Moffett Plumbing & Air, Orange CA

We had our home renovated last year and have smelled sewer gas in the master bath ever since. Our prime and his plumber, who is based in Hermosa Beach, gave all kinds of excuses as to why the smell persisted (biofilm, they claimed) and eventually refused to return for further diagnosis. I learned that Moffett provides sewer gas smell detection using a fog test (colloquially known as a "smoke test"). I was initially skeptical but after a very informative 15-min phone call with Ray, Moffett's service manager, I was convinced that it may be the best course of action after 10+ months of fruitless Green Gobbler sticks and enzymatic cleaners in p-traps.

Brandon and Justin showed up on time yesterday. They were extremely polite, conscientious and professional. After 15 min to set up for testing using a cleanout in my garage, fog appeared within 5 minutes behind not just the master bath toilet, but the adjacent kids' bathroom toilet as well.

I contacted the prime and sent him videos of the fog results. Brandon and Justin waited patiently for 30 min or so while we wait to learn if the prime's plumber would someone out to make the repairs so they could rerun the test to confirm success. When the plumber said he couldn't take care of it until the following week, the Moffett team proceeded with removing both toilets for evaluation.

As it turns out, the previous plumber took a short cut and did not replace the toilet flanges in both bathrooms, even though the floor elevation was increased. This resulted in a greater than code-allowed elevation differential, meaning that the wax rings around both drains were unable to properly seal.

Moffett explained that some plumbers would address this problem by placing two stacked wax rings to make up the elevation difference but code does not allow that. I agreed to replace the flanges (the code solution). Shortly thereafter, Ray, the service manager, showed up to personally assist with the work. Ray, too, is a consummate professional. While they proceeded with the work, I casually overheard Ray mentoring the two more junior plumbers with guidance on how to perform the work properly. It's apparent Moffett takes training, and its people, seriously.

When the work was complete, the team of three performed another fog test to confirm the work was successful (it was!).

Moffett will be my preferred plumber from now on.

Nate and Vince had come out on Christmas Eve last year to install a washer as well as install new bathroom sink faucets. We have never had an issue with Nate, Vince or Brandon. To us they are like family when they come out to do work for us. We are always greatful and appreciate your kind, can-do attitude. Thanks again!

I had to call moffett to check on a leak after they recently worked on some pipes. Brian came out within a day and determined it was from another source. He and his team are reliable and professional!

We LOVE Vince! He solved a sewer smell issue which had been haunting us for years! We had multiple plumbers, handymen, general contractors and even an HVAC technician come out and try to figure out the cause of the horrible rotten egg smell and that would come and go in our home. We didn’t know what to do, but Vince from Moffett Plumbing performed a fog/smoke test and was able to locate a broken sewer vent hidden away in our attic and was able to fix the issue the same day. It’s been months now and the smell is history and we can now live in home peacefully and happily ever after!

Vince of Moffett Plumbing was terrific, very professional and knowledgeable. He was able to track down a cracked vent pipe and faulty toilet flange by using a smoke system. A tricky problem solved. I have never had a service tech show up with their own carpeted mats, shoe covers and tools making sure there was no mess. Brian was early and found the issues quickly. I highly recommend these folks!

I had a great experience with Moffett plumbing. Brandon, my plumber, was on time, polite and got the job done well. We just moved into a new (used) home and the shower drain was really clogged with A Lot of hair! The drain was filling up within seconds. He had to use a very deep snake and kept at it until everything ran clear. He was conscientious about keeping my home clean as he wore booties and picked up after himself. Overall a great experience.

Hi our service tech Vince was professional and friendly. He was very knowledgeable and ensured we understood what he needed to do before he started the work. Vince was very respectful and worked with my grandma to make sure she felt comfortable and informed.

Vince & Alberto with Moffett Plumbing were AWESOME! I can’t say enough great things about the work that they’ve done. They’re friendly, polite, professional and explained everything to me so that I could understand. They also took the time when my husband came home mid-job to explain things to him as well. We had a strong smell from inside the kitchen cabinets for the last few years on and off and worse when warm outside. Vincent was very professional and knowledgeable. He explained our problems clearly, provided several solutions, and performed the job. His co-worker, Justin, worked well with Vincent, they made an excellent team. We will call on Vincent and Moffett Plumbing again, and would recommend them to others.

I called to request service and got an appointment the next day. Vince was on time and got right to work. He clearly explained the problem and gave me several options. He even drew pictures of a toilet and sink to illustrate! When he recommended we replace the toilet he
acknowledged the extra cost and I didn’t feel like he was just tying to upsell me.

Smoke test performed on a problem no one could solve for almost 2 years. Found the problem within minutes. Knew exactly how to fix it. Spelled out the work and price up front. Nothing hidden. Technician (Vince) was one of the nicest and most professional vendors I’ve ever worked with. I’m sleeping well tonight knowing that my sewer smell” issue is finally gone. Would recommend this company and Vince 100% to anyone. Get the smoke test!

Scott was very professional and pleasant. He patiently explained what my water heater problem could be, what options for repair were and what options for replacement were. My usually grouchy 17 year old cat even liked him!

Scott of Tom Moffett Plumbing came back to check out a leak that I thought may be related to the recently installed new water heater. Since there wasn’t any related problem with the new water heater, he spent time around our 1/2 acre and 3500 SF home to find the leak source. Amazingly, Scott found the leak source at our rear property bathroom toilet. The service & professionalism by Scott (Detective Plumber) is second to none. The excellent service at Tom Moffett Plumbing is worth the time to check out. Scott is my “go to” plumber. I have regained my faith in “Customer Service. “

Vince was great and did excellent work to get the job done (5 stars). When we placed the call on Saturday, we were not given accurate details as to the cost and service call charge so 0 stars for the person who took our call on the weekend. Just give me the info I ask for so I can make an informed decision instead of leaving Vince in a position to defend the price structure and policy. You did good Vince, the office.not so good.

Tom Moffett’s Plumbing Technicians are courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. They diagnose the issues quickly and thoroughly. Their work is excellent and It’s done right the first time (no call backs for redo’s.)

Vinnie and David from Tom Moffett Plumbing and Air replaced a Waste pipe from upstairs bathroom to ground. They had to open up a hole in the stucco the length of the pipe. They were very professional and considerate. They were efficient and thoughtful. Put down mats at entrance and at each work site. They kept me informed about what they were doing. They tested the pipe when they were done to ensure there were no leaks. They cleaned up each work site and you would never know they were they. They even helped me bring in trash cans as they were leaving. I would highly recommend M Tom Moffett Plumbing and Air.
