Le Gourmet ( French cuisine) reviews
13Clumsy service and half hearted effort all around for such and expensive place. Went here for my birthday dinner back in December of last year. We were one of 3 tables in the restaurant. We had a reservation and they knew it was a birthday. Took forever to get served and they botched every specification they of both our orders. Didn’t touch the dish for 15 minutes waiting to ask it be fixed. They apologized the dish sucked but that was it. At this point instead of demanding it be removed from the bill I just left. I’d expect the servers to be more perceptive and prepared in a place that seems so nice.
We come here every time we are in Upland at Dr. Lee's. The crepes with the beshamel sauce are great, the service perfect. And the souffle for desert is a must.
This is not French in the traditional sense. The food is more like a Salisbury steak TV dinner served with mash potatoes Vs Lyonnaise. The salad was iceberg with grocery store level blue cheese. I asked for a new bottle of wine, which the sever scratched out the original date. Over priced, no bar and mediocre food.
We visited Le Gourmet for our anniversary this year. I gave myself a little time before I wrote this review. I will preface this to say I am an experienced fine dining server/trainer. I will begin with the most pleasant part of our experience which was Juan, the server. He was extra attentive to our table (we were the only table for the first 80-90 minutes of our visit). I think had he been properly trained as a fine dining server, he would have excelled. But for lack of training, he was an excellent server; as was the young woman bussing our table. When we entered the restaurant there was no hostess, the server just pointed towards the booths and asked us to take a seat. I let him know we had made reservations (on which I noted it was our anniversary). I notices the place setting had only one fork and 1 butter knife. We were offered menus, wine and he told us the specials. I was disappointed they did not have monkfish as stated on their online menu; which had been the deciding point on choosing Le Gourmet. After looking over the menu, we ordered escargot and shrimp appetizers to start. The escargot was served nicely hot and we enjoyed it; however, I have definitely had better. The shrimp was flavorless and I had to ask for a lemon to squeeze over it to give it flavor. We then split a Caesar salad with anchovies and little store bought croutons, aside from the tiny croutons, I enjoyed my salad. My husband had the lamb, which he liked very much. I ordered the Calamari steak which had the same flavorless sauce as the shrimp. I quickly realized it was missing the capers mentioned in the menu description. Once Juan retrieved the capers from the chef, the calamari was delicious. In my opinion, the potatoes were over whipped and the carrots could have been poached a little longer; but the asparagus was perfection. Aside from having to ask for bread, once we received it, Juan made sure our bread basket stayed full. No I like that the butter served with the bread was not overly cold and was spreadable. We finished with the molten chocolate cake for desert, which I think was well done. The desert was beautifully presented and delicious, would recommend. I will say that I was disappointed that our anniversary was never acknowledged. I feel bad for having to say that overall I left there feeling like it was an overpaid Denny’s like experience because I would not want to hurt Juan’s feelings. Juan is a very friendly, attentive server that has amazing potential as a fine dining server with training. The restaurant overall has potential I think, I know that post-pandemic is still a difficult time; it just missed the mark in too many areas. My main disappointment was in the food, I wish it was as delicious as it was presented.
Absolutely love the food and service! It did remind me of the Parisian food in France and the waiter was awesome.
Arrival: Friday night
Reservations: accepted but no need
Server: Friendly staffs, quick
Parking: plenty
Space: a little small but decent job at decorating
Such a good hidden gem! This is our third time visiting and the food is always delicious. Our service could not have been any friendlier and we enjoyed the cozy ambiance of the restaurant.
Ordered Coquille, escargot. Hubby got veal shanks. Excellent meal and service. Been wanting to try Le Gourmet for years.
The best French food you can find outside los angeles. The service was great and the food was even better. Pricey but definitely worth every penny.
Calimari steak, sand dabs were very tender, served with scant mash potatoes, and fresh vegetables. French onion soup standard, good, not salty. Lobster bisque was fishy.
Bread soft and fresh. Service was fabulous. Grand Marnier souffle tastes ok, like a mushy pancake lol
Everything was delicious and more than worth the price! The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend a 3 course meal because the appitizers, entrees, and desserts were all excellent and perfectly cooked.
The decor is like your average old diner.
The good was pretty good. Well priced and cooked well.
The service was not good. Only one of us got a glass of water the whole night.
It's was ok, not really french food though
This was our favorite restaurant to go to in the whole wide world and then it disappeared from Moreno and Central in Montclair and I am so over the moon excited to find them again! My husband and I just made reservations for our 43rd / 27th being married anniversary this Friday and I'm looking so forward to it God bless you guys for staying in business and I'm so looking forward to coming back! Yay!
Your frog legs and your souffles are the best in the world!
