I don’t think it is possible to find a better realtor than Michael Thompson. He helped me in 2010 when I bought a home in Oakland, and again in 2021 when I moved to Boston and sold it. In both instances, the results could not have been better.

Michael is all about high quality service, open communication, and maintaining integrity. When I bought my home, I always felt that Michael had my best interest at heart. He treated me like a queen throughout the entire multi-month process and I know for a fact that he often works with properties that are more expensive than what I could afford. Having Michael at my side - someone I could trust 100 percent - was invaluable.

When I was looking for my home, I had to rely heavily on Michael’s advice more than once as he firmly guided me away from a couple of properties I very much wanted to consider. Although it was difficult to wait for the right place as the weeks and months passed, in the end I was grateful I took his advice. When I decided to move to Boston, I met with Michael to discuss preparing my home for sale and the marketing strategy for selling it quickly. Michael had a very clear plan based on strong research of the market and his decades of experience. He communicated that plan to me and we discussed every detail until I was comfortable with it. When my home went on the market, the buyer walked in the door within 24 hours and made a very strong offer. My home sold quickly and for over asking price.

I am especially grateful to Michael for managing every aspect of getting my home ready to go to market, from the paint job to staging and everything in between. Since I was in Boston while this process took place, I relied on his expertise and the contractors he brought in, all of whom he has worked with for years. Michael communicated every nuance with me, making sure I agreed to all his suggestions before moving ahead.

Additionally, Michael was superb in handling a thorny issue that arose around compliance with a city code. He worked extra hard to get this issue resolved, including helping me know what I could do to move the process forward. He even took the extra step to make personal contact with a key person who then assisted with the process. Thankfully, after more than a month of trying different angles, the issue was resolved shortly before escrow closed.

Some of my family and friends marvel when I tell them about Michael. They’ve had experiences with realtors that weren’t as positive. I only wish that Boston was part of his territory!

Michael is a stellar agent and a genuinely nice person. His expertise was integral to our home search in a historically competitive market. His honest advice and extensive knowledge never had us feeling like we were being given a sales pitch. He worked closely with our mortgage broker to provide timely responses and has continued to be a valuable resource post purchase. Over the course of more than thirty years Michael has helped us buy and sell two homes and during that time has been an invaluable resource for contractors and vendors to help us maintain and improve our home. Most recently, twenty-five years after helping us sell our first home (which he helped us buy) and buy our second home, we turned to Michael to help us with the sale. Michael’s advice is thoughtful and thorough, he is always available to answer questions and render advice, he is responsive, timely, diligent, honest, and clear in his communication. It is a testament to Michael’s commitment to the sale process and the interests of all parties that he regularly stopped by the property during the contract term to ensure all was well and the property remained looking its best. We contacted Michael in 2018 to sell my family home that was now vacant after my mother's death. It turned into a two year process due to many factors, including needed work on the home (and how to finance that), a common driveway used by two properties that required an easement agreement, a required new sewer lateral line, and then in March 2020, the lockdown due to the pandemic which for a time froze everything just when we were close to going on market.
Michael was calm and professional throughout all of this, and quick on his feet when an issue required an unorthodox solution. There were moments when my wife and I would have been somewhat frantic without his calm perseverance. And I called him so many times I found I knew his number by heart just from repetition, but throughout the two years he was always responsive and I never waited long for a reply, whether by phone or email or text. In the end when we went on market, we had an amazing response of around 70 viewings, 14 confirmed offers, and finally a sale price well above what we had expected. We are truly thankful and can recommend Michael in the strongest terms.
