Mercy Hospital Southwest - Bakersfield

The worst experience in health care ever. I was with my daughter who is not able to speak and they would not allow me in there while other patients had family members with them. The security guard and staff were so extremely rude. Maybe if my skin was a little bit lighter they might have been more courteous. Staff tried to force her to swallow pills which she can’t do to an abscess on her tonsils. She was sent back to the wating room saying she refused treatment. I then brought her to dignity health and was immediately put on sailing for dehydration and a shot for pain. I will not ever go back there or recommend to anyone. Matt the security guard wouldn’t even let me talk.

I was so much in pain and didn't get anything for pain. Not only I waited for 5 hours when I finally ask how much more they had me as no answer so I decided to eloped with pain.

I recently had a surgery performed at mercy. The staff is great and attentive. I felt safe in their care.

ER is awful here. Be prepared to wait 6 hours just to be taken into the little triage room and immediately be sent home without even seeing an er nurse or doctor

I’ve never taken the time to write review so I’ll start by saying I took my husband here a few days ago and they treated him very well and were able to help him, I decided to take my Hispanic mother in law here yesterday night because she was having issues with her bladder. I trusted they would treat her kindly the way they did with my husband. They called my husband to translate a few things to him because my mother in law only speaks Spanish, they basically said there was nothing wrong with her and she was good to go. My husband asked the lady that was giving us all my mother in laws paperwork what would be the cause for her to feel the way she did and the lady said “ Everything with her is fine, I don’t know, do you have the answer? ” Sarcastically with such a terrible attitude. Of course we don’t that’s why we took her there hoping you guys could help and instead we had a grouchy Caucasian lady giving a sarcastic response and giving attitude to us and to my mother in law. My mother in law the next day went to her the clinic she usually goes to and of course they were able to help her and detected she did have an infection. My mother in law felt discriminated and rushed out of southwest mercy hospital. I wouldn’t recommend anyways here who is not able to speak English or you’ll just be discriminated and belittled.

The staff before, during, and after my surgery were the best, everybody that me and my sister came in contact with were awesome, and we can't thank them all enough. Me and my sister appreciate you all.

My review is towards the birthing center. The location is extremely clean and well maintained. The staff is AMAZING and very knowledgeable.if it was just on that this location would get 5 stars.the issues witch I had was with accommodations and reasonable visitation. Don't get me wrong, I agree with two visitors at a time rule.the issues are that my other underage children couldn't see their new born baby sister and their grandma who was with myself in the delivery room most of the time was yelled at by a nurse and was told she couldn't come back up after just going to the car for a sweater. Who yells at a 60 yr old lady? My mother in-law isnt a rude nor argumentative person. Second the sleeping conditions for the farther is extremely poor.it was to the point I almost slept on the cold hard ground. I didn't expect a serta or anything extravagant but can I get something more then a transformer 3x5 chair when fully extended? I just think you'd take care of the guy who is paying the bill.

Everyone was awesome and kind! It was my first stay ever in a hospital and I can greatfully say it was pleasant thanks to the awesome staff! Summer and Amanda were GREAT nurses! And I’m thankful for the care they took with me.

My daughter was brought by ambulance and had emergency surgery and everything I called or went to see her they didn't know where she was kept telling me they had no one bt that name! What a bunch of dereliction, very unprofessional and rude.

I went in for gallbladder pain because of my gallstones and was there for almost 6 hours just to tell me they couldn't do anything for me. The doctor told me that surgery wasn't necessary right now even though I was in pain and I was trying to explain to her that I have been like this for months. I'm not able to eat much and I'm losing weight really fast. Although the doctor was very nice my condition was not taken seriously. I am trying to get an appointment to see a surgeon but it has been very complicated to get one and I'm still waiting on it but like I said I've been suffering with this gallbladder issue for months and I don't know how much longer I can wait. I was really hoping they would help me here but I was very disappointed.

I had a horrible experience. I went in to the ER complaining of chest pain. After several text, I was informed that I had a mild heart attack. The doctor who was attending me told me that he was not sure if he should admit me or send me home. Of course I was distraught and I couldn’t even think at this point after hearing this news, but I was left in astonishment when the doctor asked ME, what I wanted to do! I literally just stared at him and asked me the same question a few more times. In my head I thought, aren’t you the doctor! I then informed him of my history and gave him the name of my heart doctor and he decided to call him. Luckily, my heart doctor told him to admit me! I then spent 3 days on a gurney in the ER waiting for someone to figure out what was going to happen to me. No one was on the same page. I was told that I could have a family member visit me then when they came to visit they were turned away. My heart doctor finally had me transferred to Memorial hospital and I was swiftly taken care of. I will never go there again!

If choosing a hospital, you can never go wrong with Mercy Sourh West. The Doctors, Nurses & all staff are very friendly, helpful & go beyond to make tour visit q good one. Brian, in ER Id like to say thank you & your an asset to ER & patients. Thanks again!

Discrimination against black patients brought 2year old in morning due to Him not eating or drinking was treated like dog on street came when 3 patients waiting still end up staying for 6hours nurse sit you in room in left us for hour … 2year old struggled to breath nurse in RTA said my baby spreading flu in rude manner …Ask nurses about wait they told me I should had tried another hospital …Worse visit feel like segregation times

Dr. Coppola and the entire staff at Mercy Hospital were professional, kind and welcoming during our experience there.

Wish I could leave 0 stars. Took my toddler in for sharp stomach pain that continues to get worse, DR ANDREWS offered a cup of water and said he has to just "push through the virus" he did not even check if its a virus. I requested an ultrasound or xray to see if there is something in his stomach, he said NO and agreed that I should take him elsewhere. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

DR ANDREWS NEEDS A NEW CAREER. HE DOES NOT ACT AS A PROFESSIONAL DOCTOR
