Within just a month, Mr. Kim has done an excellent job transferring knowledge and discussing effective study habits with me. Some may be hesitant about meeting virtually with a tutor, but let me assure you that Mr. Kim is well versed in Skype and Zoom. Mr. Kim and I had great success meeting virtually and I know this prepared him for this post-pandemic time where everything is almost required to be virtual. Like always, Mr. Kim goes the extra mile to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible for every student.

I began working with Mr. Kim in 2007 – I was 16 and in my junior year at Foothill Technology High School taking basic math class. Because of my learning disability, I really struggled in math. He made math (my worst subject) the most fun math could possibly be. Mr. Kim is very funny, too, which definitely helps when you’re in the midst of a never ending, tragically long complicated algebra equation. I love going to him because I feel like it's math therapy for me. Mr. Kim helps me laugh through the math. I continued with Mr. Kim for both junior and senior year of High School. Without his help, I would not have passed math class, or received my diploma.

I started at SBCC after graduating and continued seeing Mr. Kim for my Junior College math requirements. Occasionally we would work until midnight prior to tests, midterms and final exams. He was truly invested in making sure I passed the class and would do whatever was necessary to assure I excelled. I would not have passed those two junior college math courses without his dedication to tutoring me.

I then transferred to the University of Alabama. While taking the absolute last required math course of my life – during my last semester of college, I found myself needing Mr. Kim one more time. Not only did I need to pass the course, but I wanted to pass with an A in order to keep my GPA up. Immediately, Mr. Kim went out of his way to set up “Skype” sessions multiple times a week. He met with me virtually any time, sometimes as early as 5: 30 a.m. California time. This was at a time before “Zoom” and “Facetime” were common used methods of meeting. I was his “first skype student. ”

After graduating with a 4.0 from the University of Alabama (thanks to Mr. Kim!), Mr. Kim attended my college graduation party. At this point I was 24 years old and had been tutored by Mr. Kim off and on for 8 years. I was so happy to introduce him to my family and close friends because at this point, everyone needed to meet the man behind the curtain.

After graduation, I considered going to law school. I again consulted with Mr. Kim for advice. As always, he was very instrumental in helping with my decision. We actually met a few times when I was studying for the LSAT. He went out of his way to learn about what the exam entailed. Mr. Kim arranged for me to come to his house for a proctored study time twice a week. We again met through Skype for a couple study sessions on my lunch break at work.

Now, I am a successful paralegal, married, and have a 7 month old son. I would call Mr. Kim and I great friends. It is so wonderful to have a pillar beside me. Mr. Kim will always be a part of my life. Maybe one day, he will be tutoring my son!

He has truly a sweet heart and it shows through his gentle style. I hope your child has the same experience I did.
