They’re the absolute best. Very kind, caring and knowledgeable — and actually sit you down to explain things. Plus their app has 24-7 customer service when you’re in an emergency. We’ve used it several times.

I've been having modern animal membership for 2years. And i can't complain anything.this membership reassures me so much. After having bad experiences from western animal and beverly and virgil (they are super dishonest i have wrote reviews for them if you want to know what happened to me, you can go read them.on the other hand Modern animal is just there for animals.i can go inside with my dog and see how they treat my dog and what's going on. That's why I recommend modern animal to all my neighbors. I wish all animal hospitals in the world do like modern animal.for all the pets and their owners peace.

Modern Animal was good approximately four years ago when we first joined with our puppy, Mandy, but unfortunately, the "good" rapidly deteriorated over the next few years to the point of no return.

When we first joined, we were charged $99 for the yearly fee. That was fine. Last September's renewal was $129.two months later, we received an email stating the renewal is now $200. We were getting fed-up with this. Now that we have two dogs, we are paying $200/year per dog.

The service no longer exists. There is no such thing as "urgent care" as other consumers have stated per their reviews. We too have experienced what Modern Animal calls "urgent care". The other day, we attempted to chat with MA via app. Our dog was coughing-up white stuff and not eating. No one replied to our chat for nearly five hours. Ridiculous.

Today, the dog's cough and mucas seemed to be getting worse. We did another chat for urgent care. The MA associate informed us they have nothing available all weekend. You cannot call it "urgent care" and state immediate or next day availability, yet fail to provide said promise. That is not urgent care.

This review has been in the making for the last six months following many horrible experiences with MA. Last April, we scheduled the vaccination and neutering for our new puppy. MA quoted us $1300 for the neutering alone. We received two quotes for the neutering totaling $1300. We confronted MA informing them $1300 was unacceptable and the average costs for neutering was $700. They could not care less and blew it off. We could tell they were'nt giving it a thought. Finally, after getting very hostile with MA, someone informed us they accidently sent two quotes and that the total cost should be approximatley $650-$800. Why couldn't they figure that out when confronted? ! We began losing all trust in MA at this point.

Time came in May to neuter the puppy. We dropped him off at 7: 00 am. We checked the app three hours later only to be informed they cannot proceed due to his platelet count. Why in the hell did they not call? ! Worst yet, they insisted we pay an additional $350 for blood work to be sent somewhere that has the equipment to read it! Are you kidding? ! So you're a vet that does not have the equipment to read a blood count?

We paid the $350 and within a week, the results documented the platelet being normal. We already knew that. MA was stating their equipment tends to read the platelet low when the platelets are clumped. Just another way for them to take money.

When our older puppy had flees/itches last month, we did the chat with MA. They prescribed a flee preventive medicine. We did not need a preventive, she already had flees! Even worse, the prescription wasn't available for pickup for another week! We would have been better off immediately going to a pet store and purchasing Frontline. To make matters worse, when we finally retreived the medicine a week later, we picked up the bottle of two pills only to find one pill in the bottle! We immediately returned and informed them we were only giving one pill when the prescription is for two and we paid for two! We lost more trust in Modern Animal following this incident.

Modern Animal was a good idea years ago, but it is definitely not a good place to take your puppies any longer.

We sent a demand email to MA this morning insisting they immediatley remove all automatic payments/cards from our account. Thankfully, we did it today because our older dog's membership would have renewed within the next week or two. Our younger pup's membership expires in March. We are not renewing nor are we using MA in the meantime. We are immediately going elsewhere. Good riddance.

We were members here for 3 years and just had countless disappointing experiences until we finally felt like we simply did not trust the medical judgments of the vets here. First of all, we never saw the same vet twice. Major revolving door for the staff. Second, the vets seemed more concerned with pushing expensive treatments than providing strong medical opinions, taking advantage of people’s love for their pets to push unnecessary procedures. The final straw for us was when they said our dog would need a dental cleaning under full anesthesia potentially with multiple extractions, and quoted a price of $1600-$2500. We went for a second opinion to Green Dog Dental and they performed a very thorough dental cleaning (under “twilight anesthesia”) for $300 and insisted no extractions were necessary. Judge for yourself.

Over the past 3 years at Modern Animal with my 3 pets not only has the clinic assumed that I am not able to make informed and intelligent pet parent decisions on my own and that that I will follow their recommendations blindly, but also, that I am able to seek external pet care and medications on my own, without their involvement. They have denied my geriatric dog much needed & immediate care needs, including referring me to an equivalent provider, going against their own contract. Modern Animal has also refused to provide in writing the justification for no longer agreeing to care for my beloved pet.

Additionally, while utilizing Modern Animal as my pets’ sole veterinary care clinic, many experienced veterinarians that treated my pets have left the practice in droves. This is quite disconcerting and it makes you wonder why Modern Animal even charges an annual “membership fee? ”

Treatment-wise, the veterinarians DO NOT read your pets’ medical history and even contradict another veterinarian’s medical opinions or advice from a previous visit that may have even occurred the past week. The vet techs that do the intakes, take live notes when you’re seeing the veterinarians, and provide your pets’ care 90% of the time are usually the best part of the visits.

Modern Animal’s policies and procedures lead their vets to suggest diagnostic treatments for your pets to prevent them from being sued. This comes at a cost to each pet parent, where extortion is the norm. Each customer can expect to pay TRIPLE the cost of what one would pay at any other veterinary clinic, pharmacy, blood testing or any other service they offer. My warning to every customer is to please make sure that each veterinarian and online service provider be questioned about how any specific treatment suggestion will benefit and truly provide value to your pets’ lives. Not all diagnostic tests or treatments are needed and Modern Animal works in collusion with other specialty care veterinarians’ offices in the wider LA metro area. Make sure that the diagnostic testing will actually extend the life of your pet; or is it really to bring in more money into Modern Animals’s bottom-line? Watch out for everything they suggest to add on to the cost of every visit.

Their 24/7 online coverage may appear nice at first, but my experience is that all of the content of my online chat conversations with the vet techs never made it to the clinic, even when any pet parent has communicated major health issues or concerns about your animals to the online vet techs. As consumers, especially at a pet HMO should expect that when we have critical care issues and have an appointment in the near future all medical questions that were asked virtually, would be part of the vet’s chart when your pet is seen. Yet after 3-years, it is obvious that any communication a pet owner has with the only vet techs or veterinarians never makes it into your pets’ charts. The option for this false sense of security to care for your pet with an o lien service falls well short of a well run clinic. Their contract with the member even states that until a pet is seen in the clinic no communications with their online service is truly pet care and should always be evaluated by a licensed professional. Yet again, one should feel that the online services are just an extension of their internal services, this is patently false and should not be considered true pet care in any manner, even if you have an appointment a few hours to a few days away.

Watch out when going to Modern Animal, they appear nicer, cost effective and professionally managed, they are a scam and run by poor internal management teams. Never doubting the quality of the veterinary care, I do doubt that the consumer really gets what they are promised without doing the required extra legwork. Please do not trust that they always have you or your pets’ wellness on their minds, their unqualified management and internal practices are truly a concern for any pet’s health.

Here’s the thing, Modern Animal is great when things are fine. But consistently, when ever there is anything serious or potentially serious they are utterly useless. They tout same day emergency appointments yet I’m almost never able to get one unless I’m willing to drive over an hour away. Then when they can fit you in they run a bunch of tests only to tell you to take your pet to the pet hospital.

If you need a good place for checkups, they’re fine. Friendly staff. You have to book weeks in advance, so be prepared. But have alternative plans if you have anything remotely urgent.

An invaluable resource for pet owners who want the best care for their animals without breaking the bank. I love that I can message, call, or video chat their care team 24/7 and get connected to someone immediately. I never have to think twice about getting care or pursuing treatment because it is always either free or very reasonable. My small dog recently swallowed a large piece of plastic and the Modern Animal team went above and beyond to help us. He needed professional induced vomiting within the hour to prevent an obstruction which would’ve led to surgery. They calmed me down on the phone while I was hysterically crying, talked me through next steps, and sent me a list of 10 of the best ER vets in the area to induce vomiting. When all of those vets said they had 4-6 hour wait lists and that the cost would be upwards of $1,000, the Modern Animal support team went a step further. Even though all the clinics were fully booked, they went out of their way to clear a spot and prep a room so my dog could come in for immediate treatment. When we arrived, they evaluated him and the vet walked me through the whole process and what the costs would be. I had to approve the estimate in the app beforehand - no surprise charges here. When he threw up, the vet came out to show a photo of the plastic and said he’s really glad we made it in time. If I had waited in line at a normal ER for just a few hours more, the plastic could have passed to his intestines, causing internal injuries or an obstruction. Modern Animal saved me hours of stress, thousands of dollars, and most importantly my dog’s life. Thank you Modern Animal. You have my business for life.

Modern animal has been such a good place for us. Staff is wonderful, super loving and compassionate. I’ve been taking my cat Mary since their very first location opened. In December of 2022, Mary was diagnosed with mammary cancer and Dr. De silva performed a bilateral mastectomy. After surgery, the staff was available for all of my questions and would reach out regularly just to ask how Mary was doing. Words cannot express my gratitude for the care, the recommendations they gave and the sincere follow ups to make sure that Mary was recovering. Thank you for all you do modern animal - we love ya'll!

This was our first time taking our dog, Ruby to Modern Animal. Our long time Vet has started working for them so this was our initial visit to them.and let me say that I'm very impressed. The facilities are beautiful & clean. The staff is incredibly friendly & kind. They even offer water, coffee while you wait for your pet.
I'm giving them 5 stars based on this first visit. Ruby just had a basic check up and her nails, etc done. The real test is when we have to deal with something a bit heavier. If my feelings change about Modern Animal then I'll lower my rating. But at this point it's so far, so good.

Update May 31,2023: Tool our dog to Modern Animal for nail clipping, ear cleaning, etc and everything went perfectly and we were in and out of there quickly. So far Modern Animal works for us.

I really wanted to like Modern Animal, but choosing them ended up being the worst mistake I’ve ever made. I was told that my senior dog needed an anesthetic dental procedure (the second time in 6 months). After doing his bloodwork, I noticed some of his kidney levels were mildly elevated. I asked them SEVERAL times if this was a concern and they told me they had “no concerns for him as they pertain to general anesthesia or the
upcoming procedure” and that we could just retest his kidney values again after the procedure. A few days after the procedure, he became very ill so we retested his blood and his kidney levels had sky-rocketed requiring him to be hospitalized. The anesthesia from the procedure had caused him to have an acute kidney injury. After going through his medical records that were sent to the hospital, I noticed on the date that I had specifically asked about his elevated kidney values, they had written on a separate document (that wasn’t ever given to me) that he had Tentative Stage 2 Kidney Disease. There are only 4 stages of kidney disease so this should’ve been extremely concerning. They completely withheld this information from me, even after I asked repeatedly. I would never have agreed to put my senior dog under anesthesia had they had told me this, even if they didn’t see any concern I wouldn’t have taken the chance. Not only was it a terrible call to put a senior dog under anesthesia knowing he had possible tentative kidney disease, but it was completely negligent to not inform his owner about his potential condition. I can’t blame them for what happened during the anesthesia, that is always a risk unfortunately, but withholding crucial information about my dog’s tentative kidney disease robbed me of the right to make a properly informed decision. I had never put him under anesthesia prior to coming to Modern Animal. I thought I could trust them to give him the best care and wanted to do everything to keep him healthy, but I was so wrong. Unfortunately, my baby passed away because of this AVOIDABLE injury. I tried absolutely everything I could to help him but his injury was too severe. I spoke to Modern Animal about this and they only offered me an apology once, said they would escalate this issue so that it never happens again, then never checked in on him again. I don’t have the words to express how heartbroken I am but I am writing this review in hopes that it helps someone so they don’t end up losing their baby like I did.

My experience with Modern Animal clinics isn’t always great at every location I’ve been to, but the West Hollywood Modern Animal always goes above and beyond to make sure my puppy and me are both happy. Thank you so much!

So lucky to be a member here! This is the vet of the future. The app is outstanding. It is so nice to be able to chat with a vet, send pictures and get such a swift response. Refilling prescriptions and booking appointments is a breeze. I hope modern animal expands to other states. They have the blueprint that all pets and pet owners deserve.

My dog is fear aggressive towards strangers touching him so we have to be very careful with humans he interacts with to ensure all interactions are positive and does not put him in an emotionally stressed state. We had to do a lot of conditioning for him to be somewhat handled by the vet staff.

As you can imagine going to the vet is a hard task for a dog like ours. The doctors and vet techs at modern vet (west Hollywood) are seriously impressive. Not only did they respect my dog's boundaries but they gave recommendations that helped my dog be able to get held down for a shot without stressing him out. We're REALLY thankful for this experience and all the staff!

Additionally, we've used the virtual services which we received a very quick response to our concern.

I highly recommend modern animal, I am so pleasantly surprised at their services for the price!

I had a great experience today at modern animal on Beverly Blvd. The office is nice and clean and the glass partitions give it a nice feel. The staff were professional and caring and did not push any treatment. I think my puppy felt as comfortable as he could getting a number of shots.scheduling and payment were super easy. I highly recommend this office.

By far the best vet experience I’ve ever had! You just download the app, pay the membership which is only $129 per year with no exam fees after that, and you’re done! The convenience of being able to talk to a vet tech via the app made my life so much easier. I wound up having to take my dog in because she needed to be seen and the staff were phenomenal! I’ve taken my dog to multiple vets for the same issue and spend approx $1,000 on average. I only spent $393 for the same treatment at Modern Animal. My dog was so well taken care of and the way the techs and doctor spoke about her made it clear they love the animals they care for. I can’t say enough good things about Modern Animal!

Update (12.21'22) : I have been meaning to update my review for this, I just got stuck with working on my thesis a bit to much, but it takes a lot for a business to admit when they could have done better, and when businesses do that, it shows empathy and sincereness in their mission and wanting to improve the customer experience.

After speaking with Skye about the interaction I had with a vet/tech there I felt reassured and heard that Modern Animal (MA) is striving to offer and do the best, which I genuinely appreciate. I understand being a new business is a bit chaotic figuring everything, but I firmly believe MA is headed in the right direction, although I will not continue the care for Miko at Modern Animal, we will continue the care with our other current and future pets.

Thank you MA for the experience.

Update (8.16'22) : Overall the experience with Modern Animal has been amazing except a recent interaction with one of the vets, we scheduled Miko to get spayed, went in for the preliminary bloodwork and all was fine, and then proceeded to the surgery a few weeks later.

I approved the estimates, and when I went to pick her up the vet came out with an update and a container for a fecal sample, and I had thanked her as I did not get one last time, she first had said that was impossible because she was the one I had the appointment with and she must have given me one, then when it came to the bill, the bill was astronomically out of the estimate range and she tried arguing with me that I was only looking at the “lower end” of the range, I showed her the estimate and then she had said it’s because of my cats weight!?

I was frustrated at this point, and then she finally recognized the issue (which was a conversion issue in their measurements) and she never apologized for the mistake, after this experience it really shattered the previous amazing interactions with Modern Animal.

Original: What an amazing vetrinarian! After moving down from San Francisco, this place helped make our little guy at home! He was completely comfortable and the fact that everything can be done through their app was so convenient and nice!

Thank you Modern Animal for having us within your family

The vets and staff are great, but it’s impossible to get an appointment, they have no office phone number, and very often forget to reply to chats within their app.
