Nello's Place, Redding CA

Atmosphere total Italian restaurant, dark, candle lit, pretty nice. Could get cleaned up a bit, dated and cluttered. Waiter was nice, but not super attentive. I ordered eggplant parmesan, it was undercooked and the breading was chewy, not good. My brother got the scampi. He said it was ok, but it was weird to serve it with a side of penne with marinara. Definitely over priced for the quality. Wouldn’t recommend although I don’t think Redding is known for its food. So take that as you will. Really miss mom’s authentic Italian cooking about right now.

Returned to Nello’s this evening for the first time in c. 10 years. The food, service, and atmosphere were as good as I remembered. My son and I had the lasagne and the manicotti. Both were delicious and very nicely presented too.

The service was wonderful the amount of food you got was also wonderful and tasted great. The atmosphere was nice.

Old school Italian done the right way. Delicious food and great service from tuxedo bested wait staff.

Anniversary date with my lovely wife and the food and service was fantastic. They give the ladies a rose at the end of the meal. They do get busy on weekends. Lots of fantastic menu items. Try something new.

This place looks like it hasn't been changed since the 60's. Arrived for a walk-in for 2. Host was short and rude, sat us without a bar menu. Server checked his cell phone while he was preparing our salad, table-side. He also left their giant salad cart right in front of the table for a good 15 minutes, blocking either one of us from being able to comfortably leave our table for the restroom. Luckily, another server moved it, so I thanked him for what should have obviously been done immediately.

Ordered the prosciutto wrapped melon as an appetizer and got 4 giant, completely bland spears of melon with prosciutto just draped on top it. This place has full dining service sets at each table, with B&B plates, the while nine.but i didn't even get an appetizer plate to saw through my tree branches of melon!
I had to try and eat these things off of a tiny B&B plate, along with everything else we ordered before our entrée.

Every three bites of everything I ordered, their 15 year old busser would ask if we were done. No. I'm still chewing, dude. All in all, the service here is seriously lacking. Maybe it's because I walked in with casual attire that I was singled out, but that's no excuse.

Wouldn't recommend at all.

Ok this was such an amazing experience… Reminds me of being a kid and the places i used to go with my Familia… Nellos you blew me away from the antipasto salad to the house dinner salad with bay shrimp, then the Cannelloni followed up by the Salto In Bocca (Romana). Best meal i have had in years.

Very nice old School Italian Resteraunt complete with white tablecloths and wait staff in black and white.

I've been here two or three times before and the food is always been excellent I had the lobster with clams this time the lobster was way overcooked I can hardly chew it cut it. I've had this meal other times and it was delicious this time it was horrible! And a waste of $70 I was very disappointed! One other thing it's way too dark you can't even see the menu

If you want a five star Italian restaurant in the Redding area this is the place. I ordered the seafood spaghetti I could tell it was fresh and cooked correctly. The service and presentation of the food at this restaurant is outstanding probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant. The appetizers and dessert are also the best everything was excellent. If you're looking for a great Italian restaurant this is the place. I've eaten in the finest restaurants all over the world and nothing beats a good plate of spaghetti.

Good service, not rushed, a little too dark, my food was cold, but the rest of our party said theirs was hot and great.

Sub-average. Food was watery and flavorless.

Edit: My girlfriend watched to catch a late lunch here. I was on the fence at first, but now I'm glad I went, as they proved my last review wrong. She is a long time fan of the restaurant and after visiting recently, and receiving several takeout orders from them, I'm beginning to understand why.

Over all, the staff was awesome. The food was awesome. The restaurant was clean, our table was clean. Our waitress was extremely attentive and friendly, and she kept our drinks filled. All around, she was great. We didn't wait long for our orders to arrive despite it being relatively busy in the restaurant. I order a chicken fettuccine dish and my girlfriend ordered the rossini. The food itself was mouthwatering and savory. It was very rich and filling. I rarely clean my plate, but came close to it this time.

I do plan to visit the restaurant again, as I liked the general setting and vibe of the interior. I'm very glad that I gave it another chance.

We visited Nello's Place for a celebratory dinner, inviting a couple of friends. It has been many, many years since I had last dined here. We made an online reservation. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were immediately greeted and our reservation was confirmed. We were sat and we ordered drinks, while looking over the menu. There was several servers about to attend to the guests. The restaurant had a fine dining feel, but also casual. We ordered and shortly after, anti-pasta was delivered. Then salads and soup. Finally our meals. The food was well presented and of good portion size. We all enjoyed the taste of our food. The service, atmosphere and food were excellent. Prices are higher than some places, but the level of service and quality of the food, in my opinion, is worthy.

Great place to catch up with a friend I haven't seen in a long time. Shared a bottle of wine, had excellent recommendations from a fantastic server. The food was amazing, generous portions, and tasted great.

The best Italian food I've had in a long time! Romantic lighting taken to the point of a little too dark inside, but the food was delicious and the service attentive.

After eating here for many years, I had noticed a decline in the quality of food. The staff typically is always fantastic, but what you pay for; the quality of the food has gone down hill tremendously! I have attempted to give this restaurant the last 3 times to make it right in the last year, but I would NOT recommend this place to anyone anymore!

Nellos place is a beautiful hidden gem in the heart of Redding. Everything about this place is an experience. I haven’t had such amazing service like the one I had in this location in a long time! Servers give roses to the ladies upon leaving. Very kind touch! Pat was amazing and so kind.

Food was phenomenal as well! Great authentic Italian goodness.

My husband and I had the best date night here! The food was delicious. Amazing service. The owner Jim has put such love and care into the food and overall experience. We had the escargot, meatballs, lamb chops, veal Parmesan, and bananas foster. It was all so delicious. Can’t wait to go back.

We love this place. It's expensive but a great date night. Seems like they have a few new servers that are trying to get the hang of things, so don't go if you are in a hurry.
