Diner Mel's Kitchen reviews
15 Not as receptive as I would have liked.
The food was standard, at inflated cost, but it is SF.
A Full bar is there for the thirsty.
Renewed in 2018 it had a similar menu to Mel's Drive in. I love that they have all day breakfast.
Dinner! Vegetarian food is hard to maintain in America (excluding Chinatown), but Mel is fantastic, she knows how to entertain people. Food was ok, as I said, vegetarian is difficult
A classic 50's themed diner located in the heart of the city known for juicy burgers, crispy fries, and thick milk shakes. One of my go to spots for a good Patty Melt, they also offer a variety of other dishes, including steaks, chicken, fish, and salads. They also have a full bar, so you can enjoy a drink with your meal. If you have enough room for dessert, the pies a la mode are also very good options here.
Good breakfast and super nice service. Pancakes were super tasty, the omelet maybe a bit greasy, but still tasty. Service was very courteous and friendly. Prices are a bit high as in all of SF.
Had breakfast and dinner a couple of times while staying at the Marriott. Good food and convenient.
I love food, atmosphere and service. I liked the Greek manager who met, served us. I recommend this place for the whole family and for private meetings:)
Very classic American diner with super friendly service. I was pretty surprised by the prices of such basic items, but maybe that’s just California?
Food was good, friendly staff and fast service. Portions are decent. However, price-wise, it’s way too expensive for what you get, but maybe those are the prices in San Francisco?
We recently stayed 5 days at the well located Courtyard Marriott Van Ness in San Francisco which is located above Mel's Kitchen. We have eaten there many times over the years but during this visit, we really appreciated the convenience of having a great restaurant right downstairs to easily bring up to our room. For breakfast, we enjoyed their veggie omelet, waffle, French toast, pancakes, eggs, bacon and potatoes and more. For lunch and dinner, we loved their excellent crispy fried chicken, club sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich and BLT. They are quick to prepare the food and on time plus their staff are friendly and professional. We were so grateful to have the convenience of a reliably delicious restaurant that is both casual and friendly. The historic photos are fun to view as well. Highly recommend for locals, visitors, families, group celebrations and much more!
I did not like my last visit to Mel’s. The burger was unmemorable and the butterscotch shake similarly bland. I really hoped for more. My brother enjoyed his breakfast eggs and hash browns better. The dining room is clean and comfortable. It was toward the end of the day and the service was attentive if not a bit burned out. It felt like the whole crew had a long day and wanted to just go home. I get it. Still we will not return to Mels any time soon.
UPDATE: I had breakfast here in July 2023 and it was better. Eggs, pancakes and ommettes were all fine.
American food - and they dont miss the target! Probably the best fried chicken around. I've been coming regularly when in town for business. Antonia, Ricardo, and Stevens are awesome!
Visiting SF for the weekend and we stopped here for lunch since it was near our hotel. It was a cute, elegant looking diner, so we thought, this should be good. Boy was I wrong. The service was terrible; the lady (who I think was the manager) was not pleasant. The guy who brought our food was also not friendly. Finally; the food, WAY overpriced for the quality. You’re honestly better off eating fast food for the service/food quality we got. Definitely DO NOT recommend!
This place is awesome, they've been my home and family while my mom has been in the hospital such nice people
