Mount Lowe Campground reviews
5 No water right now but that could change after the first rain / snow. Great secluded hike in camp along Mount Lowe Rd. You'll see very few people. I've stayed here many times & have been alone the majority of the time.
There are picnic tables, a new outhouse & fire pits but please pack out your trash & only make a fire when it's safe.
Nice camp site has some shaded area, benches and picnic tables. A nice bathroom by most standards. Some nice flat areas. Can get hot if your not in the shade.as you descend into the camp site there is a small area on the right that looks like a dry Creek but has a small amount of water flowing.
A Backcountry campground ~7 mi.up the Mt. Lowe road from The Cobb estate. Accessible by foot or bicycle. Lots of natural gravel on the ground, has old picnic benches, trees for shade, and next to a small seasonal stream bed.
It was quite hike to reach this place, but when I got there it was overrun by teenage boys (who had driven in vans) who were running about, throwing things at each other and somewhat spoiling the solitude.
I didn't use the bathrooms, but they existed.
You know, you might make the (strenuous-ish) hike all the way up here and find yourself in the middle of a gaggle of teenagers who'd arrived in a van. That's a good thing. They didn't enjoy the benefit of exercise, accomplishment and feeling of self-sufficiency you're feeling at the moment, but maybe, just maybe, they will take in the wonder of it enough to realize that, next time, they want to do it the way you just did. If someone didn't haul them up here, there'd be no chance at all of that happening, but now some of them might do it. They'll care about nature, the planet and the things that prompted you to make the effort, and we'll have a few more allies in the effort to keep these wonders that we have. The world will be a better place. Celebrate.
