Monterey's Fish House

I have not been disappointed. I have been to the fish house 6 times in the past 2 1/2 years and every meal has been delicious. My last dish the pasta seemed like it was missing something, but hey it's not called "The Pasta House". Keep it up folks, I will have at least one meal at The Fish House every time I am in Monterey.

Fabulous, Fab you must. Go eat here, especially if you're visiting for the first time, as I was. It was packed, noisy, making an electric ambiance! The food was terrific, I posted pics of my meal. I got the special: crab cakes and scallops. I'm originally from MD and now live in CA, and these crab cakes were the first I've enjoyed in CA, more than my MD crab cakes, nice and crispy, the way I like it. The serving size was sufficient for a take-home meal, so I could enjoy dessert: carrot cake! Yum

Just ok food, over priced for what it is. Bread was not warm. Had grilled Oysters and calamari for appetizer, very average. Fish House Pasta was decent but nothing special. Prawn Pasta was pretty good. Had 2 of the pasta specials for $35 each and they were very forgettable.

The food was terrible. The steak was priced as 30 dollar steaks, when they were just cheap cuts. Was supposed to be oak grilled but was soggy. This oak plank flavoring was disgusting. The clam chowder was ok, but just ok. Fried calamari was just mediocre as well. The crembrule was not crembrule at all. It was flan with brule on top. Baby octopus was tough. And the "mud pie" was coffee flavored. Calamari steak was the best food here, but even that was frozen. The customer service was great though. 7 refills on my drink and polite crew, good staff, REALLY REALLY BAD FOOD.

Fast and friendly service. Absolutely delicious food and good size pour on the wine. Creme brulee was just okay though

Overcooked fish and seafood. I got the cioppino and my husband got the baby octopus. It all just tasted like rubber. Very disappointing, especially because my friend gave such high recommendations of the place. Very cute building, great atmosphere and good servers; just terrible food. Will not be going back.

I don't understand why so many people recommended this place when we asked about local seafood. Food blah, environment super loud, dishwashers clanging dishes together in piercing fashion. Don't sit anywhere near the open dishwashing area if you can help it. In fact, just go to Passion Fish in PG instead. Much higher quality.

WOW! Seafood was great and the prices were reasonable. The wait times may be long but there is a reason. The food is excellent. So stop complaining.

I was really looking forward to eating at this place even before I got to Monterey, as all my research indicated this is the best seafood restaurant in the area. However, I was beyond being disappointed. The cioppino I ordered was one of the worst I ever had over the years. There was at least one bad mussel and some bad fish pieces as well. The soup had a bad smell and taste, as if dead shellfish or old fish meat were used. The saving grace was that everything was so overcooked that all bacteria were probably destroyed, so at least I would not get food poisoning from this. Guess this puts an end to my ever eating cioppino again, in any restaurant.

We got there at 5: 30, twenty minutes later they were packed. Food tasted fresh and the flavor was good. Service was fantastic. Nice casual family place.

Great service, delicious food, and a menu with something for everyone. Aaron was a terrific server! Standouts from our visit we're the spinach salad, the garlic bread, and the ravioli. Why not 5 stars? The blackened snapper was dry and the oak-grilled ahi need another minute per side to get some char, and the steamed artichoke was underwhelming beneath too much mayonnaise. Oysters ran out before we got to order at 7pm. So why 4 stars? The stuff that was good was amazing, the service was excellent, and they were very kid friendly, which is a big one for me.

Some of the best service we've ever experienced and the food was just as nice as said service. I'm very glad to have stopped in for dinner during our stay.

Recently had our 3rd visit to the Fish House, awesome food as before. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a truly fabulous meal! The seafood is excellent, fish tastes like it was just caught when we ordered it. The crab ravioli is my fav! Make a reservation and get there early, it's always packed, it's that good! Fun fact: Food Network's Guy Fieiri has been here!

Go at lunch during slower business hrs or expect to wait in line. We hit it before the crowd. Extensive menu with huge portions, welcoming fun servers. Patio/ tent dining was a good choice. We will be traveling to Monterey monthly for several months. Will be back each time to explore the yummy menu!

Wow you just shut the door in your customers face… It may be good, but We will never eat hear.

Our experience was excellent. The service was excellent. Our entrees tickled our taste buds beyond any expectations. One entrée was blackened salmon that was excellent. The other, an artichoke sea food special that was as I said, beyond any expectation Our wine glasses were kept full. A rarity today. Sadly we live in a flyover state too far away to get back here. We thought it was a great place. Admittedly your experience may be different. But you might want give it a try if you're in the area.

A gem at an awkward location. Busy restaurant. Reservations recommended. Extra outdoor sitting. Super fast and knowledgeable staff. Yummy food.

Great place for sea food lover! The pasta is a bit different from traditional one, but still delicious with soup. I got much more shrimp in my pasta then I can image! Good price for such a large portion!

Very tasty and fresh seafood! Went on a business trip and was recommended by a local. We had the calamari appetizer which was delicious and the swordfish which also was just as tasty. Prices are reasonable for the quality and taste. Highly recommend you going here when in or around Monterey.
