Newport Beach Neurology Center: Acevedo Valerie DO reviews
15 I was utterly disappointed with my interactions with the person who answered the call to set up my appointment and the person at the front desk. When I called to set up my appointment, the dr's office usually ask you, what is your name, whats your purpose of visiting the Dr, or least, how are you doing. The first question this person asks me is, what insurance you have? 3 other questions were related to what type of insurance, who is your provider, nothing about why I was wanting to see the Dr.or even how is your day going, anything else.
Let's get past that.
When you go into a Dr's office, there may be a certain type of professional etiquette, understanding and empathy that's portrayed and expected. I walk in amidst COVID, the person behind the counter wore no mask. Looking at me the first thing he says is let me get your drivers license and insurance card and i'll shoot it. No greeting, no how is your day going, didn't even bother to ask my name. Then he hopped back on the phone. I have been to several dr's offices during this pandemic, every single one has at least a sanitizer bottle for patients. Nothing here. After feeling very disappointed at how non empathetic and highly business oriented this dr's office is, I asked to leave. While I was leaving, I hear the guy starting to talk smack about me with the younger person next to him. I hadn't even left yet! I can't speak for the Dr.obviously, but the whole experience made me feel like this is going to be more about billing my insurance and all that business stuff rather than actually wanting to help patients. For a while it literally felt like I have walked into an insurance office or a car delearship! I would HIGHLY NOT recommend this office!
Dr is taking care of my 91 yo mom who has dementia and always is caring and listens to us and my mom trusts her and so do I
Absolute first class service and care from both Dr. Acevedo and Steven.
Dr. Acevedo was the only specialist to order an MRI to see what the problem really was.
Dr. Acevedo's is an Excellent Doctor
She basically Saved My Life!
Her quick thinking is the reason why I'm still Breathing!
I will forever be in debt to her!
As soon as I came into her practice she was very attentive and new exactly what to do.
She also went outta her way to deal with my insurance company which didn't want to pay for medication I desperately needed & because Dr. Acevedo was diligent and Persistent my insurance company ended up agreeing to do so.
Thanks to Dr. Valerie Acevedo I get a second chance at Life!
Thank You Dr.
She immediately correctly diagnosed my rare, often misdiagnosed life theatening disorder (NPH) and sent me to a top rated neurosurgeon for treatment. Her care and advice with have been excellent.
PLEASE READ! ITS VERY IMPORTANT!
If I could give zero star, I would! Do NOT go to Dr. Acevedo. I went to her after being in the ER several times and suffering from severe migraines that caused left sided paralysis, severe, debilitating back pain, speech difficulties, vision disturbances such as floaters, blind spots, blurry and double, my gait was off and have to walk with a cane (I’m only 35) numbness, tingling, 2 seizures and the list goes on. She did order a MRI and bloodwork. We went back a week later to go over the results and it was like she couldn’t remember who I was or even seeing us. Or remembered that I’m a seasoned RN. She hardly looked at the results, didn’t explain anything, she was spacey like she was on something and told me to just go see a Rheumatologist, no need to follow up, that what my husband and I described wasn’t a seizure, no need to treat my migraines or look into them further and that I would benefit from seeing a psychologist too because it seems like it’s all in my head. I was shocked! I left there in tears and felt completely hopeless and crazy. But I pulled myself together and went to see a different Neurologist.
It was a completely different and welcoming experience! He suggested that I may have Intracranial Hypertension. The only way to test it unfortunately is when I get a migraine I have to rush to the ER and give them an order that my new neurologist wrote up to check for the intracranial hypertension with a lumbar puncture. We’ll sure enough, I had one this weekend and went to the ER, they preformed the test and the pressure was extremely high and it confirmed the Intracranial Hypertension diagnosis! If I went off of what Dr. Acevedo said, I would be suffering and would go blind, go into a coma or even death! DO NOT GO TO SEE HER PLEASE! She’s untrustworthy and doesn’t care about helping others.
Dr Acevedo is the 5th Neurologist I have seen since 1982, and I do consider her the very best and so is her assistant, Steven.
Friendly staff, doesn’t jump to unnecessary treatments, and is open to Western and Eastern medicines working together for the same goals. Definitely would recommend.
My orthopedic surgeon referred me to Dr Acevedo. He wanted me evaluated asap. Her staff got me scheduked promptly for the first appt. The second appt required some testing and because she was booked up for the week, she remained after her office hours because my surgeon requested that the test be completed quickly. The results of the test and a full report was made available to him the next day. I am surprised at the negative reviews and can only say I highly recommend her to anyone needing a neurologist!
I've been seeing Dr. Acevedo since July for my migraines. She has been very helpful in setting up a treatment plan and ensuring necessary changes are made as needed. Her office staff is equally helpful, we had issues with Apria bringing medical equipment and with the help of the staff we got thijngs resolved ASAP. All around this is a great office that I would highly recommend.
Reading the negative reviews on here disappoint me and definitely do not attest to who Dr. Acevedo is. I have been to too many doctors looking for answers, and more importantly, to find a doctor I can TRUST. She has been nothing but open and kind while assessing the issues and correcting them properly. She will be very serious on how to take medications and makes strict rules accordingly because she doesn't want people abusing medications (SHE CARES). To me, this is the perfect doctor. She is very smart and I trust her %100. Also to note, she has referred me to some of the best doctors in the country to help fix other issues I have and I've had nothing but accelerated progress. I owe so much to her and I'm very thankful.
Do not go here! Worst Doctor I have ever seen. The staff is so unorganized trying to withhold my records illegally, along with trying to scam my insurance. DO NOT GO HERE!
Instead of calling or writing to us informing us that my son needs to go in for an appointment they simply stop renewing his prescription. They refused to renew the prescription over the phone with the pharmacy. My son was completely out of medication. Suddenly stopping can have life threatening complications. This is, in my view, unprofessional behavior and not the type of person I want looking after my son. They couldn't telephone us or write to us asking us to make an appointment? Apparently, not. They stopped the meds he needed instead, until we made an appointment! Shame on them!
This was my first visit to Dr. Acevedo. She was patient, kind and caring. She spent an hour reviewing my symptoms and helping to alleviate them. We discussed having an MRI to rule out causes. We even talked about our love of pets and how her son is looking for another cat. I like animal people. This doctor is amazing!
My name is Christopher Pakdel, and in January 2009, I was diagnosed with Bipolar I by "doctor" Acevedo. After a year of being treated with antidepressants and amphetamines, I was miraculously diagnosed with a new illness that I never had before.
It now seems I was never Bipolar, but a product of a society that feeds kids drugs, then tells them that drugs are bad.
Thanks, Valerie!
