Mission Cliffs reviews
16Mixed feelings about this gym. I felt like their practices with belay testing were unsafe after witnessing a staff member give a single day belay certification to a child who didn’t properly know how to belay, and who was being taught to belay while being tested. The climbing was fun, and I felt safe personally since my partner and I have been climbing for years. Their work out area was nice as well. Just felt uncomfortable with their policies regarding belay certs.
Top rope, weights, cardio, yoga, slackline, and a small bouldering area. This place has it all!
Much more convenient location than Planet Granite Presidio, and a reasonable number of tall routes. Very friendly, and not too crowded during the daytime.
Great although it can be overwhelmingly packed at times. Lots of top roping and a good amount of bouldering too
The gym has great class options and top roping, but coming here during peak hours is the most claustrophobic gym experience I've ever had. The tiny bouldering section is not fun. Neither is free weights area. Total zoo.
This is a really fun place to do top-rope, bouldering, or just work out. It’s all indoors with plenty of challenging courses.
They really need to at least try to take care of the bouldering area. Routes are redone extremely infrequently, and most of the days they have kids classes that knock out swaths of the walls. Please reset the routes more often and have your staff member enforce climbing etiquettes in your classes.
I think they can benefit from having larger, more capable weight training equipment and area. Those machines are always in use, they're too close to each other which causes crowding and an unpleasant training experience. The climbing routes are great though.
I've never been much of a gym person but I was interested in trying bouldering for the first time. It was a relaxed atmosphere with little to no chit chat. There was plenty of space. Everything was clean. Some people were even tucked out of the way working on laptops which gave it more of a hangout spot vibe.
Went here just twice while in town and had a great experience. For a relatively small space, they have an incredible amount of routes, equipment, weights, machines, hangboard area, cycle room, yoga studio, and on and on.
Staff was all super friendly and helpful. I love that you can borrow an ATC for free while you’re there. The belay test was quick - though I had to take it each day I came in, even though only 2 days apart.
The top rope routes were tightly packed on the walls but didn’t have a ton of traversing, so it felt like almost every space could be used simultaneously.
I was very impressed by the number of routes, the variation in wall shape/overhang, and use of space.
Only spent a short time in the bouldering area as it was quite small and packed. Good for a warmup or if you come in off hours, but a little difficult not to be on top of other guests during peak hours.
Bathrooms were clean and inclusive. Many cubbies and lockers for storing your belongings. People were generally very friendly and stayed out of each other’s way.
I’d definitely return if in the area again!
Sizable gym — better for rock climbing than bouldering (Dogpatch Boulders better). Enough gym equipment though every machine might be taken during peak hours. Sauna a plus!
Great top roping and a smaller bouldering area on the second floor. Check out the stretching area on top of the yoga room! Love that they open at 6am on weekdays
I would give them five stars if they had more 5.9' s possibilties. It is all geared for people that can do harder climbs
So happy with my customer service experience at this gym—especially Patrick for being nice over the phone in his explanations:)
Great climbing gym. I appreciate the inclusive signs on the bathrooms (there is no separate all-gender bathroom but both of their bathrooms are accessible to be used by whoever wishes to use them). The staff is great, the variety of top-rope routes is good, there's always a few routes I am really enjoying at my level.
I've had a little pull to do rock climbing for years, so I finally checked out these guys, and they gave me everything I needed. I knew nothing BAM I was in a beginner's class. After the class, I wanted to keep learning how not to die on one of the inevitable cliffhangers of life BAM they helped me partner up and practice on the walls for free. I wanted to do a little more exercise before I left BAM they had a gym winking at me from the sidelines. I wanted some post-rock entertainment and BAM there was a parade of costumed people dancing past in the street with portable music (well I guess Halloween had something to do with it).
