Park Marin Headlands reviews
15A must see prospective of the Golden Gate and San Francisco.pictures do not do it justice.amazing.
Any visit to the San Francisco Bay Area needs to include a drive to the Marin Headlands, just over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Take the first exit beyond the Vista Point amd head back under the roadway, as if getting back on the Bridge back to SF. Take the exit to Golden Gate National Recreation Area and then a left into the parking lot, if you want to hike down to Kirby Cove. That is about a mile hike down a gravel road, gentle slope. Wonderful views of the Bridge and of SF, as well as of early 1900s coast artillery emplacements. The guns themselves are long gone.
Alternatively, take the same exit and follow signs to right and make your way to the top of Marin Headlands, Hawk Hill. Spectacular views of the Bridge and of SF.
The many and varied trails for the avid to the once in a blue moon types offer steep terrains with gorgeous views on quick ascent and allows for choices based on distance from 1.5 hr to 2.5 to 4 to from 10am - 9 pm which we've done one day.boy this place doesn't get old but you do.
We went in the evening and there was a wedding party and most of the sitting area was reserved for the party.
The decorations and setup was my nice, that the only thing I was impressed with. The food was very expensive and quantity skimpy. You will have to spend a lot ($$$$).
We heard so.much about this place on Social media that we had a visit but I don't think I will go back there to eat again because of the food prices.
Fantastic side trip after driving east-west across middle California to San Francisco, the bridge of all bridges has always been a bucket list item, and it does not disappoint, halfway over the surrealness hits you that you are on THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE!
My favorite view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Cool geology and history in these parts, take advantage of the NPS signage if you can!
The most beautiful place on earth, perfect for running, hiking, or just hanging out at the beach. There is so much to explore. I've been coming here for 20 years and am always finding something new. It's the best!
This place is so full of wonderful! Something for everyone! Hikes, beach (with rainbow sand!), history, nature, a lighthouse, tunnels, excellent photography opportunities (GG Bridge, marine mammal cove, sunsets), a whale skeleton, sunsets and a fabulous visitor's center with the most scrumptious smelling rainbow eucalyptus tree. There are picnic tablets and bathrooms throughout. Kids can earn a Jr Ranger badge by completing the book. Go! You won't be disappointed!
Marin headlands is such a beautiful area to hike, there are so many trails and can really spend all day hiking over ridges.
Came during Xmas break 12/24 - 1/2; gate closes at night and opens at 7am. Try to be early, we came at 5am because we were just driving through SF. We had to wait by trail head parking until park rangers opened gates. It was totally worth the wait; we were first ones in, had plenty of breathing room and could take many pictures. Nice view of GGB and the bunkers are pretty cool. There are lots of trails to explore; we encountered deer and coyotes too.best part is it's all free!
Perfect picture spot! Be quick tho, the parking situation is not ideal as you are exposed and kind of blocking the way, several signs about theft prevention and some broken glass on the floor will let you know you could be robbed. The view is amazing
The city of San Francisco is incredibly lucky to have the Marin Headlands nearby. Incredible views, a quiet and remote oasis away from the city.
It’s annoying to cross the bridge, but this is the best place to bike around SF - much better than going south. You’d never guess you’re 10 miles from SF. Plus, the history and artifacts are really interesting - leading to any number of pit stops.
Very picturesque! We went just before sunset and found the views over the water great! I would recommend not staying for too long after sunset, though, as the paths around the area get dark pretty fast!
When we went, there were some parts which were not clearly open or closed to the public (including one pathway through a cave!). I would have appreciated clearer signage about what is off-limits. Maybe I missed it?
Awesome place mind-blowing location the sunset time oh my God I can't explain in the words you have to visit this place I love it
