slow Tuesday night and after being turned away from another French place that closed early, Maria welcomed us in and took impeccable care of us! Salads were tasty, the frites were salty perfection, cassoulet was soul warming but the stand out was the beef Bourgogne!
We arrived late and they only had a few tables left eating but they graciously seated us.our waitress Maria was amazing.so kind and welcoming because we felt bad for arriving so late. Luckily the food was perfect and fresh. Highlights were the escargot, onion soup, cassoulet, and bourguignon.highly recommend for a classic french meal.
Went to Le Central for a birthday dinner partly because most local restaurants were closed on a Monday night. And partly because it was ONCE a great old-school restaurant.
Our meal was DREADFUL - almost everything VERY salty, badly prepared and presented, and VERY expensive.
Will NEVER return.
This is a great traditional French Restaurant. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.the food was excellent. Although this is shown as expensive, we didn't find it expensive for SF.and on a par price wise with the less good Cafe Bastille nearby.
This is a magical place if you enjoy French food it has a great ambience and the person that always serves us Scott Farnsworth is so amazingly wonderful he's on top of things he's sensitive and kind and such a wonderful person to interact with he just makes the experience even better. It has been over 20 years I've been coming to this restaurant and the food never disappoints from French onion soup to chocolate mousse it's also excellent and again a big shout out to Scott who always make sure that we have everything and that the timing is right is very attentive and such a joy whenever this special occasion this is where we come wouldn't go anywhere else it's just worth it
Excellent French food with a (Arabic?) twist, great cocktails, super service. What’s not to like?
Oldest bistro in San Francisco having opened in 1974. Their cassoulet has been served from the beginning
