Max's Bistro & Bar, Fresno CA

I was really disappointed coming here for fine dining. Food was okay but it was greasy and kinda uninspired. The ponzu sauce tasted like it came out of a bottle.the sauce with shrimp was not great.the lamb wontons were overfried. The pistachio halibut was excellent, but then followed by a really poor icecream with basically chocolate sauce.

Our favourite restaurant in Fresno! The food is always delicious and the service is great.

I ordered the Mozzarella sandwich. It had a cold storage tomato that was horrible. Why would such a nice place not serve a fresh tomato?

This was my first time at Max's Bistro & Bar. It was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive, without being hovering or checking too frequently of we needed something else.

The food was delicious and hit the spot. We had that evening special, fettuccine with short ribs, and it was amazing! I also thought the calamari appetizer was done perfectly - not too deep fried and not too covered in batter. The wine we had with our meal was likewise excellent.

I live in Atlanta currently, but plan to relocate to Fresno in the next 18 months or so. Max's Bistro & Bar is already on my short list of places to go when I am in the mood for a great meal, friendly staff, and great, cozy atmosphere.

Ordered the filet mignon and I got to tell you for a $44 steak, it was disappointing. A little too charred on the outside and my asparagus was bland. The potato gratin was delicious and so was my wife's chicken marsala.

Just another "Boomers only" restraunt. Foods only good depending on who the chef is. So that gives you a 50/50 chance. Definitely not worth the price. Horrible service if you're not a boomer or in a large group, they like to sit younger couples at their broken small tables that are in a hallway. This has happened on multiple occasions, even with a reservation. We only seem to get a good table when with my mom:/

I did a last-minute reservation. When I showed up they were very tentative. The cooks were happy and singing even the owner greeted me JJ. I ordered mac and cheese. A glass of Cabernet, truffle fries, filet mignon, prawns, and meatloaf. Celebrating my son's birthday everything was delicious. I was surprised how good the mac and cheese was. And I do travel a lot this was the best one so far and it's in my hometown. I'm going back for the food and especially for the service

I visited with family and was struck by the charming atmosphere. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. I highly recommend.

Friendly service. We reserved a table and we were seated right away upon our arrival. The Bavette Steak was delicious. The Ahi tuna on tostada was fresh. The Pesto Pappardelle was good but the add-on chicken was overcooked. Overall I would rate the food 4 out of 5. The dining experience is 5 out of 5.

Loved this place from the inside and the vibe, such a nice decor and don’t get me started on the service and food! Everything was excellent! Meatloaf, Rib-eye steaks that were ordered at our table were perfect! My son had a grilled cheese, fries and fruit and was only $8? !? ! I couldn’t believe that! The desserts were extremely delicious I can’t wait to go back sometime.

I had the hell of it special for the night and it was prepared very well. Seems the waitress was in a hurry to I sure are group out though she kept wanting to clear the table and when we weren't finished with our food other than that very good probably would have got four stars if it wasn't for her.

I've been to Max's twice. The first time was about a month ago, and everything was so delicious (especially my filet!) that my husband and I made plans to return for our anniversary. This second visit unfortunately left a lot to be desired. My husband ordered the meatloaf and said it was good; I ordered an 8 oz filet and the meat was rancid. The server who cleared my plate confirmed that it smelled rotten. Service was good, they offered to remake it or something else (I declined) and removed it from our bill but what really bothered me and ultimately prompted me to leave this review was the owner/manager. He came to our table and said the "steak had a bit of age on it, but [I] shouldn't be worried about any illness. " That's an odd way to apologize for serving rotten food.and a day later, my stomach disagrees with his assessment.

Great Service and tasty food. The Ahi Tuna Tostada had great flavor and quality tuna! Hard to find great service since Covid-19!

Always nice people waiting tables. This was the second time that I have been here when I heard yelling in the kitchen. Not cool. Menu is getting tired.

I went here for a date night. Staff were super friendly. No complaints on service. They started us with a complimentary small bite, which was delicious. The charcuterie board was good as well. Very standard. But I would say that's where the culinary delights stopped. Unfortunately, the salad was just ok, and the shrimp pasta dish was not good. I would say this would be a skip for me in future.

Food was very good, I take a fillet mignon and it was delicious. The service was awesome, the waitress was very attentive and super friendly. It was a very good experience.

We had the pleasure of dining there for the first time yesterday. I must say that it truly was a Mother's Day treat.
The only sad part of our visit: That we only learned of your wonderful restaurant yesterday!

There was a group of eight of us and not one person had anything but praise for what they ordered.
From the champagne vinaigrette to the creme brulee, everything was wonderful.

I have not had such a wonderful piece of halibut in about 40 years!

My husband had the salmon and it literally just melted in your mouth. Never have we had a salmon as wonderful as the one that was prepared for us yesterday.

Another family member had the prime rib and it was also.well.wonderful!
Yes, we were sharing our food. We could not help but share- We didn't want anyone to miss out on the excellent dishes that we were having!
We are very glad to have found you and are sure to be back.

Our server, Lauren. If I had a restaurant I would do everything I could to steal her from you! Thinking back, I have to say that your waite staff is absolutely great. They don't miss a beat!

First time in and was pleased with service.seemed to have feel when to ask if I needed anything. I ate at the bar. Sabrina was great.good food.very good burger.will come back!

What a great experience, atmosphere, food and drinks are amazing. We sat at the bar and Josh and Noah were great hosts to us visiting from out of town. We both got their specials and they did not disappoint. Super great vibe about this place.

We went early on a Saturday afternoon- the place wasn't too busy. The sound level was pretty quiet even with a young family sitting next to us. They apologized for the noise of their kids, but the two kids hardly made any noise at all.

I ordered the first and my wife ordered scallops. The bread they brought out was good. Overall the food was ok and the service was great.

The only issue was I ordered the steak medium rare and it came out medium well, but was tasty nevertheless. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency in how steaks are prepared among Fresno restaurants
