Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore reviews
15Great source of local information. Employee was very helpful she pulled up the web page listing current fall color conditions so I could decide where to go next. They have free 24-hour Wi-Fi. Password is on the door if they are closed.
I bought some stickers, a bandana, and got some free stickers and bought a pretty art card and envelope. If I had more money I'd also buy some books and the original art on canvas
Been a longtime donator to this cause. So thought I would visit the store. Was taken back by the attitude of the staff about tourist visiting the area (basically keep the flow of people low and only to those who are now here). Some real elitist BS.
Second, I asked about the stuffed Owl and Red-tailed Hawk on the shelf - where did they get them. Really don't this stuffed wildlife is the right message for their cause - specifically raptors who are protected.
Very educational and great products in reference to Mono Lake and the surrounding Mono Lake Basin and the local history of the people.
Somehow I didn't take a single picture in here. This is a great stop, if you are just passing through, stop here! Restrooms are great. They offer free wifi. You can get interesting info on Mo-No lake (You totally look at it the whole way here!) and even help support it. Entrance, parking, restroom, and counter are all accessible. Plenty of parking, located right on the 395. Also, they have some awesome souvenirs! Looking for a great gift, you can find something here.
Oh my goodness - sooo many books! I wanted all of them. I will come back to get more next time I visit.
A great gift and book store, with good art on display and excellent traveler information about Mono Lake and the surrounding area
Easy to find, good wifi and helpful staff. I had booked their free tufa tour online, but did not receive confirmation. They got me sorted quickly, and explained they had technical issues and their technical person was on vacation that week.
The tour itself was hosted by an intern who was very knowledgeable and kind. I learned a lot about the unique ecology of Mono Lake, their efforts on preserving it and educating young kids.
I went in here to find out more about the railroad leading up to Bodie and the Mono Craters but the young lady did not want to come in without a mask. I am so tired of the mask thing so I went out side to look at their free stuff. She came out and offered me a mask. I was about to say "no" but she was so nice, I just put it on and came in. I'm glad I did. We had a couple of real long talks about the local geology and that railroad. We also went into a local bird guide to help me ID a bird I photographed. Nice, nice stop.
Great store, nature-related jewelry and gift items, stationary, art, great selection of books, and a clean, water conserving bathroom with a composting toilet. Plus knowledgeable local info.
That's the place where you can find information about the lake, area, and more. Nice people to talk too. Books, maps, brochures and souvenirs are available.
Small but impressive gift shop and information center. They also have a great selection of books, covering mostly nature, discoveries, and exploration. John Muir, Jack London, and many more can be found here. When you come along the way, stop here to get some food for your brain. Keep up the great work!
Great idea, hard working staff, but can’t seem to do the one thing they are there to do- keep water in the lake and out of Angelino’s toilets.
Great little gift shop, bookstore and information center. Gallery exhibit, movie and history of lake. Lots of hand crafted items and huge selection of books. Nice people. Tours at tufa site on weekends. Only place open in town in winter that is open for gifts. Nice little stop!
Joselyn was so helpful and informative. Makes me want to come back and give her a hug. Will be coming back to visit her whenever I'm in town again.
