It is a historic observatory that even Einstein visited in 1931. It's amazing that you made something like this 100 years ago.

Highly recommend going to Mt. Wilson. And try their guided tours, which start at 11: 30 AM (on weekends?) to access more telescopes. The views from Mt. Wilson point are amazing.
The parking feed can be purchased at the Cafe. There are no gas/diesel/EV chargers up on the mountain, so better fill the tank/full charge before getting to the area.

Wish there were more bathrooms available. View is absolutely breathtaking.

Mt. Wilson Observatory is one of the most historically significant observatories in United States. It is the birthplace of modern astrophysics. The grounds are open for exploration and many of the historic telescopes are open for viewing, often with a knowledgeable docent on hand.

Of special note is the Snow Solar Observatory, the second oldest in the world and still in operation with mostly original equipment from 1914. The docent at this telescope is fantastically well informed and enjoys showing off this amazing piece of history.

The Observatory in general is lightly visited so there is no fear of not being able to get it. One note is that a Forest Service Adventue Pass is required for parking but may be purchased at the Cafe adjacent ot the parking lot.

Hidden gem of Southern California. Great views of the San Gabriel Valley all the way to Santa Monica and the Pacific Ocean. If the telescopes are open that day, even better. Bring a lunch and sit at the many lunch benches. Clean restrooms also. Bring a jacket, can get cold even on warm summer days. If you drive up, please be sure to pull over if you have more than one or two cars behind you. There are many turnouts for you to pull over and also stop and enjoy different views.
