Mikado Sushi Japanese Restaurant, Santa Maria CA

Decided to shake things up for a late lunch.
The food was on point and any issues I had with it were due to my mistakes when placing my order (IE: knowing the roll had avocado and forgetting to ask them to remove it).
I still ate it
It was delicious

We were sat within 2 minutes and had our drinks / order placed in the next 5. The only downside with the service is that I needed to flag staff down for a refill, for boxes, and to pick up the check. It seemed like we were forgotten about after everything was brought to the table.

If you are sensitive to sunlight, might I suggest asking for a table that isn't along the front windows. The south side or center of the dining room would have been perfect.

This place is now on my list of go-to places for sushi, though I will probably sit at the bar.

I’ve been craving good sushi for the past couple months and I tried Mikado before and it was eh. I got it yesterday and it was SO GOOD. I ordered 4 rolls and ranked best to good (none of them were bad) : Play Boy Roll, Ocean Tiger Roll, Santa Maria Roll, Fried Spicy Philadelphia.
I also like their gyoza and miso soup. I liked the combination yakisoba but you just don’t get enough for the price.
I did not like the Ocean 11 roll, jalapeño shrimp, monkey ball, sesame chicken, beef terryaki, or the Oh Boy roll.

The food was decent. I was not impressed in any way but it was not bad either. Service was better than the food. The whole place needs a good renovation in my opinion, it smells and looks old and run down. Not impressed, but I wouldn’t run away from it either. A totally average place, hence the totally average rating

I love cheap sushi! Serves is getting better. Go straight to the bar. Go for lunch or dinner, order some plum wine and maybe three rolls!

Ordered sashimi. Disappointed with the quality. Ordered the Katsu to go for a family member.also disappointing. Chef needs to put more love into that food prep.

Mikado offers good food at an excellent value with good service. Often busy, they do handle a high volume of take-out orders.

My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years. It was our go to. Always great service and great quality food. We went this week and we were very disappointed. The prices increased, which I understood. Prices are going up everywhere, but when our food was brought to our table, we were shocked. The rolls looked like play food. They were so teeny tiny, bite size. If you’re going to increase the price at least offer the same quality of food. It’s poor business practice when you charge more, but offer less. I won’t be going back until this changes. Another thing I noticed was that the restaurant looks like it’s being run down and service took a long time. Not very many people there either. I gave a 2 star because it still tastes good, but considering all else I couldn’t give it more.

They have slipped on service no one to seat or wait on me. Left after 15 minutes of no service. Someone said new owners.

I really enjoy their food My favorite is the Playboy roll! My kids love the yakisoba. The service is good

To start off my meal, I ordered three California Tempura Rolls, one TNT Roll, and one Spicy Crunch Roll. The California Tempura Rolls were a delightful twist on the classic California roll, as they were lightly battered and fried to perfection. The crunchy exterior added a satisfying texture to the creamy filling, and the combination was a true delight for my taste buds.

The TNT Roll was a standout dish, packed with a burst of flavors. The blend of spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber provided a perfect balance of heat and freshness. Each bite was a mouthwatering experience that left me craving for more.

I've eaten at three local sushi restaurants recently, and the food /service at Mikado's was the best. One night, I joined a group for a birthday dinner and Mikado's did have a waiting line. The place was packed. Luckily, we got in quick and shared a whole variety of rolls. All yummy. Second time, I went with a group of 10 for lunch and tried something more direct (bento) - sesame chicken, miso soup, and avocado roll. Again, there was a waiting line but we had a reservation so we got in quick. The miso was hot the way I like it and actually had flavor and body to it, very tasty, not watery like some other places. The iced tea tasted freshly brewed. The sesame chicken was delicious (my fave) and the roll was fresh along with the salad. Service by Adrian was impeccible - fast and clean. Wished i could have stayed for dessert, but I was in a hurry to return to the office. All in all, a very good meal, good quality, fun. The restaurant is busy, close-quarters, and packed, but if you like the "place to be" vibe of a happening eatery, a little chaotic, then this is a good match.

Very dirty, decent price and food, no ventilation very stuffy, but needs attention in clean up.

Fresh fish and pleasing presentation of dishes. Dishes arrived quickly yet service was spotty.

Joseph is an amazing waiter! He is very friendly and his service is phenomenal! He helped me embarrass my husband with the birthday song for his 50 birthday! He is very friendly and on top of his game! Loved the food the cooks are amazing! Very busy considering other sushi spots! That lets you know it’s the spot!

Chris was the best server I’ve ever had in Santa Maria great quality food and great service was very friendly and made sure my food was good

Took my date here for the first time and I was very pleased with the food service and atmosphere would recommend this to anyone looking for a new sushi place
