Learn To Surf, La Jolla CA

Learn to surf was fantastic. We called day of and got a lesson right near our rental. Kyle was an awesome teacher. He was incredibly patient and explained everything very well. Everyone was easy going and we just had a blast. Thank you for everything.

Had a lesson with Kyle and I can truly say it was one of the most enjoyable lessons I’ve ever had. Learn to Surf was very accommodating and made the entire process easy.

I had an absolute blast taking this opportunity. I purchased the 2-hour lesson with Kyle and it was the highlight of my time spent in CA. First of all, they were able to squeeze me in same-day! I was feeling spontaneous and they graciously were able to book me in for the last spot for the day.

Kyle was extremely efficient in everything; communication, patience, kindness, and safety!
It was a delight getting to know him whilst simultaneously learning the basics of surfing. By the end of the lesson I was able to stand up on the board and ride the wave all the way to shore!

Learning with someone like Kyle is such a treat. You can feel the love he has in what he does and I think he was even more excited than I was when I finally stood on the board. He deserves all the love and if I were to venture back over to San Diego, I know I'd bee line it to La Jolla to take another lesson with him.

All I needed to do was show-up at the beach where his van was parked. It took me a little bit of time to find a spot since it was a pretty packed parking lot, but I was able to find one with plenty of time to spare before my lesson began. Once I was able to meet up with Kyle, he gave me a wet suit to put on and then we hit the water! I was having such a great time that the 2 hours were over before I even realized.

Absolutely loved this experience. They made scheduling easy, especially since I was coming in straight from the airport and had a delayed flight. Super flexible! My instructor, Fernando was incredible. This was my first time surfing, and he made it fun & simple.

Great lesson! It was my first surf lesson and first ever time on a surfboard. I live in North Texas so I rarely go to the ocean, but the lesson I got really paid off. I was able to get up on the board and surf some small waves within about 30 minutes of trying in the ocean at La Jolla. I would not have been able to do that without the instructor's help. While I am nowhere close to being a real surfer, I can now at least get up and ride a wave 3 out of 4 tries. I highly recommend the instructor, Kyle. He is super relatable and very knowledgeable. He makes it very simple to understand (even though it takes practice), and offers great helpful input when you need it. Well worth the money ya'll!

This was my first surfing lesson ever and this was the highlight of our trip to California. Scheduling the time and location was easy and all we had to do was show up. The instructor (Kyle) worked with us and had us surfing in no time. Through out our session lots of positive feed back that helped to improve our technique. With just the two of us we were able to catch many waves. We even learned about good and bad wave along the way. We are still talking about the great experience we had with Learn to Surf.

Eduardo was a great friend to spend the morning with, learning to surf. Was very encouraging and knowledgeable. We weren’t rushed and everyone was met where they are at regarding skill. He won’t let you give up, and if you want to learn to surf, this is where it’s at.

My daughter and I had a great day of surfing with Fernando. We both caught so many waves and had a blast being out on the water together

Easy to set up, professionally done logistically, and amazingly taught! Rob from Learn to Surf was a great instructor, patient, motivated, and genuinely happy to be out helping our crew enjoy the waves. In the span of less than an hour, everyone was able to standup on the boards. Additionally, Learn to Surf was flexible and affordable to let some of our group who already knew how to surf simply rent boards and wet suits at the same times as the rest of our friends, simplifying the whole experience and allowing us all to hangout together on the waves: experienced and inexperienced surfers alike. Would highly recommend coming here for anyone visiting San Diego who wants to learn to surf. Send it!

Had a lesson with Rob yesterday and had so much fun! He was very encouraging and helpful and I even caught a few waves!

Fernando is an AMAZING teacher! In just two hours we learned a lot! We loved the experiences. Totally recommend it

Rob and Rod were wonderful instructors. Rob's wife Mary took pictures and videos, which was a huge bonus. My family and I had a great time. Jason the owner was easy to work with. I would highly recommend Learn To Surf.

I booked 2 hours, after 50 minutes the teacher showed me something and the leash connection was broken. I could have continued surfing, but I didn't dare do it without a leash. Since there was no replacement board we had to cancel. When I asked to be reimbursed for an hour, I was met with a lack of understanding from the owner. A pity.

Had a wonderful experience with a private lesson for my girlfriend and I from Learn To Surf. Our instructor Fernando made us feel very comfortable on the water. He did an excellent job explaining the fundamentals of surfing and helped us build up our confidence to catch some awesome waves. Would highly recommend him!

I was a little concerned when I found out they didn't have a physical location, but the other operations were booked that day so I went for it and I am so glad I did. Pedro was very friendly and great with my kids. He is a very good instructor. He didn't just stand aside and tell us what to do, he was very hands on with my 2 kids, helping them paddle out, explaining what to do, and helping them catch and ride waves. There was another small group lesson going on next to us with one of the bigger companies and I could tell we were getting a much more personal and higher quality lesson. We were complete beginners and we came away from our lesson feeling like next time we could rent boards and go out and ride small waves on our own. Great job Pedro-thank you!

Disappointing and not beginner-friendly
Our instructor was Rod, and I wish we had someone who were more helpful. He kept repeating the same instructions, and that didn't help me much. Also, they took us surfing to a beach little south of La Jolla shores which had seaweed all over the beach and in the ocean. The seaweed made it more cumbersome for us as it kept getting stuck in our leash. There is no shop where you can change into a wetsuit so come prepared!
Overall, it was a meh experience. We did tip him fairly though as we were in the water for 1.5 hrs.

Pedro was a great instructor. My daughter and I had a great time. He made it fun and was very knowledgeable and helpful.

My daughter had such an awesome time w/ Fernando & his partner. Caught on so quickly and just kept going to whole time. Definitely was sad when it was over lol loved the experience and felt safe w/ her instructor.
100% recommend for anyone!
