Please just turn off the sign when you are unable to provide gas. Especially if it's 1: 30 in the morning, in the cold rain. No one wants to buy a soda; they need gas! And some lame handwritten sign on the window that you are "temporarily out of gas" is no consolation for your unpreparedness.
