Been enjoying the mountain biking in the area. Double track and flowy single track. Still familiarizing my self with the trails. Would be good for gravel bikes as well as mountain bikes.

I really enjoy early morning hikes here. The journey to the waterfall is one I throughly enjoy, there are plenty of beautiful views between the canyon and the creek. Very biker and hike friendly.

Mostly flat good for speed!
Usually there are people which makes me feel more comfortable if I am running solo.
A few hills here and there when we want holl training!
Waterfall Sometimes busy but last night was completely empty.
Access to other trails so we can change the course every time!
Great place to run, hike, bike and have a great time!

I loved this hike. It looks really lush and shady at the beginning, and it is. But then there's about a half mile of mostly unshaded area. Just when you really need some shade, there it is! The first we by some water that had a little wooden bridge over it that a few bicyclists came speeding over. Only a handful of other hikers and some cyclists while walking the almost 3 miles to the end. Before that there's a little clear creek that we could hear but not see. We maneuvered down a little embankment to check it out and I was so hot (we stupidly went mid day) I just laid in it. About a foot deep. With a tiny waterfall. Recommend for sure but obviously don't go in the middle of the day of it's summer time, lol. There is only a small incline right at the beginning and end so it's an easy to moderate trail.

Took our 5 month husky, was a bit warm out at noon but the hike was no more than a 2 hour pace with water stops and shade. Water was refreshing to go in once you get to the falls. Woul recommend, bring at least a day pack with water and some energy snacks. Good times go your own pace by foot or bike.

Like everyone said, this is an easy and nice hike. The only thing is that there is not much shade along the trail. It would get very hot during the summer. It’s best to hike either early in the morning or late afternoon. Please bring plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

Most people hike to the waterfall which would take 6 miles around trip. At the end of the trail, a very nice stream/waterfall awaits you. Many people play in the water but I feel it’s a bit treacherous as the rocks are very slippery.

The trail is a multipurpose trail. Bikes, horse and hikers share the road. So please hike on the side of the road to avoid running into bikers.

San Diego has many nice trails for hiking. This is a relatively easy hike and flat. It’s perfect to bring the whole family.

Amazing trail both for mountain biking Or hiking. You can start from either way north or south. The trail is medium for mountain biking and easy for trekking. You can’t believe that you are in the wilderness in the middle of the city. Done this hike and biking more than 10 times. The terrain is up and down and you can see houses in the east and west of the hill as you walk through the Canyon. For the first time we saw jackal or fox howling to us, sorry guys we never intend to harm you. There is a waterfall in the middle of the trail and you can walk either side of the creek. There will always be people in this trail but not so crowded.

It's an easy hike to see the views of CA. You can take the iconic stairs or go on the trail that wraps around to the top. There is no shade at all so bring a hat! You can easily find street parking (which was a surprise). At the top, there is a pretty clean bathroom.

Beautiful and peaceful place. I started at the Sorrento Valley parking lot and started my trek from there. There are areas of shade, some with river rocks, some with soft sand but you can walk on the sand easily. There were some inclines that I would grade as a moderate climb but so doable. The big plus on this trail is the waterfall less than 3 miles in. I brought my small dog, he kept up. This may not be a surprise to anyone but I found 2 ticks on my dog which I removed immediately, so just a head's up, my dog does have a flea/ tick collar. Definitely bring water if hiking during warmer weather.

Nice hiking? , mountain biking ‍️, and horse riding park in the middle of San Diego. The park is managed by the City of San Diego and has 147 registered trails for mountain biking ‍️ and hiking? And 9 identified for horseback riding. I believe many more trails are open to horses but only found 9 listed. The center of the valley has many easy riding trails, a nice year round stream, a small waterfall, and wildlife such as deer, rabbits, skunks? , and an occasional bobcat. People love walking their dogs here but watch out for coyotes especially near dawn and dusk.

Medium to hard rated trail. Trail can be very rocky with boulders so be very careful and wear proper gear. Helmets, pads and gloves recommended!

Your reward is reaching the middle of the Penasquitos Reserve trail "waterfall"

Enjoy riding or hiking. Hike with friends or family and enjoy nature together.

Small reminder: Please keep nature beautiful!

Wide, open canyon walk. Narrow trail in places makes it sometimes tough with all the bikes. Pretty respite from city life, but with the canyon rims lined with houses and businesses.

The trail is really nice and easy with a waterfall but it seems to be closed recently. You may want to check before driving all the way to there.

Easy hike into Lopez Canyon for some great quiet forested area. Go in the evening and watch for deer. Check your pets & legs for ticks if you are in the tall grass.

I grew up in this canyon long before there were houses and trail signs and roads, etc. I just saw the east parking lot trail head the other day and the canyons, both lopez (we called it montongo canyon) and penasquitos looked as if they hadn’t changed much. There was an old Adobe house and a corral where they’d brand the cattle that used to live there. It’s pretty cool to here so many like it so much.
It has really good energy. The creek used to/still does have fresh water clams, crayfish, bass, sunfish, and bluegill. AND, gigantic pollywogs. Hope it lives on for ever. Thanks for letting me share-Michael David Austin AKA Aussie Bear
