Went to see Dr. Schultzel for Bursitis. Appointment was on time, staff was very considerate. Dr. Schultzel was very thorough and spent quality time with me to provide an explanation of my condition and possible treatment options. I'm glad to have found Dr. Schultzels office for my future Orthopedic needs and would definitely recommend him.

Dr. Schultzel provides the most amazing, personable care anyone could ask for! Most times leaving a medical building you feel unheard, rushed, and more like a number! Not with Dr. Schultzel, he takes the time to listen, he demonstrates a genuine interest in your appointments, and he’s so calm and gentle in his approach. I never have experienced such a wonderful doctor like Dr. Schultzel… I would highly recommend home to anyone needing an amazing ortho in the San Diego region!

Dr Schultzel is one of the best doctors I have ever seen. He clearly cares about his clients and ensures his staff treats you in the same manner. He was super clear on what my issues were, what could be done and was super clear in communicating throughout pre and post surgery. I will gladly be referring him out as an amazing doctor. Not to mention I am sure I'll be seeing him again for any other body issues I might have.

He lied to me on several occasions. I needed a shoulder replacement. He told me I need a signed report from my dentist before surgery. I spent 2500.00 on my teeth. As it turned out, he lied.
He also told me he was going to make my new shoulder on his laser printer. Another lie.
He no longer works at Kaiser San Marcos. I would never trust him.

This review is LONG overdue. I always pull back when I think about writing it because I'm afraid I won't find words that do justice to what Dr. Schultzel has done for me. Tonight, I realized something is better than nothing:)

The head of the shoulder and elbow department at a major healthcare system in Chicagoland happened to be on call when I was injured. It became clear that I needed an uncommon and complicated surgery, but should have it done at home (San Diego). He specifically picked Dr. Schultzel, who promptly squeezed me in.

When Dr. Schultzel removed the bandages from Illinois, which went from my upper arm to my fingertips, we discovered my fingers could barely move. I was terrified because it was my dominant hand and didn't know it was affected. I asked many questions in the days and weeks that followed and he warmly and promptly responded to all of them.

Besides being a skilled physician, he's a genuinely good human being. He is incredibly humble and I don't think he even realizes what a light he is in this world.

Last, but definitely not least, he's stepped far outside his scope to advocate for me with others. My elbow wasn't the only injury. When I was at my worst, his actions literally changed the course of my life. He will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Dr. Schultzel is an excellent physician that truly cares for his patients. After seeing Dr. Schultzel numerous times over 6 months, I can say my humerus fracture is completely healed without having to have surgery. I would recommend any family member to se Dr. Schultzel for any orthopedic need. 10 out of 10!

A year back I lost consciousness, and injured my shoulder – (a complex fracture). I went to shock, the next thing I recall was at 2 am, I saw a man standing by my side in hospital scrubs and smiling face. I heard him say “I am Dr. Mark Schultzel, and I will take care of you”. He explained what he planned to do (the reverse shoulder replacement), what I should be prepared to ignore, learn to accept, the risks, the benefits and shared his surgical experiences. It was clear that this partnering could last anywhere from 12 months to 18 months with an excellent probability of success/near normalcy.
I am a cardiologist and doctors make the worst patients. With polite congenial voice, he explained the finer details of the surgery, the evidence for success, the complexity of the shoulder girdle, the plan to reconstruct the shoulder, regain mobility and eventually strength. This methodical approach all made sense and dissipated my fear and despite some anxiety, as I was clearly in the hands of a compassionate expert who could see the world of orthopedics through different lenses, able to empathize with the patient experience and address many concerns that emerged in pain management with competency, and grace.
Initially I saw Dr. Schultzel weekly for 6 weeks, then every trimester till now along with regular visits to his outstanding PT/OT rehab team. Covid or no Covid, each visit was a joy and
I thank the Lord for providing an “Angel” to shepherd me through this tumultuous journey of mind, body, and spirit.
At the time of writing, 9 months have passed, I have regained a good range of motion, I am in a better place now that many months ago. It’s a slow steady rehab process and still some distance to cover, throughout Dr Schultzel has always illuminated the light at the end of the tunnel.
Over this time and especially reminiscing upon the journey, as I write, I am reminded of Jeremiah 29: 11: “For I know the plans I have for you, ” declares the Lord “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ”…. That is what Dr. Schultzel had for me and did it for me and that why he more than an MD but a healer that the lord has destined to share to serve the needy across times of despair.
At one of my visits, I asked him why he became a doctor?
He said as a child he was in vacation with his family in a remote area of the world hiking and he saw disability, despair and suffering and pain. He asked his father why does do something for this suffering? His father told him (as I paraphrase) “why don’t you become a doctor and do something. ” Prophetic words…. Till today Dr. Schultzel spends special moments in that village and other similar places periodically as his philanthropic compassion and giving back to humanity. As MD’s we are all skilled and competent with the delivery of health care; however rarely do we find an Angel Doctor who puts care, healing and epitomizes Jerimiah 29.11….
I feel more physically functional, Dr. Schultzel helped redirect my focus on improving functions of daily living and each day I see my shoulder progressing …. Towards normalcy.
I feel privileged to be a patient of Dr. Schultzel and not having known him prior to my accident, I would say he is the epitome of what a doctor can be. I highly recommend Dr. Schultzel as a surgeon, a healer.
I wish him GODSPEED. He was and remains my “ANGEL”. If you are reading this as you face a future surgery or are moving along in your rehab plan – I would have to say you literally could not be in better hands. Need I say more.
With deepest gratitude and warm wishes for his continued good health and fulfillment in his calling.

I can only add to the previous 5 star reviews of Dr. Mark Schultzel. He went above and beyond trying to help me with partially torn rotator cuff as well as finding a primary care doctor. He can be counted on to follow through with commitments he makes, while running a busy practice. Every time I leave the office, I feel supported, so the pain of the last 5 months seems endurable. I hope I don't need surgery, but I know Dr. S.will be the one to do it if necessary.

Dr. Schultzel is an absolutely amazing orthopedic specialist!
I’ve had three major injuries that have required surgery and by far Dr. Schultzel was the most caring, hands on, helpful, and reassuring doctor I’ve had the good fortune of coming across.
From first consultation, now 3 months post surgery, I’ve felt completely confident that Dr. Schultzel will do whatever he can to help me recover to 100%!

I was treated for and ultimately had surgery with Dr. Mark Schultzel for a torn rotator cuff. Dr. Schultzel demonstrated interest in me as a person as well as a patient. He inquired about my background, interests, and goals following surgery. He is willing to sit down, explain the injury and discuss options for treatment in detail. Dr. Schultzel values patient input and ensures that all questions are answered during each appointment. Following successful surgery for a badly torn tendon, Dr. Schultzel's follow-up care has been excellent. I was referred to Dr. Schultzel by a trusted colleague and I in turn would recommend him to anyone needing orthopedic care.

As a retired Navy physician, I know an excellent Doc when I see one! I was fortunate to have a torn rotator cuff repaired by Dr Schultzel. My observations: First rate technical competence, solid evidence-based approach, excellent communicator, very responsive to text and email, and a genuine passion for improving the quality of life of his patients. I've had a great outcome on my shoulder thanks to this fine and warm young Doc!

I went to Dr Schultzel for a 2nd opinion after 8mos of having an ankle reconstruction. I still had hardware in me. My original surgeon was overly confident that his surgery was perfect. But I was still in pain with limited mobility compared to before the surgery. I also had constant swelling. My surgeon wouldn't listen to me & pretty much told me his surgery was perfect, he didn't know what was wrong with me. Dr Schultzel listened, was compassionate, had a solution to remove the hardware & get back to physical therapy. Best move I ever made! Since the hardware removal all the pain I had is gone, I don't have the swelling or any of the other symptoms. I'm just now starting physical therapy & I'm doing so much better! I highly recommend him. And he always has the nicest disposition too! Nice to see a doctor with a smile on his face every time!

I total reccomend Dr. Schultzel and staff. They treated me very professionally. Every time I need something they would respond right away and took care of it with no problems. If you really need a doctor that would work closely with you, he is the doctor to choose. No hands down the best doctor experience.

My experience with Dr. Schultzel has been wonderful. He is professional positive, sincere with a great sense of humor, that put me at ease. I had a severe dog bite on my right hand that required urgent surgery and effective treatment post-surgery. I mentioned to him, I have never had surgery Dr. Schultzel communicated clearly, put me at ease, treated me with urgency, compassion, and care. His support staff/team are all knowledgeable, effective, friendly, and very professional.
I highly recommend Dr. Schultzel to anyone.

Favorite doctor ever! I cannot say enough about how kind, compassionate, and professional Dr. Schultzel is. When I ruptured my Achilles tendon, I was not in a good place. He was such a calming presence; I knew I was going to be just fine as soon as he introduced himself. He got me into surgery ASAP and has been immediately available throughout my recovery; he even responded to a text on a Saturday! I look forward to my follow-up appointments; he and his office staff are incredible. Thank you, Doc! I am forever grateful I ended up at your office. <3
