Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego (MCRD)

Firstly, the staff are very welcoming. Upon arrival they give a heartwarming speech and even assist your departure from the bus. The rooms are spacious and offer an open floor plan. The staff are very welcoming… just make sure to use lots of “I statements” and express your needs to them as often as your heart desires.

They have a personalized fitness program with a “Go at your own pace motto. ” The best part is that if you’re not meeting your personal fitness goals, the instructors are there to hold your hand through the the tough parts. A shoulder to cry on if needed.

Make sure to mention to your assigned senior instructor that I sent you and informed you to express your wishes on how to best progress through your stay.

The place has only changed a little bit when we went to watch my grandson graduate from boot camp and when I went thru boot camp 46 years earlier

The base goes above and beyond. The chow hall is great, really nice benches to have lunch and a fountain in the middle of the shopping center. Not too pricey.

The accommodations are a bit spartan, and the service is surly, but the price is free and you get what you pay for. You do need to make reservations with a recruiter. Do not try to show up without reservations! Once there, expect to stay for at least four years. When you check out, you will remember it as the best vacation of your life.

Watching my son become a marine was priceless. Had a very nice marine buy me a pack of smokes since I couldn't buy it without a military ID. A skunk wondered in and people screamed and ran. It was hilarious.

AMAZING place and people! They change and train our children to the very best. The graduations are priceless!
